See Will Smith‘s Shocked Reaction to France’s Proposed 75% Tax Rate…After Just Advocating for Higher Taxes in U.S.

Remember when actor and comedian Jon Lovitz went off on President Barack Obama’s taxation policies? We’re sure you do. Shortly after Lovitz’ now-famous “bulls**t” rant went viral, Zombie, a blogger writing for PJ Media, posited the following theory: left-leaning celebrities are comfortable with taxation and “fair share” rhetoric — but only to certain a point.

Named after the famous “Laffer Curve,” Zombie calls it the “Lovitz Curve.”

And now Will Smith, a strong supporter of President Obama‘s call for higher taxes on the country’s top earners, may have found his “Lovitz Curve.”

“The Hollywood megastar enthusiastically preached the gospel of paying one’s fair share of taxes in a French television interview this weekend,” Business Insider’s Alex Biles reports.

“But when asked about his take on the tax policy of French president-elect François Hollande, Smith’s was shocked silly by the suggestion of a 75 percent tax rate on those earning above €1 million annually,” he adds.

[Author’s note: although it’s difficult to understand what Smith is saying because of all the crosstalk and the translation, his reaction at the 1:20 mark is unmistakable]:

As mentioned in the above, Smith isn’t uncomfortable with President Obama’s call for higher taxes.

“I’m very supportive of that idea,” Smith told The Associated Press in an interview. “America has been fantastic to me. I have no problem paying whatever I need to pay to keep my country growing.”

However, as posited in the “Lovitz Curve,” everyone has their breaking point. Apparently, Will Smith’s is Francois Hollande’s proposed 75 percent tax rate.

“At least [Smith] doesn’t have to deal with the prospect of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the French Communist Party candidate, whose 15 percent showing heavily influenced Hollande’s platform in the second round of voting,” Biles reports.

“Mélenchon ran on a promise to impose to marginal tax rate of 100 percent on those earning over €360,000 annually,” he adds.

listen closely, hear that? Was that astonishment? Disbelief? It is happening more and more. If Obama loses his celebrity base, and it looks like he may lose the election….then there may not be an election. It turns out that Obama‘s handlers have pushed him to show a bit too much leg lately and the wedge he’s been driving into our culture is becoming too apparent for American sensibilities. Somewhere there is a false flag attack on Obama being prepared, just in case he needs a reason to come down hard.
They can’t let the power go. They are not quite finished with their work.

Taxes today are at their lowest levels in decades, they are too low if you are going to argue that you care about the deficit. W.’s welfare to the rich needs to be repealed and tax rates returned to, at least the Clinton era.

@Encinom – Your bogus excuse for raising taxes is frivolous and has no merit. You claim to say that we have the lowest tax rate in decades but can you actually defend the excessive spending that government does? The real question is “Why does government need more money to spend?”

I wish you libs would understand that higher taxes NEVER solve problems, NEVER promotes job growth, NEVER creates economic competition to drive down cost, NEVER helps those contribute towards their 401k plans for retirement, but it ALWAYS contributes to corruption and the imbalance of power.

You tote around your liberal garbage and state the buzz word fairness, but fairness is only opportunity based and not the end result. You think government is smarter than you thus proving our point that you are too dim witted to understand that government should only provide basic, essential functions that exist for all and to stay out of commerce.

Thus endeth the lesson. Have fun blaming someone else for you problems.

While I agree we are still paying for W.s unfunded war because he had daddy issues and his unfunded give aways to the rich. History teaches that austerity doesn’t work. America in the 1950′s excelled under higher taxes and massive public works projects (i.e., the National Highways).

Government spending creates jobs, government spending infuses the market with captial. Tax breaks for the rich only fattens the bank accounts of fat cats.

‘Government creates jobs”. Honestly. Take a history lesson, or an economics lesson. The government cannot create jobs. The notion is completely silly.

All government‘s CAN do is ’force’ something. What they cannot do, is determine ‘psychic gain’—that invisible power that drives all humans to do that which is beneficial for themselves, or their loved ones.

Governments TAKE money, capital and labor, and expend it. Their are no ‘jobs’ created by this phenomena. None. Zero. Zilch.

