A new book by photographer Lindsay McCrum titled “Chicks with Guns” explores and celebrates women’s gun ownership across the United States. And we got the pictures to prove it.
Around 20 million women own guns in the United States. Despite that substantial group, women are not regularly depicted in popular culture as defenders and practitioners of firearms tradition. McCrum decided to change that.
The photos include women from ranches to police departments. Some are hunters, some are competition shooters. A number of them have heirloom guns that have been passed down for generations and have become a cherished part of family lore. And they all believe deeply in their right to defend themselves and their families.
Below is the cover shot from the book:
Over her three years capturing photos of women and firearms, McCrum came to recognize that many women are just as passionate about firearms as their male counterparts. “Their numbers are really high,” McCrum told MSNBC in an interview, ”but their profile is actually really low.” While understated, the profound role of women in gun culture across the U.S. exceeded the author’s expectations.
McCrum said she was “so surprised by the variety and breadth and diversity of these women. There are so many stereotypes about guns… but the reality is so much more complex and varied than you can imagine.”
The author has tried to capture that complexity in 80 portrait photos and individual stories on the role of guns for the women and their families. McCrum learned that women own guns for many reasons, but underlying those personal decisions lies unifying themes of individualism, self-reliance, and the family.
And in a revelation that will surprise no Americans from the heartland, the author said with some surprise that “when you get outside of the blue-state cities, everybody has a gun.”

All that registered in my mind was “mother and baby” “corral” “center-break shotgun”.

Posted on September 30, 2011 at 1:07pm@Lesbian Packing — got a story from my grandmother you might enjoy; she went deer hunting with my grandfather and his friends one summer back east, and gramp’s told her he would try and bring a deer back for her — he chuckled when she told him she could get her own.
The guys had gone about ten minutes when they heard a rifle retort from camp and ran back, figuring she had killed a snake — turned out she killed a big old buck following the guys from behind.
It seems gramps never learned until then that as a girl she took her home town shooting competition first prize several years in a row with pistol and rifle.

Posted on September 30, 2011 at 1:10pmI agree with lady packing hollow points. The fotos are sexy in a tastefully appealing way. It makes me proud to be an American, where our women aren’t going to lay down and die if their men (or lady lovers) are killed. My wife can shoot my 12 gauge (though she doesn’t like the kick).
The girl on the cover looks young…but she could be 19 or 20. I’ve met (dated) women that retain a very young looking figure (much to their dismay…lots of complaints of wanting more “curves”). Aside from that, I think its normal (just taboo) to notice if a 14 yo that just happens to be sexy. Beauty is Beauty. Its what you do with those thoughts and desires that matters – even if you are a Lesbian (with or without hollow points). I see no issue with what Lesbianpackinghollowpoints said…even though I don’t agree with the lifestyle.
The last picture was my favorite. It says to me:

Steampunk is a subculture and genre of art/literature/technology etc. that romanticizes the Victorian era, mostly the 1890s, but it can range. Basicly, neo-Victoriana. All the wood floors, wallpaper (that’s not on a “desktop”), flowing, lacy dresses, and most especially the corset with a two-gun single-action rig all scream neo-Victoriana to me.
Basicly, think about all those westerns you’ve ever seen… Now wonder what kind of invention and tinkering might have been going on in the basement shops of city-dwelling scientists contemporary with the cowboys and Indians stories. It generally involves clothing styles at least a century old, steam power, and lots and lots of brass.

Your “Lesbian Packing Hollow Points” title suggests that your sexuality is possibly central to your life. The term “homophobe” is a label used by yourself and others without understanding the definition. Homophobe suggests a fear of homosexuals. The fact that you are a lesbian packing hollow points fails to strike fear into me. I strongly disagree with the gay agenda yet I do not fear homosexuals so what label have you for me?
The gay agenda is like a p.e.n.i.s…..
1. It’s fine to have one
2. It’s fine to be proud of it
3. Don’t whip it out in public and wave it around: Most folks don’t want to see it
4. Don‘t try to shove it down my children’s throat (public school gay curriculum)
The impression I get from the gay agenda is that if you disagree with it and happen to be a Christian, you are labeled a fundamentalist bigot.
Your title and comments are meant to draw criticism, giving you the opportunity to forward your blatant agenda through a ridiculous rant.

