US Senator: ‘I Don’t Know a Single Small Business‘ That Will Be Affected ’By Tax Rates’

“We don’t have a tax problem in this country, we have a revenue problem.”
So was the message on a panel entitled ’98 to 2: Raising Taxes to Invest in America and Promote Fairness’ that took place in Washington last month. The panel was made up of progressive researchers and politicians all waxing poetic over the best way to sell tax increases to the American people.
In the exclusive clip below, a question is asked from the audience concerning creating a liberal “counter narrative“ to the effective conservative ideal that ”taxing the rich kills jobs and hurts small business.”
“The Republicans are very effective at using the ‘taxing the rich kills the job creators, it kills small business who creates lots of jobs,‘ and she’s asking where is the push-back from our side? Why don’t we have our own effective counter narrative to that?”
Guy D. Molyneux, a panelist and partner with Hart Research, answered by lamented liberals loosing the messaging war over the “tax issue” and suggested that “most people” don’t but the idea that the rich create jobs.
“Republican argument really is not persuasive to most voters. They do not buy the idea that most people who make over $250K are quote ‘job creators,’ unquote.“
Molyneux continued to discuss his views on the American public and taxation:
“They do not buy the idea that it’s going to have a substantially negative impact on the economy to raise taxes on people at that level…there is a certain superficial plausibility to the idea that higher taxes is more likely to be bad than good for the economy, and it takes time to explain why that’s not necessarily true in this case.“
Molyneux made a final point in closing, noting that the rich get “goodies” in our society and that Republicans can’t compete with an argument against “fairness.”
“It is overdue for the wealthy to pay their fair share of taxes, and as a country we simply cannot afford to keep handing out new goodies to the richest people in our society. That is a much better point for us to be arguing, and for them to try — because Republicans really have no answer to that.”
Democratic Senator Whitehouse from Rhode Island chimed in, adding that he did not know a “single small business” that would be effected by tax rates:
“What works well for me at home, I don’t have this, you know, poll-tested…I say, look I don’t know a single small business in Rhode Island that is going to be made or broken by tax rates. What’s going to make or break small business is whether people are actually coming through the door to spend money, whether they have customers.”
The panel was a part of the greater Take Back The American Dream Conference in association with Van Jones. This conference

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 12:48pmHe probably very seriously believes that. That is the problem with liberals. When pathological lying becomes so entrenched in your everyday life, you forget that there is indeed a difference between truth and lies, fact and fiction or correct and incorrect. When truth is inconvenient to liberals, those that can still perceive the difference, they simply ignore it. After a while they can’t tell the difference and join the fold. Mental disorders are a terrible thing.

Already companies are dropping health coverage because of cost increases leaving employee’s to find their own. My job raised cost up twice since Obama became president, share of cost on emergency services from 100 to 1000 and Dr visit from 10 to 35 medication from 5 to 20. next step is to drop it all together.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 3:02pmPROGRESSIVES (LIBERALS, most DEMS) are skilled liars. Their total belief is like the Muslims “The END justifies the Means”. There is no such thing as “lying being a sin” to them.
Report Post »Decent Americans don’t share those flawed beliefs.
Decent Americans are busy working, taking care of their family.
Decent Americans are not expecting someone else to do their work for them.
Decent Americans don’t expect other people to feed, clothe, house them.
Decent American would NEVER make up faux fact to try to prove their point.
PROGRESSIVES know this, and like the Muslims who take advantage of our Freedom of Speech -
in order to ENSLAVE US, they will say anything, do anything, lie about anything to reach their GOALS.
I don’t know what makes ANY of these dopey people think they have ANY ANSWERS that we need.
Seems to me that since THESE PROGRESSIVES have taken over: Crime (Gangs) have exploded; Health Care has been Ruined; People are DIVIDED unlike never before (except the CIVIL WAR); People are 3 times fatter than they were; More people are on drugs/booze/illegal drugs than ever before. THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS. They do NOT believe in GOD – a Father GOD who will teach them, guide them, they can turn to and Who Loves Them. They may say they are “Spiritual” or “Believe in a Higher Power” …. and still go about their daily lives as if they are totally in charge of their lives, oblivious to the fact that we have a FATHER in HEAVEN who LOVES US !!

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 3:14pmI get a stack of resumes every month. And do you want to know why I’m not hiring the number of people I would like to?
First, because I can’t justify minimum wage + Social Security + unemployment insurance + health insurance + OSHA training + ADA + payroll + overhead for an entry-level position. For a $16,640/year job I have to actually pay out almost $32,000/year. For a mail / copy clerk.
Second, because the little sh!ts either can’t show up on time, don’t show up at all, can’t pass a drug test, or have such a sense of entitlement that anything less than a corner office is beneith them.
If this senator can’t do the simple math I just did, he needs to be a fry cook, not a legislator.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 3:19pm“They do not buy the idea that most people who make over $250K are quote ‘job creators” Of course we don’t because it is not true. Ok let’s go slow for those who live on sound bites. DEMAND creates the need for and increase in the supply of products and services. Investors such as mutual funds, union pension funds, individuals of all economic levels provide capital to enable businesses to hire workers to meet the need for higher supply. Small businesses invest some of their own money, borrow money from the bank (which is really depositors investing again). The notion that the wealthy wake up every morning and say “i’m going to create more jobs today” is the kind of stuff you expect from Sarah Palin and M. Bachmann. Not people who actually use their brains.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 5:56pmPerhaps the good Senator would benefit from a course in elementary business accounting?
REVENUE MINUS EXPENSES (including TAXES) = PROFITS
According to the equation, If the expenses go up due to paying more taxes, profits must go down; and, with the decrease in profits, any chance of expanding the “bidness” and creating new jobs is diminished.
I would suggest that the Ayatollah Obama at least audit the same course!!!!!

