KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Toronto Blue Jays have turned their first triple play in 33 years.
The Kansas City Royals had runners on first and second in the third inning Friday night when Eric Hosmer lined out to first baseman Adam Lind, who stepped on the bag to double off Yuniesky Betancourt. Lind then fired to shortstop Yunel Escobar to retire Alex Gordon, who had strayed off second.
It was Toronto’s first triple play since Sept. 21, 1979, against the New York Yankees.
Al Cowens was the previous Royals batter to hit into a triple play on June 19, 1979, against Oakland.

Posted on April 22, 2012 at 10:43pmThe batter should be benched. The GM should be scolded. Why in the world would you let a guy swing on a hit and run who doesn’t know how to get a breaking curve out of the infield?

Posted on April 22, 2012 at 3:31pmI once turned a triple play. I caught a flyball at third base – that was one out, i tagged the runner from second base who was running to third base – that was the second out, then i threw the ball to first base before the runner going to second base could make it back to first, and that was the third out. I was in my first year of little league ( we were all about nine or ten years old ) at the time and it didn‘t occur to me or any of my teamates that the flyball being caught by me was the third out and we didn’t need to continue on but, what the hell, it was good practice ! : )

Posted on April 22, 2012 at 5:25pmThe only triple play I ever witnessed was in Little League. Shortstop catches the fly, tags the runner going to third and throws the runner out caught off first–unassisted triple play!

Posted on April 22, 2012 at 2:05pmWasn’t it just once that the Jays won the World Series? “Whoop, there it goes” seems to have been the phrase of the day. Anyway, I was drawn to this sight to see an even more rare occurrence — Boston fans booing a Democrap president. Where’s the posting?

Posted on April 22, 2012 at 12:44amBlaze,are the story cycles so slow that we have to go back 30 years to try and remember if they actually had a triple play? I didn’t even know the blue jays were a major baseball team.
