See the ‘Brutal’ Anti-Perry Attack Ad the Romney Campaign Mysteriously Pulled

There‘s an interesting story brewing after Mitt Romney’s campaign posted an attack advertisement on YouTube and then later removed it.
The ad, which focuses on Texas Gov. Rick Perry, is characterized by Gawker’s Max Read as “personal and direct” — an accurate description to say the least.
The short video doesn‘t contain a stitch of anything that is favorable to Perry’s speaking abilities, intelligence or preparedness. Clearly, lambasting each of these areas was the Romney campaign’s goal, as the video concludes by asking, “Is he ready to lead? “HotAir.com’s Allah Pundit describes the clip as follows:
It’s a symphony of Gump-ishness. Being a bad debater, while problematic in the general election, doesn’t disqualify you from being the nominee; being an idiot in general does. That’s the lesson. Offhand, I can’t remember ever seeing an ad like this that’s aimed not at showing that an opponent is stupid about a particular issue but that he’s stupid in general.
While the ad has been taken down, CNN ran a version of it during one of its shows. In it, various clips of Perry’s less-than-stellar debate performances are knitted together along with news reports that lambast the governor:
Read contends that it’s a bit odd that the Romney campaign would be focusing on Perry, considering that the Texas governor’s campaign is weak at the moment.
However, Romney‘s heated exchange with Perry at the Republican debate this week surrounding Romney’s hiring of illegal immigrants may have served as a catalyst for the ad. Erick Erickson shares his views on the making of the ad (his comments were posted before it was pulled by the Romney campaign):
This is a necessary attack from Mitt Romney. Had he not pushed something out like this, the story would be that Mitt Romney got wounded last night. In several unscripted, unguarded moments he mentioned he failed to keep costs down in Massachusetts and was worried about illegals working for him because he was running for political office.
But this doesn’t explain why the campaign would post, then remove the ad. ThinkProgress has been promoting the ad and its removal via social media:

Allah Pundit does note that some ads are pulled temporarily, especially when they utilize video footage that may be called into question due to copyright. While he suggests that it’s possible the clip is being re-edited because of this, if it was, indeed, yanked, he says it is “a total embarrassment.”

Posted on October 20, 2011 at 9:05amPerry is governor over one of the worlds strongest economies (15th last I read) and it is booming. Of course it’s a magnet for illegals – hell it’s a magnet for everyone based upon relocation numbers both national and international. He’s been chosen to head the Republican Governors association. Eagle Scout (non-trivial distinction), actual military aviator (non-trivial distinction), leader of the strongest free-market conservative state (non-trivial distinction), comes from verrry humble background (NOT another silver spooning East Coast elitist). WHY does everyone keep propping up these neo-liberal Republican elitist bastards who can’t even stick to a position – not just one . . . ANY position. Hell, at least Romney waits a couple of days beforetripping and then flipping, Cain did it in a matter of hours. Just like that liberal congresswoman who said we should suspend elections! . . . just kidding. Well, Rick Perry isn’t kidding – this election is NON-TRIVIAL and he’s the man. Period. Look who the libs, the Rep elite, the literatti (MSM) etc. are rooting for and propping up – Romney. So ya’ll keep focusing on silly style over substance issues – see how that works out.

Posted on October 20, 2011 at 9:21amKflouche, I hope few people share your poorly conceived strategy. I will support any candidate but one of the current field over Romney, but am also convinced that four years of an Obama administration unfettered by a desire for re-election is the end of America as we know it, and would vote for any Republican nominee to prevent it. Even Huntsman.
Romney is clearly a big government guy, but at least he’s also pro-business. He may not actively seek the repeal of the provisions of Obamacare, but he also won’t stand in the way if we have a Congress that will. He may be a relatively big spender, but he would be the alternative to the man who has driven the largest annual deficits in the history of the world. Staying home in 2012 is not an option for anyone using their brain instead of their heart, and neither is a late third party candidate.