This is something you really need to understand, because it underlies the illogic and irrationality of most of your ‘arguments’—which actually aren’t anything of the kind. They are more akin to a mob or a baby screaming falsehoods, and expecting to be heard.

The smartest members of the leftist crowd are fully aware of the evils and the lies that they perpetually commit toward our youth, our minorities, and our weak minded individuals. These people thrive in the world of politics and rule in the land of media. They form these lies into beliefs for impressionable people to latch onto. Will Smith isn’t a bad person in my opinion, he is just gullible and probably has an arrogant opinion of his own intellect which would make him susceptible to influence in the hollywood scene. Notice how much those in the media believe in what they say even if it doesn’t make any sense. Now think lower down the food chain, like enimacom, one of the idiots that believes that MSNBC is still reporting the real freaking news. Now think even lower, the all American welfare bum, this idiot will believe anything and will always vote for whomever keeps the foodstamps commin. The economy doesn’t concern the lazy idiots that are sitting out the worst recession we have had since the great depression while at the same time causing it. I work a 40 hour week on a shifting schedule and I can’t afford the food that I see people swiping foodstamp cards to pay for. Now they want to tax my boss to hell so that he will be forced to cut my hours in order to run his business without going bankrupt. This is so damn twisted, I can’t believe what has happened to this country….

      @ ENCINOM

The great depression was caused by Government, the FED, and FDR. True free markets and Private enterprise is what stopped the great depression in 1920, ever heard of it? Government was drastically cut, tax rates were slashed. The national debt was reduced by 1/3. The Fed stayed out of it. There was no “stimulus.” We let American innovation do its job. Thus, we got the roaring 20’s.

Can government create jobs? Sure. Is it possible for government to help and do good things? Yes. However, that’s actually not very common. The nature of GOVT. is to control. So while they may sometimes create jobs and “do good things” it comes with a price. Loss of freedom. Much of what they do is under the guise of “protection” or “in your best interest” in order to get people to accept it.

Factually speaking taxation is theft. If you feel like it’s not, then by all means give as much money as you want. However, do not force me at the barrel of a gun to do the same.

And the following idea can also be found in Obama’s book, “Dreams FROM My Father”, “Mélenchon ran on a promise to {impose to marginal tax rate of 100 percent} on those earning over €360,000 annually,” he adds. But that rate would have been imposed on all persons in Kenya “receiving Government aid”, so all those on Food Stamps, Section 8 or any Federal Assistance Program would have their earnings confiscated so that others could be served by the Government.

Even in the Book of Acts there was rebellion in the ranks of followers of Jesus when they were asked to sell their possessions for the survival of the group.

I don’t have a problem with WHAT’S being offered. I have a problem with HOW it’s being offered. A gun to my head to make me pay for protection. If a service is so good why use a gun? Does subway use a gun to make you buy subs? Taxation IS theft. What would you call a group of men and women with guns forcing you to pay them? Under threat and duress. Theft.
So by that you believe that a product or service should be offered at the barrel of a gun? Do you also force others to interact with you on a daily basis?

A citizen defined in Laurie v. United States is “A member of the body politic who owes a duty of allegiance in return for a duty of protection.” These obligations are reciprocal, meaning you do this for me and I do this for you. In Bower v. Devito the U.S. Supreme court ruled there is NO duty to protect anyone. So what does that mean? There are no citizens; if there are no citizens there are no states; if there are no States there is no United States. States are legal fictions anyways, they do not actually exist.

Doesn’t matter. That is YOUR opinion. Even IF that is “my duty” it does not mean someone should take a gun and force me to pay. Period.

Really dude, are you for real that stupid, I’ve watched you misquote historical fact after historical fact, you have not even basic understanding of American political or economic history. Do you even know the difference between a democracy and a republic. ( hint America IS a republic, guided by a constitution) . There was never n income tax in Washington’s day, and in fact did not exist until 1916 when a CORPARATE INCOME TAX LAW was passed (although never ratified by the required 2/3 of states for an amendment) . It wasn’t until after WW II ( the war started because of the failings of a big government to control people and create jobs … Called Nazi Germany) that individual income tax crept into our lives … What were you doing in school, sitting in the back with lead crayons shoved up you nose apparently . Move to France and let them support your dumb **s

They should make some law to where the libs can donate a larger tax on themselfs so they can feel good about themselfs. :) Also they should have a way to where the rest of us can choose how much of our taxes goes towards social programs. That and all lawmakers should only make what the average citizen makes for an income. This way they will be incouraged to increase the standard of living to all americans, and not just buying votes with promised welfare increases.

