WASHINGTON (AP) — A leading Republican senator is playing down the chances that a repeal of the ban on gays serving openly in the military will pass during the lame-duck session of Congress.
The Pentagon plans to release a survey on Tuesday that‘s expected to show that a majority of troops don’t care if gays are allowed to serve openly in the armed services.
The study is expected to set the stage for a Senate showdown between advocates of repealing the 17-year-old “don’t ask, don’t tell” law and a small but powerful group of foes. The House has passed repeal legislation.
GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina doesn’t see the votes to do the same in the Senate.
He tells “Fox News Sunday” that he doesn’t think the repeal “is going anywhere” in the postelection Congress.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 8:32pmThe survey that the Pentagon is planning to release Tuesday is slanted in order to give the results that they few want in order to repeal Don‘t Ask Don’t Tell. My husband (retired), son (active duty), brother (retired) & 2 nephews (retired) do not want this repealed & neither do any of the soldiers they know. All of the military personnel that I know do not want this repealed. Know the truth. I believe that this survey was addressed last week(?) on the blaze & it was exposed for what it was at that time.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 8:18pmAs long as you consider one group special (gays, hetros, blacks, old, young, rich, illegals, poor) then you will always have biaz, racism and bigotry. Stop making special rules. Treat everyone the same. If gays want to eat/sleep/shower with each others, also let hetros. You want rich paying higher taxes, let poor pay higher. Illegals commits crimes, don’t send them back, first make them serve multi-year jail time.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 3:22pmPatriot Daze I am not trying to justify any policy. Just point out that there are people who will use all kinds of reasons to disrupt the discipline of military service.
Report Post »That it is not JUST about serving but about controlling others.
I never said they should not serve, just that there are a lot of issues that the military has to deal with.
As I remember, since back in the seventies women were allowed to work at a job without having to suffer sexual harassment. I can attest that I was once fired in the nineties from a job because I complained about a gay woman who looked a lot like big sis kept brushing up against my breasts.
My boyfriend witnessed this in a public place and yet I was fired for ‘gay bashing’. I just said that I wouldn‘t let a man do this and I certainly wouldn’t let a woman do this. How is that gay bashing?
I didn’t miss the job at all.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 3:43pmSorry about your experience in the 90s, and there is no way to justify what happended to you. It is somewhat ironic, however, that the indescriminate and wrongful termination that befell you years ago is exactly what happens today to otherwise distinguished soldiers, albeit for a different reason, when it is learned they are gay. Their opportunities are sacrificed in order to make ‘others’ more comfortable.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 2:22pmMy dream is of a quick end to having Lindsey Graham as a US Senator. He has been wrong on so many counts.
Report Post »I just worry about the non gay soldiers getting charged with being perceived as purposely not saving the life of a gay one. If someone sees something distasteful in a tent and then the next day that person gets killed in action there could be ridiculous charges of bias, etc.
Does no one out there remember the explosion on the battleship about 20 years ago? USS Iowa?
Of course the rules against fraternization will still apply. But once again that nasty charge could still come up, you targeted us because we are gay.
Remember whining doesn’t stop because the law is changed they just change the tune they sing to.
PatriotDaze
Posted on November 28, 2010 at 2:39pmI must say, with all due respect, that I believe your are going to great lengths to concoct faniciful reasons to justify a policy that is discrimanatory at best. By the way, an idependent study concluded that the USS Iowa explosion was likely caused by an overram situation (no pun intended) in the turret, rather than a crazy gay gone astray.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 2:58pmMany military organizations around the world classify ****’s as psychologically unfit or relegate them to non combat units. They realize that these deviates are a real and present danger to units in front line combat.
Report Post »PatriotDaze
Posted on November 28, 2010 at 3:37pmTrue enough Braveheart, but most of the countries in this category are either former Communist states, or current 3rd world entities. The majority of advanced western/industrialized nations permit gay soldiers (UK, Canada, Australia, Austria, Germany, Francy, Italy, Ireland, Belgium, Seden, Spain, South Africa, Czech Republic, Israel, etc. etc.). So, for starters, I would presume you would support gays serving in non combat units? Y’know, where their ‘deviation’ wouldn’t represent a real and present danger?

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 1:46pmI think that the whole “Gay” verbage in itself is a scam. Let’s openly have an adult conversation about the actual acts that male homosexuals perform on each other. I’m sure that even some of those that support the rights of homosexuals would be revulsed by a graphic display or description of those acts. Whats next folks? I’ll tell you what is next. Openly practicing beastiality. necrophilia, pedophilia, S&M/B&D, coprophilia, anthropophagolagnia, mechanophilia and the list goes on ad nausium.
“Private, why do you have feces smeared all over your body!!!”
“I’m openly practicing coprophilia, Sergeant”
“oh, O.K., Carry on!”

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 1:20pmSenator Graham do you hear that sound? It‘s the same sound Progressive’s could hear over a year ago and they refused to take notice of it. We spoke loudly that we were going to toss them out on their rears if they refused to do as WE THE PEOPLE wanted. And YOU ARE NEXT MR, GRAHAM. along with other Progressive Republicans and Democrats. We the people are already working on the election of 2012 to clean out the House, Senate, and Whitehouse of the Progressive stench that has infected them.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 2:29pmWe the People…..my a**. By all means DWH, go after Graham for reasons based upon your belief in the founding principles……..but please acknowledge that the Consitution says nada about homosexuality, or gays in the military…..and as most clear about not establishing a religion which might find offense with either. By the way, upwards of 58% of WE THE PEOPLE believes DNDT needs to go. So, I guess that makes you One Of Those People! You lose when your anti-Graham sentiment is based upon this issue.
Report Post »dwh320
Posted on November 28, 2010 at 3:05pmPatriotdaza the constitution says nothing about speeding or about subjecting ourselves to government employees groping our children and grandparents at airports either. So what’s your point? I was clear in that Graham and other Progressive Republicans and Democrats better hear WE THE PEOPLE or they would be tossed out like those in November. As for your idea most Americans feel as you do and support your Progressive agenda then you just keep in that delusion. It will make it easer in 2012 to sweep even more of you out of power.
Report Post »PatriotDaze
Posted on November 28, 2010 at 3:53pmDWH, your argument is as shallow as your view of what constitutes We The People. My point was actually crystal clear: your claim of representing We The People is falsified by every major recent poll on the issue. You are one of the ‘other’ people when you aren’t in the majority, and when there is no Constitutional foundation for your position. You are welcome to sweep out every politician you’re capable of come 2012, but for the time being your position of this issue is in the MINORITY. Further, I am not a progressive….although I can imagine that it gives you comfort to believe so. It underscores, however, that We The People hold NO monolithic view….and is a figment of imagination. You think ALL of the Small Government/Low Taxes Tea Party people want Social Security eliminated?? Think again.

Posted on November 28, 2010 at 11:19amSenator Graham (R, SC) stated that the “Tea Party Movement” is unsustainable. Perhaps, that is just wishful thinking on Senator Graham’s part.
The fact is that it is that either the “Tea Party Movement” or Senator Graham will go the way of the Dodo bird.
A RINO like Senator Graham cannot survive in a nation of citizens that understand that FREEDOM RESULTS IN PROSPERITY AND THAT TYRANNY IS THE ROOT OF POVERTY AND DESPAIR. His statement proves that he understands his peril. Senator Graham’s early support of Cap and Trade proves he is an enemy of individual freedom (Capitalism) and a “Wannabe Peer.” RINOS like Senator Graham are more of a danger to the American Revolution than the admitted tyrants like Obama.
We the people will not yield to the tyranny of King George III even under “new management.”
