See the Nail-Biting Video of a Man Tight-Rope Walking Over a 3,000 Foot High Canyon

Highliner Crosses Yosemite Valley on Tight Rope With No Safety Measures

If circus tight-rope walkers amaze you, Dean Potter, a highliner, will stun you.

Highlining is a version of extreme tight-rope walking — without a balance pole. In one of Potter’s latest highlining expeditions, he crosses Taft Point at Yosemite National Park in California, potentially setting a record for highlining.

Watch Potter as he makes his way without any safety measures across this 100-foot rope above more than 3,000 foot drop:

The Post Game reports that Potter is also known for base jumping and other extreme sports. Here‘s more on The Post Game’s thoughts:

That video is all kinds of “Nope.” Potter takes two steps over the gorge, and our fingers are already out, testing the wind for the slightest shift in direction. No way, no how, would you ever find any of us even standing on the ledge looking over, let alone walking out. We applaud you if you were even able to watch the whole video without hitting pause.

The New York Times a few years ago (via The Post Game) reported that Potter learned this extreme tight-rope walking from “homeless man who wrote books on quantum physics.” From the Times’ account, Potter is no stranger to Yosemite. In 2002, he became the first man to free climb El Capitan and Half Dome in less than a day.

At the time, the Times reported Potter as saying he “a little helpless” when he gets to the middle of the rope.

A fake video. Blue Screen technology is so good these days! Great video tricky and the person that faked this video did an Outstanding Job!

Have any proof to back this up, or are you just too thick-headed to open your mind to the possibility? The guy has had many witnesses of his stunts.

He’ll just fall a few inches because of blue screen technology that is used for special effects you see in movies. Very good job in faking this walk across a blue screen with a super background of a very deep canyon.

Unfortunately I’ve seen too many videos where these stunts go wrong. You’re either a genius if you succeed or a proud recipient of a Darwin Award if you fail.

He has one safety, think quick and grab the rope, one chance. Reminds me wiley cyote falling into the canyon with the river faintly seen at the bottom holding a sign that says BYE

I don’t know, kinda looks like trick photography to me. Why do we get so many shots of just from his torso to his head and then just from his hips to his feet. And when we get full body shots it’s only for a second or two and they even look kinda stiff.

And no wind, in Yosemite Valley? Come on, WTF. I’m callin BS on this one.

Saw a story on the guy who does this with no safety gear on espn. I’m not sure if this is the same guy i havent watched it yet but he does cross hundreds of feet of tightrope over 2000 feet off the ground. It was insane and much better camera shots than this sounds like.

No wind?? Did you even watch the video? Obviously he’s going to wait until the wind is minimal before he attempts, but you can see the wind blowing through his hair and pants and see it moving the wire.

Good catch… I almost missed it. Too bad he bills it as being done without any safety device as I don’t think anyone would have given him much grief about taking the precaution. It is the lie that always come back to bite you in the arse.

Alrighty then, I think I found a substitue for my afternoon coffee. Just watching this gave me an adrenaline rush. Sweet! It is amazing the power of the mind. Put this rope 12 inches off of the ground and we could all probably do it. Raise it 3000 feet and it becomes almost impossible, same rope.
