Selective Editing? New Romney Ad Bashing Obama Called ‘Deceitful’

When you first watch the new Mitt Romney ad set to air in New Hampshire, you may be moved by the flashbacks of Barack Obama making some big promises and even embarrassing statements on the economy.
“I am confident that we can steer ourselves out of this crisis,” Obama says in the ad as ominous music plays in the background.
“It’s going to take a new direction,” he adds.
Then this bombshell plays: “If we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose.”
Wow. Compelling? You decide:
But there’s just one problem: sure, Barack Obama said that, but he didn’t really “say” that.
See, the snippet used in the Romney ad referencing talking about the economy being a losing plan was actually from a campaign stop where Obama was quoting a John McCain staffer in 2008.
As HuffPo points out, here’s what Obama really said: “Senator McCain’s campaign actually said, and I quote, ‘If we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose.’”
So did the ad use selective editing? The Obama camp thinks so. The president’s reelection campaign spokesman Ben Labolt told HuffPo the Romney ad is “a deceitful and dishonest attack.”
But what about Romney’s team? Not so much. They have come out defending the ad and its editing, noting that they are just using the president’s tactic against him. They point to a blog post on Romney’s website (called Tables Turned) accompanying the new ad that notes the quote was Obama mocking McCain.
“Three years ago, candidate Barack Obama mocked his opponent’s campaign for saying ‘if we keep talking about the economy, we’re going to lose.’ Now, President Obama’s campaign is desperate not to talk about the economy.”
That’s a fair point. But it‘s worth adding that viewers of the TV ad don’t have the luxury of reading a blog post when it flashes across their televisions.
All that said, the ad could have other problems. According to Gawker, “it manages to encapsulate, in the span of one minute, the entire Romney ‘brand’: boring, wrong, nonspecific and slightly dishonest.”
What do you think?

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 11:03am@slackjaw79 I AM opposed to MANY things Obama has done while in office.
1) Misuse of the TARP funds.
2) Misuse of the 1st stimulation to pay back his cronies.
3) The ramming down our throats of the gov’t run/controlled healthcare. Pelosi’s vault over, climb under, whatever she said……….yes, they did it!
4) Calling Republicans the “enemy” during the last election. He’s been extremely partisan and divisive.
5) Obama has NOT stopped campaigning. While repeated assurances he would not rest, they will not stop getting jobs for Americans, solving our problems, he has played endless games of golf, basketball and AGAIN, LAST NIGHT after the failure of the super committee……they host ANOTHER musical event at the White House.
Obama has said all of the “right” words many times……..but his ACTIONS belie his words. He does NOT walk his talk.
His buddy, George Soros, is for the “managed decline of the dollar” (yes, thanks GB for that!) Obama’s actions IGNORE the fiscal danger our country is in which WILL decline (and has!) the dollar!
So don’t tell us Obama does what Republicans wanted. NOT this one!! His actions woke me from my naive “sleep”!

You wonder why we believe Obama is destroying our nation. A history lesson is in order.
In the last century, there has been 2 world leaders that has performed the same political moves as Obama. I’ll focus more on the second.
He promised the moon to people in a world-wide financial crisis (think Stimulus I and II). Got the unions to back him. (He later dissolved those unions.) He drove Christianity out of the schools, saying on Sundays the children will go to his schools. He nationalized the education system (think Dept of Education), which began teaching propaganda, not education. He nationalized the auto industry, saying his government would run it better (think GM and Chrysler). He nationwide the railroads (think AmTrak). He got his citizens to blame one class of people, then set out to destroy them. He introduced all manner of public-works programs, designed to put people to work – and destroyed his economy. He disarmed the citizenry, saying guns create crime (think “Fast and Furious”).
This man was Adolf Hitler. The other was Lenin, followed by Stalin. The only real difference between these men and Obama is that Obama is not invading other sovereign nations (oh, wait..) for his empire. This process has also taken more time so that the people won‘t realize what’s happened to them. Damn me if you like for comparing the “Chosen One” to Hitler and Stalin, I don’t care. I calls them as I sees them.

Had another bit to add about Hitler – the group he got cast out was the Jews. We are seeing this same antisemitism in our country right now with OWS. BTW, compare Hitler’s Brownshirts with the SEIU.. and his auto industry was Fiat. He stared Volkswagen after he was in office.