100 percent tax is slavery. Those with money will leave. Companies will fold. France will be a nation of few leaders and the rest on welfare. But the forces to create the WEaLth to pay for WELfare will be gone. So where are those who liked living for free off the work of the wealthy because they were too lazy to work going to get their needs for life? A self destructive chain of events planned by the communist leaders to leave them in total control of a nation of slaves. Only now the slaves will be those welfare recipients who would not work as the leaders will force them into work camps while grabbing all they can for themselves. So the formerly non working morons will be forced into slavery with their way and quality of life destroyed. All they had to do was get off their a55es and provide for themselves while the chance to save their country and their quality of living still existed. Instead they chose to occupy and demand what was not theirs while destroying their country like locusts. Was I talking about France or America? I can no longer tell the difference.

@Encinom – Government spending creates jobs? Huh? News flash—government cannot create jobs as jobs MUST come from the private sector to contribute to the GDP. Public sector jobs are created and paid for by tax dollars thus a net loss to tax dollars gained by the Treasury.

Government spending infuses the market with capital? Um, not even close. So you are telling me that giving my money to the government to turn around and give to others to spend in the free market is infusing the market with capital? That is ridiculous! Why go through all that trouble to declare a winner by government when the average daily citizen declares winners by their own needs and not the government’s. That logic makes no sense since the private sector creates wealth by supply and demand and competition will always lend to the consumer winning and not government declaring the overall winner by so called experts.

Also, FDR has setup this country for failure with his initiatives of Social Security and public works projects. He was an absolute failure with his New Deal which you tend to lean on by having government take over and “create jobs” since he instituted it for 7 years with nothing to show for and it just so happened that the war created a boom in manufacturing and also a distraction to allow PRIVATE sector companies to contribute part of their output towards the war. You see the DEMAND was met and all flourished which continued into the 1950′s.

@Encinom – If I am to follow your logic based on how government creates everything we need, then why did ALL forms of communist rule collapse or are irrelevant in all parts of the world?

I came to the assumption you are for communism as most liberals look to government to solve problems. The private sector works in cycles and the consumer is empowered to pick winners and losers and the government relies heavily upon those private sector people for ingenuity to create the industry. By the way, the government had nothing to do with the creation of the internet. State run schools had instituted this form of networking long before the government attempted to intervene and allocate funds. For the record, the government thought they would speed up the process by, once again, picking a winner to push through but in reality companies were already in talks with banks for pitching a network to be tied together for information sharing. The industry works IN SPITE of the government as the industry grows by risks being taken with investments and jobs being created to handle the demand for those companies. Government is void of responsibility as they don‘t create wealth so they don’t inherit the risk. Our tax dollars basically become gambling money for them to which the house ALWAYS WINS!

Ask yourself at what point should the government no longer be involved and how big does government have to be to take care of all our needs? Trick question, there is no sustainable answe

Anyone who can’t live on $200,000 a year doesn’t need it. I told her, I thought that was the American Dream, that you, too, could find an idea, or own a business or whatever and earn lots of money and retire early. As you said the internet was created by “State Schools” (who runs state schools, also you forget to mention the Pentagon’s investment).

The private sector can not regulate itself, plus the era of the Robber Barrons proves that unregulated captialism leads to a concentration of wealth and power with the few (their is a reason Teddy needed to be a Trust Buster, the market couldn’t do it).

Goverment funding throuhg the military, NASA and other agencies have led to advancments in medicine, technology, etc. Its the government with the captial to take the risks in new, unproven technologies.

