Sen. McConnell: WikiLeaks Chief Is a ‘High-Tech Terrorist’

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell is calling the founder of the online site WikiLeaks a “high-tech terrorist” for releasing classified material from the U.S. government.

McConnell says that the online release of secret diplomat exchanges has done “enormous damage” to the country and to its relationship with its allies.

McConnell tells NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he hopes WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will be prosecuted for the disclosures. And he says that if it‘s found that Assange hasn’t violated the law, then the law should be changed.

Of Assange, McConnell says, “I think the man is a high-tech terrorist.”

    Secrets keep our country safe. All this whining about transparency is infantile. What, do you actually think that we can just be open and honest with everyone. and we’ll all get along like some kindergarten class?
    You people need to come to grips with the fact that there are people who mean to destroy America. Some of those people call themselves our “friend.” I want people who are anything but palms up doing the work that while distasteful to some, is vital to our freedom. Like it or not, to keep what we have, we have to fight just as dirty as those who oppose us.

    So, Assange is threatening to release everything he has if anything happens to him. Does anyone think he plans to do anything but release it all in a slow drip, drip, drip, that will do prolonged and debilitating damage?
    Kill him now. Get all the data out at once, and the damage will be bad, but quick. After he’s dead, we can make him look like a forger, or a fraudster, or any other kind of discredited criminal. Remember, nothing is what it is. It’s only what we make it look like.

    What Wikileaks show is how piss poor our government and our press is. These self righteous progressives have about as much brains as an dry empty beer bottle ( being nice here). These progressives ( AKA democrats and some republicans) have shown them selves to be not only incapable of rational thought, but they are totality devoid of any creativity in dealing with problems. The solutions stare them in the face and they shut their eyes. Time to either ignore them as irrelevant or declare them without honor and therefore devoid of any authority.

    It has been said that pigs don’t know that pigs stink. The point is not that pigs are innocent, but that those whose perceptions and practices are lies and denials, stink, and are pigs. Pigs have legitimate uses, true, but lets not let them become government. And if they sneak by us we simply must clean out the wallow and watch much closer in the future. Now the pigs might perhaps be angry that they were identified as pigs, because of the stigma attached and the loss of the gravy train, but what exactly is the identifier guilty of?

    When he received his Top Secret clearance, Pvt. Manning signed a document that revealing classified information is punishable as treason. It is not up to him to decide what is or is not classified, or whether information is justifiably classified. Releasing the info is treason.

    With that said, I don’t think he is the one who released all of the information. He is the Lee Harvey Oswald of this generation. I find it hard to believe that an Army Private would have access to all of the State’s secrets…intelligence analyst or not. There is “need to know,” and he didn’t have it.

    Wikileaks is a terrorist organization, because the state department isn’t “high-tech” enough to secure their communications! It will be interesting to see the laws they try to create to prevent this kind of thing in the future all the while getting to suppress the 1st Amendment.
    I look forward to seeing how many Wikileak copycat sites will be popping up over the next few months. What will they do to silence those?

      McConnell’s reasoning troubles me. The Supremes said that what wikileaks did is not illegal. McConnell wants to make it illegal – disregarding the first amendment guarantees. Wikileaks could be considered part of the press, and it was particularly the press where free speech was guaranteed. When we have republicans wanting to limit free speech, I an concerned. We wouldn‘t be in the mess we are in if we truly had free speech and the press acted as a fourth branch making sure government doesn’t overstep it limits – rather than enabling the progressive’s mission.

      Yes and no. To expose lies and injustice perpetrated by the U.S., probably only a selected 10-20% of the documents needed to be published. That would have been news and action would have been called for by reputable people and organizations (even including the Tea Party members).

      This mass release was designed to embarass the U.S. and provide ammunition to other countries that may want to create diplomatic problems. Those countries who do not wish us harm (the more adult ones in Europe and Asia plus Australia) will blow these issues off since they say the same thing about us (just not published). There is some evidence to show that the thief who took the data was aided and abetted by some high ranking people in the current administration.

      This is some more “inside out” attempts to reduce America to a third world country. The world knows that the U.S. is the only thing keeping a “one-world government” from being created. We have all seen what happened when Hitler took over only one country. Imagine a “Hitler” took over that singular government that controlled the planet. Six million Jews would be a drop in the bucket compared to the genocide that would result. Furthermore, the earth is too big for one government, with its consolidated armies, to control. The world will degrade to a collection of regions actually goverened by well armed war lords. You think the American government is oppressive, you ain’t seen nothing yet.

      So before you give Assange any more atta boys, look to see what the other hand is doing.

      Conservative leaders in congress and elsewhere should be calling this a wake-up call and calling congressional investigations of the state department. It‘s not like there’s a shortage of evidence to back up such an investigation; and, it wouldn’t be the first time news was used as a precursor, or even presented on the record.

      I am not sure where Mitch is going with this. His words don’t sound very conservative.

      Speech is speech first.