You know who else demanded an ideologicly “pure” party? Stalin. Know who else? Mao. Know who else? Hitler.
It’s Republicans like you that made me leave the Republican Party for the Libertarian Party, and as long as Republicans continue to demand purity tests for public office, America will continue to get candidates the likes of Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Maxine Waters, Schumer, Sheila Jackson Lee, and Weiner.
I *am* a Right-Wing Conservative. Demanding smaller government by keeping government out of the business of deciding who can and can’t marry *is* a Conservative value. As long as “Social Conservative” remains a synonym for “Religious Right”, I will not call myself one of those. But as I said, I’m also a Steampunk fan. I value the societal stability that came with certain classic societal values.
And if that’s insufficient, the day I let some mental midget decide how I can and cannot politicly label myself will be the day he carves it on my tombstone.

These women are confident, comfortable with both their feminity and their love of guns (steriotypical male object) and they way they carry themselves while still remaining true to their feminine nature–the woman with the babe, woman with the old western-esq corset and skirt, and the young woman on the top who is siting in a very feminine position and wearing a very feminine dress–these women are the epitome of a confident, independent woman… and that my friends is sexy.

I think you have an incomplete etymological education. I believe you will find that phobias and the phobics and phobes who have them, are not based exclusively around fear, but also have a large facet of *hatred*. Even if you’re NOT _afraid_ of gays, if you have hatred in your heart (or politics) toward them, you still fit the common definition of a homophobe.
If you really wanted to get etymologicly up in arms over the word homophobia, it would be more appropriate to decry the application of the prefix strictly to homosexuality. Would not homophobia refer to either a fear (or hatred) of men and/or a fear (or hatred) of things which are similar? God help such a homophobe who is both and meets a pair of twin boys.
I find it curious that in an article about guns, with a screen name about guns, so many people instead want to focus on my sexuality. I also find it somewhat disturbing. Don’t get any spunk on your receiver.

Posted on September 30, 2011 at 2:28pmSocial conservatives don’t have to get bent lol… though I might not understand what being “bent” means. What they have to do is understand it is not our place to judge, no person speaks for God. Gay marriage forces the acceptance by the masses of something they don’t approve of, that is where social conservatives should stand on their argument. Not that being gay is wrong, telling lies are wrong and all sins are the same in God’s eyes. So lay off our friend you hateful fake Christians. The girls are hot and the Steampunk theme makes them all the hotter… what they had guns too!!! Oh and the 14yr old…. sorry to burst your bubble guys but do you have any clue how young most supermodels are these days… Our society has decided to make children sex objects, and people that look like children are also pushed in a sexy like type manner. So it’s hard to judge age when looking at pictures, pretty is pretty, sexy is sexy until you hear they are to young. Can you tell I have a.d.d.

People who think because of how they act and what they believe that they are more holy then others… It’s a good thought if you dont like following what Bible teaches. Ms. LPHP dont mind them they are deceived, just know some of us will always welcome you with open arms. Now for the bit that will probably make you mad but will explain something to the haters. It’s called “sin nature” we got it when Adam decided to eat an apple. We are born with it and it makes us predetermined to snuggle with a specific sin, I have addictions to fight against, some people are born as compulsive liars, but that doesn’t mean that is how God made us and that we should just accept it. It is how we were born and it’s something to struggle against. Being that all sins are the same in Gods eyes… (well it does say he hates those that lie so that might be worse) and lying is the most prevalent sin and most accepted in our world. Why not go on your crusade against those that lie… oh what you would have to go after yourself… that’s to bad looks like you will have to climb off your high horse. One man did not sin in the history of this world, your not him. If I was you I would try my best to live a good life focus on yourself and your family and not judge others for we are all sinners.

Posted on October 1, 2011 at 7:46am@Lesbian… interesting that your first reactions to this article is not to remark about these strong, self-assured women, or about gun rights, but pushing your sex-deviance as the major topic, that you’ve got the “hots” for these women, as your first thing to say. I doubt if you’ve ever shot a gun, and if you dared to push your ****** into the faces of these strong women as you do on this blog, they’d use you for target practice. Can’t speak for others, but I am really disgusted how every time, that homosexuals push their genitals into the public view as the first order of business, no matter what is being discussed, guns, grapefruit, the weather — “Hey I’m Gay! Listen to Me tell you how I want to screw this one, or that one! Aren’t I interesting!” No, you are not. It is no different than if a sex-frustrated male would start making lacivious commentary as a first impulse. Get a grip.

Posted on October 1, 2011 at 11:27am@SNOW, yes I love your grandmother’s story. Reminds me of mine. My grandpa taught me how to shoot an old single shot 22 rifle when I was about 9 yrs. old and I’ve had a love affair with guns ever since. Married into a hunting family and could outshoot all of them, to date I bagged the biggest deer antlers of all, may have made Boone & Crocket had I submitted it.
Report Post »To the lady shooting a shot gun, get a 20 ga., doesn’t kick. After carrying a gun, when traveling, for years, I finally decided to get a carry permit. At the class, I was such a good shot I was asked to join a women’s shooting team or consider becoming an instructor for NRA.
Many women in my town have carry permits and I do feel safer from all the creeps out there, You just never know when it’s needed.