@Encinom – Government regulation is just another term for government control. You love to boast that the government is the best in creating fairness and regulation but in fact they create less options and dependance. The private sector is the only reason we have wealth in this country. By virtue of consequence, why does the government avoid the need to vet itself upon poor investments when businesses are not afforded that same luxury? When the government screws up (which is most of the time), there are no consequences, but when a business makes a poor investment people get fired, businesses close and jobs are lost. I feel the knee jerk reaction is vastly slowed when a business must move capital in order to flourish but government will listen to 1-2 people on average to come to some decision and then fail, then never feel the sting, but the taxpayers do when thousands of these bad decisions are made over time to which we are currently in such a predicament.

For example, a business must go before a board in most publicly traded atmospheres to make huge acquisitions or investments. These are usually prefaced by long winded consultants giving presentation after presentation and then the bean counters must make sense of the costs, tax penalties and overall profit margin projections. Then borrowing from banks or pulling cash assets with collateral have to be planned.

Government version is a single vote or executive order or allocation….no thought and no consequence

@Encinom – The problem with you is that you have no experience when it comes to real spending with consequences. I, on the other hand, have been entrenched in decisions that have costly repercussions if they fail. I can handle the insults of regurgitated kool aid references to some author as I could care less. I was an economics/finance major and we spend our time looking over the comparisons of government investments and private sector acquisition/investments and both do not cross paths at all. History has shown that government reallocating monies is vastly a larger waste since the smartest people are always the ones who create the wealth as government is to benefit from them. That is in lame terms just to communicate it without confusion.

Earlier you stated the 50′s being a barometer of success with higher taxes, but you failed to understand what the actual taxes were that were higher. You need to do more homework then rely on your Matthews MSNBC degree that has only one point of view. The great minds of Friedman and Sowell have vetted the process of economic prosperity to equate to prosperity when liberals like to focus on fairness which has no end.

I also loved how you fell into my trap about the internet’s creation. Yes, state schools were the largest initial contributor to the invention to which tuition and bank loans started the process. The government followed suit after it was proven a success. Spiking the football, eh?

I know you’re just being sarcastic, but if the government wanted to be fair (and it does not want to be fair!), it would tax everyone equally. Those who make millions of dollars a year are spending it on investments and activities that enrich other citizens. To force even liberal Hollywood pukes (“punishing our enemies” is an Obama caveat) to send their money to Washington, D.C., where it will be wasted with no return on investment (Obama likes to call all his social welfare investing, but the only ROI we get from that is a bigger welfare population, not a bigger economy) is not a principle I would advocate.

Agree. Never cared much for Will Smith and his ultra-rich obnoxious family. Care even less since he started kissing obama’s butt. He should stick to the pretend world of acting. He knows little of reality. Write a check; support a needy family.

It’s not his fault, he himself is a BLACKMAN who didn’t go to college…I have no idea what the heck that has to do with anything but Will Smith thinks it’s necessary to imply it. He is buddy buddy with the Obamas you would think such a loyal supporter would be informed on what his good friend and his sociialist buddies are doing C’mon Will 75% is not that much… wait till it’s 88%.

What the heck is with those creepy French President pics at the end of the video?? I’m gonna have nightmares!!!!

If they can ask or take 75% of what the citizen earns, then there is not much stopping them from taking the other 25%. We can’t be this stupid but we are in fact this stupid. We will eventually get to where France is just wait and watch, makes not one bit of difference if the TP is running the country or not. The budget at this point cannot be balanced even if the entire US gov is shut down and taxes are raised to the 50% level for every working person. Thats why a balance budget is not proposed because it cannot be balanced.

If they taxed everyone at 90% the government would still run in the red. The problem not taxation it’s spending the more money given the more new programs there will be to spend it on. The government needs to be gutted all useless and unconstitutional programs wiped off the earth. Next the pay needs to be adjusted civil servents shouldn’t make more than their private employees counterparts. Congressman shouldn’t make more than the average private citizen salary. The Government employee‘s shouldn’t be given cars and gas allowances when private citizens don’t get them unless their emploment keeps them on the road. And even then the government vehicle should only be used during work hours. Not personal transportation.

Subtitles would have been nice when the French guys were talking. I did love the look on Smith’s face when he realized taxes are 75% in France.
