‘Sellout!’ Pelosi Heckled at Cali. Town Hall Over Debt Ceiling Vote

When it comes to her vote for the contentious debt ceiling bill, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has some tough critics on her home turf.
The Democratic congresswoman, who claims she didn’t like the proposal despite voting for it, faced some jeers when she appeared at a town hall meeting at an Oakland, California. MercuryNews.com reports:
“Sellout!” someone shouted as Pelosi began addressing the crowd of about 900; shouts of “Tax the rich!“ and ”End the war!” punctuated her speech on job creation…When she cited the recent deal to raise the nation’s debt ceiling and cut the budget without raising any new revenues, a man angrily shouted, “Why did you vote for it?”
“Because default is worse,” Pelosi answered, noting that the deal at least protected Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.

AB130 passed on July 14th allowing illegal immigrant students access to privately funded grants administered by state colleges and universities. AB131 has passed the assembly but is waiting for action in the Senate Appropriations Committee. AB131 would allow illegal immigrant students access to publicly funded financial aid. Illegal immigrant students are already given one added break by allowing them to pay in-state tuition.
Yes, we are on our own out here and God help us.

Neither side had a choice. This is why Allen West voted for it also. Both sides are angry over this one.
One thing though, no one was in danger of defaulting, just not raising the debt ceiling. Those are two entirely different things. The only way we would have defaulted is if congress did not act to redirect the revenue coming in. That was the danger and that is what would have happened. It is a stalemate, I do not understand why people on both sides cannot understand that. Both sides will have to work together on this one. Neither side is capable of that at this point. So the can got kicked down the road…yet again…Maybe things will change with the next administration.