      Unless he deliberately endangered lives; by, releasing classified information to an enemy without warning anyone in advance, or shared dangerous tech with a foreign adversary, it’s hard to see where he has done anything wrong.

      Hey Mitch, news flash, you can’t pass a law banning free speech; and, if you did, SCOTUS would overturn it, eventually.

      Hay Obama, Clinton, et al, if you don’t want your junk published, don’t share it with WikiLeaks.

      The kinds of corruption revealed by WL is exactly what a free press is supposed to be all about.

      As far as relations between nations go, it’s high time someone brought their shenanigans to light.

      The truth is often inconvenient; but, it is also, often, needed to fix broken systems.

      Have any of you read the “Terrorists” releases? I downloaded them and spent a few hrs a day looking thru them and so far I have learned we wanted to know LOTS of background on various world leaders and diplomats. The State Department at times seems like a Jr High girl’s journal, the mean ones not the nice ones. So far the most interesting I have come across is almost every Arab nation wants us to invade Iran ! Of course they would publicly denounce us IF we did want the want. I have not come across anything that interesting so far, but have not read them all by any means. If the news reports are correct, 2.5 million federal employees had access to this information. If that is true, this is fairly unimportant information. There maybe more to come but so far pretty much ,so what?
      One question, IF, IF, a document was found that showed GW knew there were NO MDAs, would you want to know? Or prefer to believe a lie? Likewise if information showed GW had what was thought to be excellent information and honestly felt the preemptive attack was needed..would all those who believe GW was a evil doer shut the hell up? We can’t arrest him for treason, not a US citizen, not really spying…but if the sex charges are TRUE, nail the per to a wall…Merry Christmas!

At first glance it is a closed case… however, think about this for a moment… Julian Assange is an “Australian” citizen. There for he is not an American. From what I can see he’s just a journalist who shined the light on the dark. And I thank him for exposing our weaknesses. The American citizens who is the leak should be dealt with accordingly.

      If he is extradited to America to face charges in a court of law, then let him have his day. Then if he is found guilty, the punishment will match the law on each charge as appropriate. Unfortunately this is one case other than handling and transmission of classified materials he could be convicted of many things.

      We can coordinate a virus on the unplugged Iranian reactors, shut down websites that sell knockoff handbags, attempt to confront Chinese cyberattacks on Pentagon mainframes but don’t have the ability to disrupt Wikileaks when warned of there exposure months in advance.       He’s no different than an intoxicated father who takes his family up on a mountain road and loses control. He survives even though the family goes off a cliff. Then Dad takes a cab home and sleeps it off.

      I couldn’t disagree more with McConnell, Palin and the others and, I’m VERY conservative. Think back to, Daniel Ellsburg. Do you really want to give the government the right to keep everything from us?
      What has been released just futher proves what I already knew, Obama is a gangster-thug. Personally, I look forward to future releases. How dare this admin and the republicans try to stop the truth from getting out. I‘m sure everyone of these politicians told them to never say anything you don’t want repeated. Too bad none of them listened to their mama.

      Normally I’d bet we would agree on 90% of the issues. Here I disagree. Some things are better left unexposed. The first thing that came to mind after reading your response is Yemen. The Yemeni leader tells his people that they coordinate the al-queda bombings while secretly allowing US drones to do the dirty work. There is a balance that must be maintained to uphold our allies in this war and the disclosure is a threat to this alliance.

      I’ll take the p.o.v. of the Yemenis themselves before I listen to you. I read a comment on another blog, in which a Yemeni was expressing his RELIEF that these lies by the corrupt DICTATOR of Yemen (over 32 years in power), had been exposed.

      This is about one freaking tyrant, Obama, giving his pal a hand. I know for a fact that while the Red Muslim was still a senator, he became heavily involved in helping Odinga, his Marxist buddy, get elected in Kenya, so his secret military intervention in Yemen may be in pursuit of the same goal. Things are not always what they seem, especially from the outside.

That was part of the disclosure and if you believe in undermining documents which include revelations of Afghan sources, who have aided our efforts, to the enemy, go right ahead and support it. I’m not supporting Yemen but it is not a major international incident condemned by the UN when we invade their airspace a the behest of the government in charge. At what point should documents of international political value be classified? Does this improve our trust or image worldwide? This is an anti-war disclosure and frankly, anti-American. What will this do to our diplomacy now?

      I fiercely criticized the first dump, which indeed compromised our war efforts. I voiced my anger and disgust then, and it is precisely one of the reasons why I now agree with THIS dump. NOTHING was done about Assange when it really mattered. This is about Obama saving face, and if you cannot see that, then join the Republican party in playing the useful idiot.

      Do you want OBAMA’s image to be strengthened? Ours, America’s, is badly damaged. You seem to believe we still have our Republic intact. In just two years, Obama has managed to erode our allies’ trust in America, and he has become the laughing stock of our enemies. Obama has used the Marxist-controlled UN to undermine America. He joined the UN Human Rights Council to bring charges against Arizona, as well as to help Muslims attack Israel and Islamize Europe. Wake up, man!

