See the New Jimmy Kimmel Prank Involving Kids & a Fake Lie Detector (Over 1M Views)

Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has struck comedic gold with his reaction videos where parents have tricked children into thinking they had eaten all their Halloween candy or that they’d received the lamest Christmas present ever.

Now, he’s leaving the parents out of it and taking the trick into his own hands.

Explaining that good sportsmanship and honesty are “more important than anything when it comes to sports,” he has taken it upon himself to — ironically — share this lesson with “the next generation of professional athletes.” Using a fake lie detector machine, complete with a metal colander helmet, Kimmel dons his lie detective suspenders and, with the disturbing “truth fairy” standing by, proceeds to question the 7-year-old Blake.

Kimmel: “Do you like school?”

Blake: “Yes”

Bzzzzt.

Kimmel again: “Do you like school?”

Blake: “No”

Kimmel: “Why not?”

Blake: “Because I’m bad at science.”

Blake reveals he does like math, to which Kimmel asks “What’s 8+8?” Although Blake answers correctly, he gets a wrong buzzer. He already knows better than to push his luck in protest, although the internal war shows on his face.

Watch the whole clip for yourself to see how it goes when Blake is asked if he’s peed in the pool before; if dad is smarter than mom; and if mom ever ever does dumb things:

Blake, testing his limits, may tell a couple lies but after the lie-revealing buzzer, he amends his ways. The buzzer is so effective at pulling out the answer Kimmel wants to hear that even when Blake may very well be telling the truth, he reverses his stance to not hear the dreaded sound again.

What do you think of Kimmel’s reaction experiments with children? Let us know in the comments.

This is one of the neatest and funniest clips I have ever seen. Kimmel does a great job on this one but the kid is priceless with his timing and his expressions.

Come on, have we all become so jaded and cynical that we can’t just have a laugh? Why do a lot of you have to put some evil agenda into everything? Relax for just a few minute, you might live longer.

The fat “Latino” fairy dressed in a pink tutu is the creepiest part of this. Child molesting by southern invaders seems to be rather prevalent and not funny.

I agree that it was kind of a mean thing to do. I personally did not find it all that funny, but it seems that some people have, which is fine. IF the child’s mother was there and if she or his father take the opportunity to explain to the child what was really going on, this could be used as an important lesson on standing up for what is true and right no matter the consequences. It may be a good way for the child to realize how easily one can be manipulated and help him learn to stand up to peer pressure in the future.

This is an excellent example form of operant conditioning. Operant conditioning is when a person’s behavior is modified by the consequences that the behavior brings about.

The child realizes (quickly) through trial and error, that it is better to answer the questions according to what Mr. Kimmell is wanting than to face the negative consequences (namely, being considered a liar). The noise of the truth detector is a reinforcer.

This clip could easily be used in a Psychology 101 class.

That said, the kid has been conditioned to be wary of any blind test like this again.

I believe it will come out that this kid was an actor, his parents not only were nearby outside the set, but a SAG representative AND his SAG-mandated tutor were in earshot, and he’d gone through the script a half-dozen times in read-throughs prior to the show. The cuss-word was probably an ad-lib, though, to get that kind of reaction…but they probably told the kid there’d be an ad-lib question or two, and to “go with it”.

When you’re brought up as an actor, you it’s no big deal. You learn that reality is malleable on a set. It’s a place made of unreality and fiction. It has nothing to do with the real world. Out there, you have to do homework and coyotes really do fall off cliffs, and even the child actors know it full well. They aren’t idiots. They’re just really good at fooling you into thinking they are.

More harm is done in allwing a kid to watch 1 hour of prime time television. Agreed? At least someone will take the time to explain to this kid that it was not real. who explains thoroughly tat what they see on Tv is not reality?

I have a grandson who believes that people in the USA are starving because of a PSA on the radio. He has been lead to believe that their numbers are legion. He is unable to explain why there are so many fat people. He is also convinced that there is some kind of ecological disaster looming and that we need to reduce our carbon footprint. There is a lot of carbon in a sugar molecule, but he is uncertain about the equation between temperature and how many Skittles you can eat. He is pretty sure his sister is causing more than her fair share of green house gas.

What a sick cruel joke to play on a seven year old child.
Seven is too young for this type of intimidation.
This kid is NOT having a good time.

    Think about it.
The kid is alone in a room with man in a pink dress and a (fake) policeman.
Jimmy tells kid it’s okay to pee in pool.
Jimmy convinces kid that he hates puppies and school.
Jimmy convinces kid that his math answer is wrong.
Jimmy convinces kid that his Mom does dumb things.
Jimmy convinces kid that Dad is smarter than Mom.
Jimmy tricks the kid into cursing.

This sort of thing can scar a young child. This kid will end up in therapy.
Jimmy Kimmel has stooped to a new low. Hope he gets cancelled.

It’s a television set with 3 fake walls, 3 cameras a few feet away, and the child’s mother standing nearby.

It made me laugh, and I have no doubt that afterwards it was explained backwards and forwards that this was all a joke for television.

jeez.. get over it. I have 2 kids and all my friends have kids… kids get bullied, embarrassed, do stupid stuff, say the wrong things all the time. It took me 2 weeks after my first one was born to realize that kids aren’t made out of glass. Everyone of has had bad things happen as kids and amazingly 99.999% of us grow up fine and life goes on… this prolly taught him a few zingers to throw around at school and will make him hella-cool with the 3rd grade chicks!!!!