Posted on October 1, 2011 at 8:14pm@Christhefarmer… You speak of fake Christians & defend not only sinning, but a sin that the Bible calls an ABOMINATION.
Leviticus 18:22 And thou shalt not lie with mankind as one lieth with a woman: it is an abomination.
Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
I have read few passages in the Bible that give the wage of death for a sin. Yes we all sin, some ARE worse than others. Murder is worse than lying. Adultery is worse than lying. Calling us false Christians because we too sin is ludicrous & seems to show that you are not a believer in Christ. Do not condemn US because we believe in the Word of God & detest what he detests. Do not condemn us for sinning ourselves.
Yes we all sin, BUT, the object is too fight the sin, as you said. I am a sinner, I have drank, & done drugs, I have committed adultery. But i no longer do drugs because it is wrong. I no longer sleep with other mens wives, because it is wrong. To defend a persons RIGHT to sin is wrong. Redemption from sin only comes from fighting the sin & seeking redemption.
At least speaking for myself, we do not dislike lesbian packing hollow points because she claims to be a libertarian, with wildly liberal views. She puts her orientation out there as her persona. The first thing she demands that you know about her is that she is a lesbian. Stop the agenda, fight

1. It’s fine to have one
2. It’s fine to be proud of it
3. Don’t whip it out in public and wave it around: Most folks don’t want to see it
4. Don‘t try to shove it down my children’s throat (public school religious curriculum)
The impression I get from the religious agenda is that if you disagree with it and happen to be gay, you are labeled some kind of subversive pervert bent on tricking christians into being gay.
Your title and comments are meant to draw criticism, giving you the opportunity to forward your blatant agenda through a ridiculous rant.

Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals. But you see Christ the Farmer..Hollow Points is not a Christian. we are told to shun believers who adopt this lifesyle…not non believers. If God wants Hollow Points, he will bring her in. I myself don’t understand why people of the same sex want to be together sexually. Looks llike they could just be friends like most folks. That burning of the flesh is a powerful thing…and from what I understand the hardest thing to break free of, but anything is possible with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Posted on September 30, 2011 at 12:20pmGuns have always had a practical purpose: protection from animals living closeby.
Guns in the revolution were given a political purpose: protection from Tyranny.
The “animals closeby” have changed from animal to human, but they are still there.
The tyranny has slowly grown back and is a significant threat today.
So, this book of pics is good to keep the rights alive due to real purposes for it, and to prevent “gun rights” accommodation being limited to “sports usage”.

Posted on September 30, 2011 at 12:50pmThe 2nd Amendment doesn’t mention animals. I now most people don’t at all read it the way I do, the way I believe it was meant.
A well regulated militia, BEING NECESSARY TO THE SECURITY OF A FREE STATE, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Translated into modern english:
Arms citizens are so important to the security of this country and it’s freedoms that the government cannot make laws infringing on the right to own and carry them.
I know most folks concentrate heavily on the guns part, but to me the importance is in the fact that it’s the only amendment that not only makes a clear limitation on the government, but actually explains WHY. They felt it was so important that it needed to be clearly defined.

Posted on September 30, 2011 at 1:23pm@LPHP, nice!!! I‘m sure you’ve heard this quote before, but it’s certainly worth repeating:
These things I believe: That government should butt out. That freedom is our most precious commodity and if we are not eternally vigilant, government will take it all away. That individual freedom demands individual responsibility. That government is not a necessary good but an unavoidable evil. That the executive branch has grown too strong, the judicial branch too arrogant and the legislative branch too stupid. That political parties have become close to meaningless. That government should work to insure the rights of the individual, not plot to take them away. That government should provide for the national defense and work to insure domestic tranquility. That foreign trade should be fair rather than free. That America should be wary of foreign entanglements. That the tree of liberty needs to be watered from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. That guns do more than protect us from criminals; more importantly, they protect us from the ongoing threat of government. That states are the bulwark of our freedom. That states should have the right to secede from the Union. That once a year we should hang someone in government as an example to his fellows.

Real women are strong, courageous, independent, self-sufficient, capable and can just as easily wear a flannel shirt and jeans as they can a slinky black dresss. The models you refer to are literally objectified by men. I find it very interesting that so many have found this book to be sooooo sexy. Why? Because its real!
