See New Yorkers Trip & Fall on a Tricky Subway Step in This Hilarious Video Montage

Filmmaker Dean Peterson noticed something very odd about the subway stop near his home. Nearly every day, he would see people very literally tripping up the stairs. So, he decided to take out his camera and create a montage of hustling and bustling New Yorkers falling and losing their footing as they strolled up the rogue staircase.

“The subway station I use everyday has something very peculiar about it,” a graphic proclaims at the start of Peterson’s epic montage. ”One of the stairs is a fraction of an inch higher than the others — making it just high enough so EVERYONE trips on it.”

In the video, you’ll see people from all walks of life who seem completely dumbfounded after the misfit step fails them. The filmmaker was apparently able to capture 17 people losing step over a one-hour period.

Watch the comical clip, below:

CNN caught up with Peterson this week to discuss the video, which is making its viral rounds on blogs and news sites.

“I felt bad videotaping some of the people,” he told the network. “Luckily nobody got hurt.”

One of the victims of the problematic staircase spoke up, too, telling CNN, ”I almost bust my entire behind on that step.”

Here’s the CNN report:

That subway station is about 60 years old, those stairs were probably worked on in the 70‘s or 80’s, who knows, maybe in the 90′s yet thats been like that for years, I’m sure dozens of people phoned in complaints, it took a public display of embarrassment to the MTA to immediately address the situation.

    At least its fixed now…

Another example of government… don’t fix it until your publicly shamed or the better one is:

Gov’t — “If it ain’t broke, keep fixing it until it is broke”

Sadly, it had to be repaired by union workers. After nine years of negotiating they were able to complete the rework in just 5 years at a cost of $ 12,000.000.00

After walking up that many stairs, I would need to enjoy a Big Gulp! Does anyone know where can get one in New York.

I‘m glad they don’t have stars like that in Texas, my Concealed Carry might fall out.

NYC has insanely good mass transit for how many people live there. No one needs a car. Best city in the world. The East and West coasts run this country.

CA has more debt than Greece. Wealth is fleeing NY, NJ, CA, OR, WA, among other liberal states. Bloomberg is turning NY into a police state – soon the nazis will be checking the size of your soda… what’s next?

Oh, yeah… when libs bankrupt the country, and there are mass food shortages, I’m sure all those nice NYC folk will help each other…LOL. It will make for good TV though!!

there will be a law suit that will cost millions more than it will cost to fix the steps.
But the city won’t fix it until someone makes millions.
That’s the way stupid government types think and work
Wait until they control you healthcare …. tripping will seem like a vacation.

the obvious problem for us fix it types. Imagine how hard it is to fix these concrete step problems. Do you take them all out and start over ($K’s). I guess I would just paint the whole step and put a sign up. Leave it to the govt. to solve. Thats what we do.

Nothing funny about people tripping on steps, especially people carrying babies.
I feel sure that some people in the past, have been seriously injured on these steps. How many brain injuries, broken bones, broken teeth, and scars have these steps caused?

But, I am very thankful that Dean Peterson posted a video of the problem, to draw attention to it. Even though it was possibly just to get laughs, it still got the city’s attention.

There have been studies done about steps. If any one step varies even slightly from the other steps, people will trip. It has nothing to do with looking where you are going. You could be looking right at the set of steps and you would never notice one step being a fraction off.

Hope they have been repaired properly. If there is a fire or terrorist attack, and panic to flee the subway, the exit stairs could be blocked by folks who have fallen. This defective step could cost many lives.

The Liberals are getting attention with the BFD shirts..so how about adding to your humor…a shirt that reads: I Am A Trippy or a lengthy one that reads: On The Stairway to Heaven, I Tripped. or a play on Tip-Toe through the tulips and make it: Tripping through the tulips. Ok, Ok I’ll stop..LOL
      Have a great day America!!!
p.s. Bought a t-shirt in New York in the 90′s & it showed the Statue of Liberty & The Twin Towers. Before 9/11, I wore the shirt painting a house and mowing the lawn etc. and washed it many times…..it is faded now, BUT “I haven’t forgotten”
      God Bless NYC !!!

Come on,really? There is no way to tell what their political leanings are. That was just obsurd. On another note, I do find ininteresting how when walking up steps, most people move their feet to just the right level of the next step with out even thinking about it, and that just a slight difference causes so many to trip up. The human mind is truly amazing that we move our feet with suck precision and memory.

Call the union. Have them fix that “problem”. By my best estimates, they will have to shut down that entrance/exit, remove the stairs and probably most concrete work surrounding the stairs and then have a meeting to decide what to do next – after their vacations are complete. How much could that possibly cost New Yorkers? I will start the bidding at 5 million dollars.

Then it still won’t be right (won’t pass code, for example) and they will have to start all over again.
