Seinfeld Actor Attacks Romney‘s ’Character’…for Misquoting George Costanza

Call it a desperate attempt to connect with voters or a benign pop culture reference, but Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney used a line from the popular television show “Seinfeld” during last night’s GOP debate in Arizona. The problem? He misquoted George Costanza, which led Jason Alexander, the actor who played the zany character, to lash out at Romney on Twitter.
Here’s how it happened: While introducing himself and briefly talking about the American promise, Romney received a rousing applause. Rather than continuing to speak, he said, “That’s good enough. As George Costanza would say, when they’re applauding stop, right?”
As BuzzFeed highlights, the quote was wrong — and to add insult to injury it was actually uttered by Jerry Seinfeld, not Costanza. Here’s the real quote from episode 172:
“Showmanship, George. When you hit that high note, you say goodnight and walk off.”
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time Romney has misused the quote. According to a Dec. 2011 CNN transcript, he also said, “Remember the George Costanza line? When they’re laughing and applauding, you sit down.”
Watch Romney deliver the most recent misquote, below:
Following last night’s debate, Alexander tweeted his response to Romney’s use of his former character in the debate. The actor took the opportunity to bash the candidate’s “character” as well:

Now, it must be noted — while Romney didn’t have the quote correct, he did capture its sentiment. When one is at the top of his or her game, it’s always good — at least according to the rule — to stop while ahead.

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 12:28pmnot that you’re going to read this Jason but, Romney only gets one take. Maybe you should cut him some slack and just be greatful to have been blessed with the talent and opportunity to portray a character that people remember and desire to quote. many actors go their entire career without that kind of role. I love the Seinfeld show and all it’s characters. I don’t demand that all cast members agree with me politically.

I now see Ron Paul supporters as sane compared to Romney Supporters.
Here is the Bishop…. No Teleprompter …. No Coaching… This is Willard !!! At his best being himself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHaMqHh5NZ4
What a leader he would be.
I saved the Olympics. Ha ha ha ha ha and the stupid Romney supporters think he raised his hands and parted the seas…. bad corrupt people on one side and nice honest people on the other…. everyone got along and the Olympics were saved…
No No….. Mittens just went to Congress and asked for some of that Tax Money they had.
Way to go Willard.. I could have bailed out the Olympics.. Willard Dumass AKA Mitt Romney

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 5:20pmHere is a test…….
Obama supporters don‘t care who is on Obama’s team as long as Obama wins… i.e. George Soros
Lets see how the Romney Supporters do…
Ron Paul has teamed up with Romney…….. Maybe to get Rand Paul a VP seat…. Google it, you won’t find it in Beck Land…. but it is the truth not the Agenda.
So, do you care that Romney would drop his ha ha Con Ha Conservative Val ha ha “Sever Conservative Values” to side with Ron Paul?
My guess
Romney Supporters would not care if Barack Obama was the VP as long as the Bishop became the next President…
See how much you care for the Country….. “I guess the Truth has, no Agenda” I don’t know about the Smear Machine here at the Blaze…

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 11:06amVery true. I found it interesting, not surprising that within minutes of the comment, the Huffington Post ran a headline “Romney credits George Costanza for his strategy.” How they connected the dots that way is just another example of the mental disorder called liberalism.

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 10:56amWell “George Constanza” was irrelevant in Seinfeld and he is still irrelevant. He was the most obnoxious character on the show.
So Romney, did not get it quite right, it is not like he is misquoting the Founders every time he speaks or misusing Bible quotes to suit his agenda. Now who would that be? Three guesses. Here is a hint it starts with O.

Posted on February 23, 2012 at 10:54amI enjoy the posts that basically say that this article should not have been on the Blaze – you know the ‘this is news?’ posts. Obviously you were interested enough to click on the article and then proceeded to take the time to post. There is no requirement to click on every article – move on if it doesn’t interest you because it may interest others. But if you did click on the article and determined it is a waste of time, don’t waste even more by posting what a waste of time the article is.
I liked the character on Seinfeld which does carry over into liking the actor. We don’t watch you for your political views, which are usually uninformed and meaningless, but your acting skills. I doubt highly this actor is in support of any Republican so his opinion has even less validity. It is like the MSM telling me who would make the best candidate to run against Obama – their opinion is hollow since I know their ultimate goal is in re-electing Obama.

If I like you and you speak out in a conservative manner I’ll likely never see you again. If I like you and you let loose with a bunch of liberal nonsense… I’m done watching you.
I don‘t know if I’ll ever forgive Tina Fey for what she did to Sarah Palin. And it’s not like I was a huge Palin fan, I thought (and still think) that McCain made a huge mistake by not choosing Condaleeza Rice as his running mate. Sarah Palin’s treatment and the corresponding pass that was given to Obama was, IMO, an indictment of the MSM.
