Would all who are saying, “Let’s be neutral,” please take a look at a map showing the location of Egypt. Note particularly the Suez Canal and learn about its strategic location. Ask yourselves if you’d like for militant Islamists to gain control of it.

I would imagine John that the average Egyptian does not give a rats ass what America can afford. When America finally realizes that these are sovereign nations and do not require our approval and we learn to mind our own business America and the world will be a much better place.

Anywhere the muslims have influence and power there will be bloodshed. The middle East Region is heading towards terminal melt down. With no diliberate restraining influence from the U.S. the inclination for violence and aggression is amplified. The muslims will try to capitalize on every unstable situation that presents itself and spread their brand of sheria peace and love as far as possible.

If we get more involved, isn’t that American imperialism, according to the Left?

I got a kick to hear we cut off funds to Egypt for democratization. Why are we doing that? I don’t mind foreign aid, within reason, to feed hungry people and clothe them. Plus the Peace Corps (does that still exist?) to build schools, help dig wells, and teach responsible farming techniques. And some military aid to support a pro-US stance in places where we might need a temporary base for operations in our national interest. Anything else seems to be meddling, in my view. We also tend to do it in places that have no history or concept of our ideas about liberty, human dignity, and inalienable rights. Culturally, in many such places, the very people we‘re trying to ’help’ are hostile to our values.

George Washington was right. We should be very careful where we make treaties and agreements.

Our founding fathers wanted us to be neutral. Over the years we have meddled into foreign affairs and often created more problems. We have supported this thug in Egypt for years. We have gotten him to do our dirty work. This cycle has been repeated in country after country. We need to let Egypt work out its own problems. We need to focus on the radical communist within our own country and government who want to turn us into Mother-Country-loving-commies with no voice.

What does he mean by, “We can’t afford another Tiananmen Square?” Does he mean the grassroots freedom desire against any odds that is held in high esteem by freedom lovers everywhere? Or does he mean the deadly authoritarian response to it that the Chinese reacted with? I think Senator McCain is so enamored with the fact that this journalist appears to think favorably of him that he loses track of his own train of thought and whatever convictions he has take a back seat to media admiration.

“As George W Bush always said,if given the choice, people will choose to live in a free society.”

I wish this were the case. Throughout history people have chosen autocracies and plutocracies, sometimes violent, oppressive regimes, knowing full well what they are choosing. History shows three important factors that we must understand: we don’t learn from history, freedom is not a universal value, and power is a universal value. These factors have been played out thousands of times over the last ten-thousand years.

Since our auspicious beginnings, Americans have always enjoyed National, Political, and Personal Liberty. We are pretty much where the citizens of the Roman Empire were when they made a choice to surrender their freedoms to the Caesar’s.

Lastly, the Middle East has always been the crucible of conflict and the graveyard of Empires.
