Remember the “unusually expressive” speech (as per HuffPo) that Texas Gov. Rick Perry gave on Friday night? You know — the one that had some critics questioning whether the GOP presidential candidate was inebriated?
Following reports in the media and throughout the blogosphere about his appearance at Cornerstone Action’s Annual Fundraising Dinner, Perry, appearing totally unfazed, is defending himself.
On Tuesday, he dismissed questions that have surrounded his speech performance that evening, saying, “I would always tell people to go back and ask Dan Balz.” Here, Perry was referencing a column over the weekend in which Balz, a reporter for the Washington Post, described Perry as “extremely animated“ and ”playful” during his talk.
“This was a great crowd, good response, and I guess you can do anything you want with a video and make it look any way you want, but it felt good, felt great,” Perry explained. “I felt the message got across very well.”
Below, watch him make these comments:
And here’s the original video that sparked the controversy:
While this story did, initially, generate publicity, it was eclipsed by 2012 GOP hopeful Herman Cain and his sexual harassment controversy.

Posted on November 4, 2011 at 2:01pmI’ve seen that type of over casualness in shy and or slightly introverted public speakers. Some people just get panicked like feelings, in front of groups, and go with an animated style of presentation. It’s not a big problem and does diminish with experiance.

Posted on November 3, 2011 at 2:59pmPerhaps his plan for the border is really not all that radical and deserves closer scrutiny. After all, if it has the backing of Texans as he claims, maybe it should be considered.

Posted on November 4, 2011 at 12:37amHe also claims that ******/Gardasil shots for little girls have the support of Texans, and that is plainly false.

Posted on November 4, 2011 at 1:49amPerry never said that regarding Gardisil. That bill was never passed by the Legislature, so NOT one dose was ever given. Non-story. That was nearly 5 years ago.

Posted on November 4, 2011 at 7:43amHis plan for the border is better than any other candidates. Everyone else wants a fence. A fence alone will not solve the problem. Perry has a comprehensive plan to secure the border. Shame is, nobody is listening.

Posted on November 3, 2011 at 12:08pmSo this is the original video on Perry’s widely reported speech. Hmmm… That went viral? This was supposed to have made the negative news for Perry? You’ve got to be kidding. Someone is trying to stretch things a little too far for making that into something other than a means to make a lot of people hear some of Perry’s talking points. Maybe those who found fault and saw certain things there are really seeing things they do themselves instead? It’s hard to tell but its sounds like someone is trying to waste our time. However, it does raise the question. “Why attack him if he’s supposed to be such a “loser” as some say? The attack actually shows someone really fears him winning.

Posted on November 4, 2011 at 1:53amYou are correct. The Minister that was with Perry the entire day, stated that this video was altered, and Perry has stated the same thing. The Minister also stated that Perry drank water all day. Nothing else. However, in this case, Perry was feeling good (finally after his back surgery) and just in a good mood telling jokes. This is classic Perry.

Posted on November 3, 2011 at 10:12pmI thought it was great. He felt comfortable being himself in front of welcoming people. The people who were there in person said they didn’t see anything out of the ordinary except it was Perry having a good time and was being himself. No matter what a conservative does, the libs will make something out of it. I’m inclined to believe the people who were there saw a Perry who was enjoying himself.

Posted on November 3, 2011 at 7:48amOh please ! This kid might have a real message hidden somewhere in his egotistical rant, but come on, he’s really a few bricks shy of a full load. I have read extensively on the Bilderbergers, Council on Foreign Relations, and all these other secret societies and there really is something there to be concerned about. You can get more and better information from many other sources than this ego maniacal, camera loving, basement bound, ham bone. As Glenn says, “Do your own research” !

Posted on November 3, 2011 at 2:15amHerman Cain has essentially LIED about 3 women! Since he has already broken the confidentiality pledge, these women should be able to come forward like they want to and clear their names! He is a LIAR and a CAD!
I haven’t trusted him since I found out he was a Washington Lobbyist for the Tobacco industry and actively lobbied against Smoke Free Restaurants. No thank you. I’ll pass on Herman Cain.
Rick Perry for President!

Posted on November 3, 2011 at 10:21pmGoes to show you! lobbyist aren’t to be trusted. So, why do we American’s allow them to sway our Congress? Could it be money under the table? Prestige? Trips? Promise to donate to re-election? Power? Or to be lobbied, makes them feel more important?
Report Post »We need to get rid of the lobby’s in D.C. or make them prove they have a good point that will be good for the American people and is a legitimate, necessary cause.

Posted on November 3, 2011 at 9:12amChuck . . . Cain is the best you have? You mean the guy who said, “China is committed to getting nuclear capability.” That Cain? Everything else aside, what makes you think a guy who knows so little about the world and its threats is qualified to be commander in chief?

Posted on November 4, 2011 at 2:00amThere is a huge difference from the instate tuition offered in TX and what is offered in CA. In TX, the students must pay their own tuition and are not illegal for any financial assistance. They don’t pay, they don’t go. Not the case in CA, they get financial assistance like citizens.