You have a need for something, J? Do without or create it yourself. Don’t expect others to create it for you and then dictate how much of their earnings they can keep. You’re not that smart or valuable.
JRook: “The notion that the wealthy wake up every morning and say “i’m going to create more jobs today” is the kind of stuff you expect from Sarah Palin and M. Bachmann. Not people who actually use their brains.”
A little slip there, I think. That’s what you think they should do, right? They should not be in it to make money, but to provide JRook with a great job and a comfy life, while allowing J to control how it all happens.

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 7:12pmJrook, you are nothing but a progressive shill…demand is an economic term meaning people want a product, okay. Where do people take that demand? To shops, stores, etc…who owns those shops and stores? Businessmen/women do. Guess what, those businesses hire employees…which are jobs. Those people take risks and are rewarded in guess what…dollars. Now most small business people make a good bit of money for their efforts, a lot make $250,000 or more…imagine that? guess what, when you raise taxes on those people, what are they going to do? Fire employees, and the number of jobs goes down, unemployment goes up. Small business’ creates 70% of the jobs in America…get an education.

My taxes, ALL OF OUR TAXES will be raising, medicare taxes are rising and so are self employment taxes. 21 new taxes will be forced on America. 75% of America is OPPOSED to Obamacare. 75%!!! Congress acted against the “consent of the governed”. Congress acted in violation of the Constitution, bent and broke the rules of Congress, lied and bribed to pass this unlawful bill. 75% of the biggest tax increase in WORLD HISTORY will be placed on Americans making less than $150K a year. You know who is exempt??? Illegal aliens and muslims. Hmmmm!!! Yes this biggest tax increase in world history will hurt my small business, and the economy. The cost per employee will increase which will mean the cost of goods and services will necessarily increase. The second biggest tax increase in US history is slated for Jan 1st, 2013 if the Bush tax cuts (current tax code) are allowed to expire. Dont be fooled. They were not only for the rich, They included tax cuts for the middle class, deductions for children, etc.

I frankly cannot handle the insanity anymore. I feel like the governments atm at every level state city and federal. I have had it these people are bleeding me dry

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 2:38pmYes, tax rates do have a lot to do with customers coming through the door. If I pay more in taxes, I have less disposable income. If I have less money to spend, I buy less, or not at all. DUH.
Report Post »Therefore, it is a no-brainer that business declines when taxes are raised.
If costs go up on small business (increase in taxes, govt fees) their bottom line is negatively impacted. That causes them to raise prices–which may mean fewer customers, or to accept a lower profit margin which may delay or prevent expansion and the hiring of more workers…
No country ever taxed itself into prosperity and a higher standard of living.
If taxes have no impact on small business, why not make taxes higher than ever? Tax at 90%. Tell me what happens to the economy then? The ignorance of some people is astounding.
If you disagree, just go back and read President Obama’s comments on raising taxes (during a recession) when he signed the extension of the Bush era tax rates.

that is a theory, but it is the longest running Republican lie out there. WE have been hearing for 20 years that if we just lower taxes, business will do great- lower taxes increases the governments income.
The problem is that there is no proof of the theory and the thing that really matters- actual data shows the opposite. Business and the economy have done best with higher tax rates. Historically this has been true for a long time. Booming economy with 90% top tax rate- how do you explain the. It has happened. Lowering tax rates for the last 8 years has killed the economy and jobs. I’m not claiming that increasing taxes increases jobs (although it might), just that tax rates have historically been irrelevant in predicting the economy.
Nobody plans their business based on tax rates.
Historically, that Republican lie is nothing more than a zombie at this point. Clearly, it is not true, but it refuses to die
WHERE IS THE PROOF?

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 11:39pmdogdr, you spew a pure unadulterated BS. The only way that your bottom line is not affected by tax rate is if you solely depend on business with government. You simply adjust prices/rates accordingly and taxpayer foots the bill for a $100 hammer.
As for the Bush tenure, you need to look at the unemployment rates. By the mid term, the rate was below 5%. It shot up the moment the Democrats took over the House, and further rose under The Won.
Report Post »The 2008 financial collapse was due in part to unsound economic policies endowed by Democraps (FF/FM and toxicity of derived securities) and by a group of entities that took a keen interest in political intervention by massive withdrawal run on the markets on Sept 19, 2008. Their desired result–Obamination rule, took the nation in the direction they liked for their long term goals.

Apparently you skipped out on or slept thru the Econ requirements prior to vet school. I always thought that vets were smart people, but you just proved me wrong. You have no clue about economics and you spew absolute partisan nonsense. Let me educate you please: Every time tax rates of any sort go UP, tax revenue to the government goes DOWN. You don’t have to look very far to find that info for yourself but you might have to venture out of you comfort zone so turn off CNN, MSLSD, NBC, ABC, CBS or whatever other propaganda factory you’re listening to. And while you’re at it, be thankful you’re a doggie doctor in this country, and not any where else on the planet because in no other country do veterinarians fare as well as here. Funny thing about prosperity. It allows for people to have and care for their pets.
Now, go learn something about the way our economy works and stoo giving veterinarians a bad rep!

So then, march yourself on down to the unemployment office, get the attention of all of the freeloaders standing in line, and tell them to create their own damn jobs!
This is America . . . they already have exactly the same opportunity to stick their own necks out, just the same as I did!