I knew people that got killed in that building so I have followed evrything about the attacks that day.       Again your assumptions betray you. I never said I supported the UN and it would make me happy to witness the removal of the anti-American platform from US soil. It does have a few positives to its cause however. I really didn’t see how this helps the future of diplomacy??? In case you forgot, Obama won’t be president forever. THIS dump does not help our country period.
      Your logic suggests it is better to further isolate dictators regardless of the aid they are providing us in this war. In case you didn’t know, the US works with many dictators regardless of the party in power. We will need some support from the other side of the world unless you think we should occupy all of it. Here’s a hint, it will not work our well.
      I’d like to believe Obama would be separated as the image of America in 2012 or sooner. Do you honestly believe this leak will strengthen our, America’s, image longterm? Who needs to wake up here? I agree with most of your comments but you still haven’t mentioned a word about America, which to me, is not Obama. I can appreciate your disagreement with everything Obama is doing to destroy this country but any agreement with these leaks is suicidal. Frankly, any support of these leaks is akin to the liberal socialist mentality much of the world has which is why Assange is such a hero to you. Did Obama not go far enough left for you? If you want to keep believing in the independent vote I’d suggest donating to Howard Dean or a relative of Perot. Let me know how that works out for you.

They want us to go to war with Iran, our people to die in a war that the Saudi’s need to feel safe. Yet they are Mr Money for terrorists to kill our soldiers. Let them fight their own war! Why fight Iran at all, they would not be a problem had China not armed them! And what about Obama….You want to meet Obama, take at Gitmo detainee first. The United States of America should not be blackmailing countries, its Obamas JOB to meet with other nations!
      Obama is so dirty he stinks. I want to know whats going on. I don’t care to know war strategy and such, but this stuff I wanna know! And let the Saudi’s fight their own war.

      I wish for Obama’s embarrassment worldwide and at home as much as the next conservative, republican, etc.. The leaks are juicy and mostly BS. Who gets to determine what is leaked? For instance the North Korean missile sale to Iran should have been headline news but then that source might mysteriously disappear. That would give us a disadvantage longterm (BEYOND OBAMA) on gathering information. Although it sheds light on snippets of info that many people were already knew I have yet to hear how this helps America’s foreign policy.

      My assumptions may be wrong, but at least I didn’t call you a leftie. That remark was so unfitting, it cracked me up. I did mention America in my comment, but it did not resonate with you because you view Obama as an ephemeral nuisance that is somehow detached from America’s present and future. Thus to you, my focusing on Obama means I am disregarding America’s well-being. With all due respect, I think you are in a state of denial, since you will not contemplate the possibility that Obama might have enough power to re-elect himself indefinitely. You think/hope that like other incompetent presidents in American history, he too will pass. I believe you underestimate communism, but I hope you prove me wrong.

      You are right that we have helped dictators in the past, and the rationale for those unholy alliances has always been, as you mentioned, to protect our interests in a given region and/or fight a war against a mutual enemy. My logic dictates to me that we need to treat our allies kindly, and woo those who will not sting us in mid-river, like the proverbial scorpion stung the frog. In this case, my experience tells me we should not trust that XXing commie dictator in Yemen, and definitely not the one currently residing in the WH.

      This dump will not strengthen us, but as I say in another comment which you supposedly read, Obama is sinking our ship, America the Beautiful, therefore any info we can get on this traitor is appreciated. So thank you, Assange, although if I were to pick myself a hero it would be Glenn. When this nightmare is over, we will repair that which was broken, so help us God.

      I apologize for lashing out at you. Seeing a member of our military “agree” with the Obama admin is disconcerting to me. My hope is that the military will protect America from tyranny. Peace.

      McConnell and the rest have completely forgotten about the real thief that stole the files and now sits in jail. If everyone would pay more attention to him, maybe we could put a stop to this kind of stuff. I would put Wikileaks in the same boat as the New York Times with regard to revealing U.S. secrets. I don’t like either one but if it is OK for the print media to publish than it should be OK for the internet media to publish.

      On the other hand, some of these government lies need to be out there.

      Tower7- Beck’s audience is hopefully warming up to to how far things have come in terms of the NWO.
      It is closer and more coordinating than Beck is able to talk about. Beck had to start somewhere w/o scaring people as the scales fall from their eyes.
      I just hope these lovely conservatives evaluate the indictment of Assange. The U.S. is guilty. Incitement of Assange’s murder for “terrorism” is frightening. Principles are so easily scrapped when danger is merely PERCEIVED.

      Patriotdave- there is a possibility 9/11 was an inside job. I know people that have been killed too. Sentimentality and emotion don’t change possibilities. Some are just easier to swallow if it makes you feel better. Isn’t it easier to think some horrible jihadist did it rather than our own government? Interesting argument that is for sure.
      Our government willing kills it’s citizens everyday by failing to have full disclosure “for our own good”. I’m sick of the elitism.
