Jennifer Hudson Performs I Will Always Love You Tribute to Houston at Grammys

In 1994, Whitney Houston captivated the Grammy Awards with her song “I Will Always Love You.” It was stunning:

On Sunday, Jennifer Hudson delivered a tribute to Houston while singing the same song. It was an emotional rendition that showed Hudson on the verge of tears and at least one long pause:

Grammy host LL Cool J also opened the night with a prayer in honor of Houston:

It could be weeks before investigators know exactly why the pop diva died.

Coroner‘s officials say they will not release any information on an autopsy performed Sunday at the request of police detectives investigating the singer’s death. Houston was found in the bathtub of her room, but Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter declined to say anything more about the room’s condition or any evidence investigators recovered.

There were no indications of foul play and no obvious signs of trauma on Houston’s body, but officials were not ruling out any causes of death until they have toxicology results, which will likely take weeks to obtain. Beverly Hills Police Lt. Mark Rosen said that his agency may release more details Monday about Houston’s death, but it will depend on whether detectives feel comfortable releasing any information.

But a lack of official information hasn’t stopped the rumor mill. Hollywood gossip site TMZ is citing “family sources” who allegedly said the coroner’s office told the family that the star died from mixing prescription drugs and alcohol, not drowning.

Those reports are unconfirmed.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Jennifer is a beautiful lady with a beautiful voice. Her own life has had a great deal of tragedy. She does not sing this song like Whitney USED to. What a waste of a life on drugs and poor choices in partners. May the Lord give her and her family the peace she never seemed to find in this life.

Well if they only knew how you felt about it I’m sure they would stop playing it. Because it is all about you right? Maybe other people feel like hearing it. Here’s an idea. If you don’t like it then turn it off.

We appreciate the tribute and understand it was all put together quickly and with little rehearsal, but Jennifer, honey, bless your heart, you ain’t no Whitney Houston.

As for Whit’s bad choices, said it once and I’ll say it again. The liberal (progressive, collectivist, socialist, democrat, Marxist) doesn‘t live who’s matured beyond the age of 12. This womanchild matured physically but was exposed to all the trappings of privilege without an internal compass or character foundation to empower her to live in the unsheltered reality beyond the hype and image.

Imagine the shock and sense of betrayal and hopelessness when she finally had to face the reality that her star, her ability, was all that ultimately defined her and that it had passed. This end was tragic, but inevitable.

Really no foundation? How do you know this? did you grow up with her? did you go to church with her? were you around when she and cissy talked? or are you just another balloon head so poisned by this worlds man made war on each other, that the compassion givin by the living God has no place with you? @GENE BLISTER seriously like how sad you are that you actually believe everything good is life is associated with what you think or believe. And thus conveniently everything bad is associated with things you don’t think has merit, or rather you can’t understand. It is your perspective and like minded that are the cause of this countries decline.

For some reason “Christians” and Non-Christians both, seem to have a very unforgiving and unmerciful attitude toward people addicted to drugs. Moreso than other sins. Don’t really know why, because right after that list of sins in Romans 2, (which I think gets everyone) it says therefore, do not judge or condemn for if you do your judging and condemning yourself cuz you do the same things. I really loved Whitney back in the 80′s, she had the most pure and angelic voice and was so blessed with talent and beauty and she got on the wrong path. Her pastor and friend was on tv and said Whitney really was a believer, and she really really tried to stop, but the demonic force had her and like she said it is very strong. Nevertheless, people who have never been addicted to drugs or alcohol have no clue the struggle and the pain and the toll it takes. And yes some of us are stronger than others (in the flesh) but none of us are good enough to be righteous enought (without Christ) to look down on another. Especially a sister. God bless you Whitney, I know your at peace now. We will miss you.

It is sad what happened to her, but this adulation of her is bordering on worship and we are told in the Bible not to have any idols. They are treating her as if she was a pious role model to behold and that is wrong.

Things and people only become idols when we idolize them above and before God. Whitney is a sister in the Lord. In the family of God. She never professed being pious. She often admitted her humanness and sins…She admitted to drug use and other things and wanted to overcome the addictions. She fought a loosing battle for whatever reasons, just like a host of others. But she loved God and Jesus Christ. She believed God loved her and that Jesus died for her, in her place. She had to believe she was forgiven or she wouldn’t have made those confessions of faith. Sadly, and too often, some believer’s fail to mature and their faith remains weakened. They haven’t learned to put on the full armor of God and are more prone to fail in their efforts to walk in close fellowship with Him. Whitney took full responsibility for her choices. She said there was no one else to blame. She didn’t blame Bobby or anyone. I’m sure she often considered and suffered the consequences of her lifestyle A sheep may go astray, but God knows His sheep. Of all his sheep, He will loose none. Not Whitney or any other who believes in, and receives Jesus as their Saviour. Have you ever wondered in awe,” What kind of mercy is this? That a Holy God would bring home some of His less mature and unruly children to give them peace and rest in Paradise with Him? Oh, what manner of love is this?

Anytime someone O.D.’s there is always Xanax involved it seems. And I heard on a radio show this morning what Toney Bennett said about it, apperantly he said something like “If drugs were legal this wouldnt have happened”. Old Toney has been off the deep-end for some time now and apperantly his mind is gone. Hey Toney, drugs are illegal because they are dangerous not the other way around you stupid old senile fool! So go put on a new pair of ‘Depends’ and go drool on yourself somewhere in a corner will you? Just because your so old your first cousin to God doesnt mean you know everything, geesh…And one more question, does being a good singer (or great whatever) one of the guaranteed tickets into heaven? I mean if you let your great life you had that most people never even get a taste of go straight to pot to the point of over-dosing and wrecking your family is that a get-in-free card to Heaven? Some on that show seemed to think so I heard. Just wondering.

I was hoping they would fly Dolly in to do the tribute. She would have been able to reach down into her experience and still do a great performance. On the other hand, I don’t fault Jennifer Hudson. With no practice and extreme pressure, she did just fine.

@just – a person who is destined to become an addict doesn‘t need to ’thank’ anyone for being a vehicle. Whitney would have found drugs and alcohol all by herself with nobodies help. Bobby is not to ‘blame’. We all make our choices and live with them. Some of us die with them.

Why can’t some particular singers just sing the notes in the song without the scooping? She did the best she could…I suppose.

As memory serves, Whitney wasn‘t the person that wrote this song and wasn’t the one to make it initially “famous”. She sang it as a song in a truly horrible movie.

That being said, this is a tragedy. I do believe that she indeed has some personal responsibility in the poor choices she made that led to her demise. I don’t think she is the only one culpable. I have seen this happen up close with a few friends in the entertainment industry. The people around them push and push and push for more and more. They don’t care about the individual. All they care about is money. She is just another victim in the neverending pursuit of fame.

Whitney couldn’t even sing it half as well as Dolly. Whitney would sing it “IIIEEEEIIIII will always love you” and add too many ooh‘s and ahhh’s to any song she sang. She had a good voice, but after singing the anthem once, too many people tried to copy that style and it just started to grate on me from there.

I actually decided to listen to the original when Hudson was singing it. It’s not saying the Hudson is not a great singer but sometimes there is no replacing the original. That is when someone is truly legendary in a particular activity, when no one can truly match up. There are a few artists that will make aspiring ones and even present day stars look bad trying to cover, Whitney Houston was one of them.