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 10:45amPeople like Mary Just are the reason we get little traction against liberals. No, the Republican Party has not put up the right kind of candidates because they would prefer to maintain the status quo (admittedly on the conservative side of centrist, but not by much). But what is the alternative? Throw in the towel? Run home and sulk? That is what she is suggesting. Why don‘t some of you folks that don’t like what is happening in the Republican Party CHANGE IT FROM WITHIN. If enough people ran for committee positions and state delegates to the convention, then perhaps we would gain more of a voice in 1)who is picked as the candidate; and 2)what the party platform says. The system is flawed, but it beats the Soviet one-party system at least by a measurable degree. Use the system instead of fighting the system and you will be very surprised how much more you can accomplish. Fight the system and it will grind you to ashes. It has been around too long and is too well structured to withstand feeble attempts to undermine it (as in third party candidates). Vote for a third party candidate or stay at home = either way the liberal movement wins. Stop with the criticism if you don’t have the guts to get involved and change things for the better FROM WITHIN!

Report Post »I was not a Romney supporter……I completely was against him and mostly because of Romneycare but after watching him on Hannity last night he is actually pulling me into his camp. When he explained the situation of Pro Life and how it was really was not a flip flop I agreed because this is probably something I would do. I don’t mind the way the law is now because I believe we have free will and individual salvation so it never bothered me that abortion was legal and some could interpret that as being Pro Choice but my choice would be for life. When faced with a decision while in office his pro life position came out. If I were faced with making decisions like the one he had to make then I would not allow legislation to go through and do the exact thing he did. It was not a flip flop. It was characterized that way. I believe he will overturn Obamacare and I believe he would be able to turn the economy around in the right direction. I think he may have the best chance of winning. He has been vetted and I don’t want any surprises there. IF THE AD USES OBAMA TACTICS then so be it. It doesn’t bother me because I am sick of Obama and the ganster government using those tactics so if they are getting some of their dirt thrown back at them….so be it.

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 8:48amThe Dumbocrats under Washerwoman Shoes have been doing selective editing left, right, and center. All the quotes from President Reagan, they are using to sway people being a prime example. Where is the late, great Paul Harvey to bring us the rest of the story? Why is no Republican giving the end of the quotes, especially about the debt ceiling increase….we, the people are still waiting for the $3 in spending cuts PROMISED by the Democrats when they struck the debt ceiling increase under President Reagan!!!

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 8:30amIn all honesty, Obama & his ilk will be far more dishonest as we will see. Let’s hope Mitt or whoever the repub. candidate is has sharp elbows and will scrap hard with Obama. I’m afraid we must use the tactics of the left , honor has no place with Dems. Win by any means, take statements out of context, create false stories and lie about Obama. Bring up O’s welfare/illegal alien aunt & uncle. Steal his school records to show subjects, grades, affirmative action, his education funding and accurracy of applications, school mates he toked & snorted with, date rapes suddenly remembered……like I said, SHARP ELBOWS will be needed. Don’t forget to mention what a male wh ore his father was as well as all the fraudulent docs. his dad filled out as he screwd his way through the western world.

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 8:56amAs Mom and Dad taught: two wrongs don’t make a right. Whether or not this ad uses the leftists’ own evil tactics against them is a mute point. I want our nation to be above deceit. I want a leader who wins an election by standing on strong, Constitutional principles. Let the truth stand for itself without editing snipets of Obama’s speeches. There’s plenty of material out there without doing what this ad does and which would make a better ad. For what advertising costs, is this the best Romney can produce?

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 8:21amWith all of the verifiable statements that have come out of the mouth of Obama I don’t understand why the Romney people think this ad does Mitt any good. It is deceitful and taken out of context.
I hate it when the MSM and the Democrats edit what the right, the Tea Party, politicans, pundits, etc. say and I don’t like it when anyone else does it either.
Truth is truth, lies are lies no matter who is doing it.

Posted on November 22, 2011 at 8:16amLOL I’m not surprised one tiny bit! This is one politician playin’ another politician.
This is one politician crying “foul” when what he does to others, is now done to him.
This is Obama vs. Obama Lite! LOL
I am no Romney fan, but I think this ad was well done. I didn’t find it boring.
It IS dishonest, but I am not sorry that Obama got a little taste of his own medicine.
And if ALL the candidates focus their ads on the factual dismal failure of Obama–we ALL win.
But I agree that it doesn’t need to be done dishonestly. There is PLENTY of factual information to use–there is no need for deceit.
But in a way this is good because perhaps it reveals ROMNEY’S true character!?
Folks, Romney is merely an Obama Lite model. Don’t be fooled by his supposed “slickness” and the fact that some thinks he “looks presidential.” Yes, he’s polished–he’s been a trained politician for many years!
Our country cannot survive another four years of Obama, but it also won’t survive four under Romney. He will NOT bring about the BIG changes we need–not just little “trims” here or there. The GOP establishment wants this man so much-because they can control him. Don’t be fooled. Romney is NOT a true conservative-if a conservative is what you want.
