See the NYC Subway Fight Broken Up by a Man Calmly Eating His Pringles

Earlier this month, there was an altercation (surprise!) on a New York City subway train.
That’s not news! People fight all the time on subways! you say.
True. However, what is notable is how the fight was broken up: by a nonchalant, snacking bystander who calmly steps in to stop a fight between a man and a woman where punches and kicks were flying all over the place (via EITANNOYZE’s YouTube page — explicit language):
So how did the fight start anyway?
“Apparently the dude by the door followed the woman onto the train, which she was, understandably, none too [pleased] about,” the Huffington Post reports. “Words and kicks are exchanged until our quiet superhero steps in…appearing as if he knows nothing’s going on, and completely defuses the situation.”
The quiet “superhero” is Charles Sonder and he was just on his way to gets some drinks with his friends.
“I felt the need to stop the fight as soon as I could. It seemed that the girl was the first one to make physical contact, but that’s no excuse for any man to kick any female,” Sonder told NYU Local. “I had to do something. Everyone else was just sitting there watching.”
“Typically, I mind my own business on the train. In this case, I thought someone may have needed help. I would consider myself a helpful person as well as a bit of a ‘snacker,’” he added.
We just can‘t get over how much he looks like he doesn’t care. It’s awesome, really.

Sure, frolicking about the Village with the “boys” is safe just about any time of year.
NYC is a big city and you commuters only see a teeny tiny little percent of it.
Mostly the parts from battery park to 96th on the east and 125 on the west.
I moved to Sheepshead Bay in 1999,
Then moved to Hell Gate (not Hells Kitchen) in 2000 where I watched the place gentrify.
been to jail @ 111 center street
I’ve been stalked then chased by would be attackers with bats for blocks.
Been almost killed by trinitarios WITH MACHETES for wearing the wrong color green
Once saw a young hood crack an old white man in the jaw (spraying blood on me and other passengers) for telling the ***** not to SMOKE cigs on the 6. (that’s a subway train)
caught someone behind me trying to open my backpack going up an escalator
Shucks I even had a hit out on my life at one point (no bull) not fun.
When I would come home late from work, sometimes 4-5-6-in the morning, I would have to change my clothes to big baggy gangsta looking attire, and a hat, including adding some red which is the neighborhood gang color just so my white a$$ could blend in a little and make through the hood to my block.
One time coming home from work I was involved in a drug raid and detained just because I was in front of my building the same time the NYPD was raiding it.
I was ran over by a taxi cab twice,
hospitalized (at st lukes) once
Dose, you sound like a snobb

you said
“hoe many times have you been there *sshole? Im there twice a week for years – never had one thing happen to me….manhattan is an absolutly amazing place,”
yes Manhattan is absolutely amazing but saying NYC safe is like saying Los Angeles is not a ish hole because you work in Beverly Hills or the Palisades
or phoenix has no tweekers because the scottsdale mall has a Neian Marcus
or Houston TX is clean and safe and you live in River Oaks or Tangle Wood.
Dose, go out to Jamaica on the F, bring your wine and cheese to offer your mugger, or maybe he”ll take your smith & wollensky left overs.
The fact that you‘re so separated from reality tells you’re one of the elite.
Didn’t you call someone a Pu$$ie for not wanting to ride the train.
Does that validate your lack of masculinity because you ride the NR from Rockefeller to W 4th.
NYC is still tough and you are not.
Don’t sissify this concrete jungle because you and Tommy Hillfiger rub elbows at some swanky deli in soho.
Frankly if you haven‘t had anything happen to you it’s because you’re not having enough fun.
For a little while there were no hookers on 8th ave now,,,,,

Posted on April 12, 2012 at 9:07amyou do not hit girls because of the strength differential The same goes for children. That is until some use this as an excuse to strike the male with impunity. Some need to be taught a lesson. More violence is less. If one knows the penalty for doing something is at minimal a fat lip perhaps people will just be more respectful. When I was a kid if you did or said certain things you were guaranteed a physical reaction. Now I hear people say things that are unbelievable to each other with the expectation that nothing will happen. When it does elicit a physical response they are shocked. They guy with the pringles was amazing. Seemed to have a perfect feel for the situation.

Report Post »CaptainConservative
Posted on April 12, 2012 at 9:55amScrew that! If ANY adult hits me I’m hitting back! the ONLY reason a woman would hit a man outside of self defense is because she thinks she has immunity. I wasn’t put on this earth to be a punching bag for anyone.

Posted on April 12, 2012 at 10:00am@Lovingamerica
Unfortunately that‘s an archaic viewpoint that’ll get a man hurt or killed in today’s society. It was a fine way of thinking back when women were raised to be meek little waifs. But these days, women start throwing punches at least as often as men, and many of them aren’t particularly meek or waiflike these days either.
So these days, it’s ridiculous to expect a man to just stand there accepting a violent assault without defending himself just because the attacker is female. Just absurd.
Report Post »SgtB
Posted on April 12, 2012 at 10:28am@ LovingAmerica, You are wrong my friend. If another adult human being takes a swipe at me, I will retaliate in kind and end the situation and the attacker’s arrogance. Hell, I’ll even punch a kid (boy or girl) if they think they can take a swing at me. You must have grown up in a house without spanking or something because you obviously don’t know the effectiveness of a good thump on the head when applied appropriately.
Women today do not fear men like they should. Now, I’m not saying that a woman should be fearful of a man to the point that she cowers and hides, but enough fear to respect the fact that the man she is about to hit is a bigger and stronger animal in most cases than she is. When this respect for the male is lost, it puts the woman in actual danger. A woman should be able to stand her ground, but if she is going to physically assault a man, she needs to understand that the man has the right and the strength to defend himself.

What if her little bastards were standing next to her?
What if she only had one arm?
What if She was a HE?
What if she was pregnant , wielding a knife, hopping on one leg and on heart medication?

This was when the girl and my son were both 3. Her mother told my son he couldn’t hit her back. I told my son to ball up his fist and punch her right in the nose. That will stop her from using him as a punching bag. The mother had a fit, but…teach your daughter not to hit sons. If she hit him…he had a right to slug her.

Posted on April 13, 2012 at 12:34amMy self interest is always the priority. I do not know the skill level, intent, or if the assailant is armed. If attacked it is my obligation to my family who depend on me to defend myself. The Rule several have mentioned is not “never hit a women/girl” it is -never hit a “Lady”- A lady by definition would not attack me unprovoked so if a women attacks me she is not a “Lady” and I will defend myself appropriately.

Posted on April 13, 2012 at 10:21am@CLUBBER1 and a few others you did not read the whole statement. When a woman is bound to act like a man you defend yourself. It is just that in most cases the strength differential is so great that the actual threat is not as great. I might add this is not in all cases so you have to be flexible. It is a sad statement on society that this discussion actually has to take place. O yes, if she is pregnant or has her kids with her maybe she should be more protective of them and not get involved in a fist fight. I do not think that we know exactly what precipitated this and I am assuming the female was the physical aggressor. That might not be the case but was my assumption.

I kinda wonder what was happening here. He was following her? Was he just being friendly and trying to pick up a woman in public (and she got hostile), or were his intentions threatening? He seems calm enough. It seems like perhaps the woman was just very young and felt threatened by an older man talking to her, which is understandable, but there are better ways to tell someone to get lost.