Posted on October 20, 2011 at 9:24amPerry is a party switcher, the ultimate flip-flop. He supported Al Gore. That in itself is unforgivable. Both he an Romney do nothing but act like bratty children and are not fit to lead. They have no ideas and no backbone when push comes to shove. Besides, no independents would vote for either of them. ron Paul, even if he went third party would get most of those votes. He would probably score quite few Dem votes to boot for his foreign policy stance. We need a good 4 years of his ideas to get back on track. Otherwise we are toast. Herman Cain is my 2nd Pick with Bachman in 3rd, only because she is a little to timid.

Obviously you are as disconnected as the people who live in NY City. Patience is a virtue, hold the course. We have our elected Tea Party members in Congress and need more in the Senate, which is where you should focus your efforts. I hated when Karl Rove dissed a few Pure Tea Party candidates but some lost and if we had won those seats with more mainstream Republicans we could have had CUT,CAP and Balance and reversed Obamacare, NOW. ( sigh) The Nation would have been better off for it. Begrudgingly, I confess Rove was correct. WHOEVER the REPUBLICAN nominee, we’ll be FAR better off than a second Obama term or do you want more of the last 3 years??? I know THE ESTABLISHMENT is pushing but so many Republicans have become purists. ( Think annoying environmentalists who won’t flush the toilet to save water). Romney is a progressive, no different in actual substance that Obama.

Bachmann is also cloaked, she worked for Jimmy Cater.
Gingrich is trying to force big government control of medical care and has been for a long time.
Cain is a viper who was head of the Federal Reserve in KC.
Santorum is a zealot, who would force raped women to have the baby.
Huntsman has way to many ties to China, and openly cows to them.
Johnson has a gay agenda he seems to be trying to force down our throats.

Posted on October 20, 2011 at 10:36amI definitely think Newt is the best choice for VP. I think he’s a strong choice for President, but I worry that his personal and political baggage would hurt his chances. But if he doesn’t get the nomination I sincerely hope whoever does chooses him as their running mate.
My personal favorite for president, as I’ve said many times, is Gary Johnson. He has a very strong record of execute leadership in limiting government growth and balancing budgets. And at this point in my life I put a lot more weight on what people have done than what they are saying. And no one has an executive resume that even begins to touch that of Johnson’s. It’s honestly that good.
My second teir choices are Cain, Paul and Newt. If any of these four get the nomination I’ll be happy to vote for them.
To be honest I really like what Romney SAYS. He’s TALKING like a conservative. And he has kept his cool when many would have lost it. I‘m just afraid that if he actually gets elected he won’t ACT like a conservative. If he gets the nomination would I vote for him? Every one running for the republican nomination would be far better than Obama so yes, I would vote for him in 2012. It would be a disaster to have a conservative run as an independent in 2012 (I’m sure Obama would be the first to write a campaign donation for them).

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
NO, If we want America destroyed, just follow along with the uneducated people who believe Obama!
Besides everything he’s done to help destroy this Country, I don‘t like the things he’s said in his books, like: “Audacity of Hope” ie: “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”
I think he’s already proved this. Many other knowing things he’s written in other books, like he has “Animosity against his mother’s race.“ from ”Dreams of my father”
Just these thoughts from his books and knowing who his personal friends are makes me wary of this man. Who keeps friends like this and fills the White House with these people?

Posted on October 20, 2011 at 8:36amI keep hearing about Reagan’s 11th Commandment: Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican. But I don’t really think it applies within a primarry campaign where Republicans are running against other Republicans. It seems to me Reagan meant it for normal political life where Republicans should close ranks angainst the common for of the Democrats. McCain was always a prime violater in this area, as most RINOs are along with their moderate (liberal) pundits and operatives. The key would be to see how Reagan campaigned against Ford in 1976.
Still, engaging in this kind of negativity is bound to make it difficult to bring all Republicans together for the general campaign later.
I can see why Romney pulled this ad. It will make HIM look bad. Perry was already looking bad all on his own. There is an adage in politics: When your enemy is destroying himself, don’t get in the way.
