Senate Blocks DREAM Act

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans have blocked a bill to grant hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children a chance to gain legal status if they enroll in college or join the military.
Sponsors of what they call the Dream Act needed 60 Senate votes for it, but fell five short. The House passed the bill last week. It was a last-ditch effort to enact it before it Republicans take control of the House from Democrats in January.
Immigrant advocates viewed the measure as a step toward providing a path to legal status for up to 12 million illegal immigrants by focusing on the most sympathetic among them first. Critics called it a back-door grant of amnesty that would encourage more illegal immigration.

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 12:35pmNow it’s time to deal with sancuary cities. Level them and the liberals will just run around in circles with no direction. As for our countrys’ invaders, the border will continue under attack. Invasion is an act of war is it not? Snipers?

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 4:57pmAmen, CROSSDRAW and the quickest way to get a liberal’s attention is to cut-off ALL federal funding until they stop violating the law. If they still refuse, cut off all federal dollars to the respective state. And as far as the border is concerned, build machine gun turrets high atop guard towers. Arm them with twin .50 caliber machine guns and that border would be tighter than a snare drum in no time.

That would save hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars in rental and maintenance of these foreign bases, our tax money paid to foreign governments.
Then put the 50,000 troops on the Mexican border to seal it off and keep out the aliens and drug smugglers. Take advantage of drones, FLIR cameras, CCTV and every other advanced technology to spot and capture the illegals Use the money saved from the ending of the foreign base rental to complete and strengthen the border barrier fence.
We can accomplish this BUT it will take a Congress and President with the guts to enact it.

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 12:19pmWhat is the problem with the Dream Act? Are all of you really of the opinion that people that serve in the military that are not citizens don’t deserve the right to GET IN LINE? That is basically what the DA is offering. Brought to the US as a child, NEVER get into trouble, go to college or military, WAIT 10 years, pay fines and fees, then, and only then, do they get to wait in line for citizenship (typically 3 to 5 years).

Report Post »Read the actual bills, they actually had no mechanisms in there to ensure anyone met any of the requirements before they “became citizens”. It was a Trojan Horse, since when under law is a child defined as up to 35 years of age. If that is the case, then anyone on this page who has children would be legally responsible and liable for any of their children and their actions up to 35 years of age. That is aside from the moral and societal obligations of parents to their children.

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 2:06pmAliens who enter the United States LEGALLY and possess a documentation of legal entry and who enlist in the military CAN obtain citizenship. It happens many times a year on bases in the USA and in Iraq and Afghanistan.
It’s the ILLEGAL part of the equasion which is wrong. You don’t award a bank robber half his take if caught, you don’t reward a METH cooker his profits after arrest and I hope you would not reward a rapist who violated your wife or daughter with a coming home party after he got out of jail. Rewarding illegal immigration amounts to the same thing. Oh, and by the way, America is the only country which has the law granting automatic citizenship for a child of immigrants born here legal or not. It’s an antiquated law which was enacted to provide citizenship for the children of African-American slaves who were up to that time were considered non-citizens. This law should be repealed. No other country has such a law and the illegals are taking advantage of it and us the taxpayers.
LEGAL immigration is the one and only way to citizenship. My great grandparents on both sides of my family entered legally through POEs in NY and Chicago and took the necessary classes in English, History and then the oath of citizenship. That path is open to anyone who wishes to avail himself or herself of it.

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 2:48pmThe problem I see with this strategy is that at present we have an all volunteer military. Once people are told they have to join as a matter of condition is weakens the morale and willingness to fight. So let’s say someone joins the army then has a change of heart and goes AWOL. According to the terms of fulfillment he/she and the family should be deported. So then the libs will all run to their aide and fight to keep them in the country. Now you’ve diluted the intent of the bill and once again chipped away and weakened the military and the country.
So the next logical step is to just let them go to college. And they’re paying for that how? Also, since there are so many immigrants do they get precedence over my kid? How about aid? Since the government now owns 98% of college loans will they decide to give someone trying to meet immigrant status preferred treatment over an American kid whose worked hard to get good grades and deserves the seat and the loan?
All this bill does is cloud issues so they can have unfettered access to citizenship and buys votes. And buying votes is all any of this is about.

The open-border, anti-American “One World Order” advocates; not to mention millions of illegal aliens have been trying to pass the DREAM Act for ten years; and every time it comes to the floor, we manage to slam it down! Why? Because no matter how much open-border advocates try to “bend” the truth, most Americans can differentiate between right and wrong.
There is a right way to enter this country and a wrong way to enter this country. Our lawmakers should not be rewarding millions of law-breaking illegal aliens at the expense of law-abiding citizens.
This is a major blow for Barack Obama, global corporations, global unions and “special interest” groups, but a major victory for the law-abiding citizens and immigrants of this country and a message to the rest of the world…

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 1:44pmIt’s good news this abomination of a bill failed. Nevermind it would have rewarded people who are crimminals, by virtue of the fact they are here illegally, but it would have also been a slap in the face to every person who has gone to the time and trouble to become a citizen legally. Now we just need to eliminate the concept of “anchor babies”, round up the illegals and escort them back across the border. Maybe those thousands of jobs they have should go to hard working Americans, who would do anything for a job right now?

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 1:50pm10 little known facts concerning illegal aliens: 1, more than 43% of ALL food stamps are given to illegals. 2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegals. 3. Less than 2% of illegals are picking crops but 41% are on welfare. 4, More than 66% of all births in California are to illegals on Medi-Cal paid by the US taxpayer. 5, Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties in the US are illegals. 6, More than 39% of California students grades 1-12 are illegals. 7, 75% of L.A.’s Most Wanted are illegals. 8, More than half of all gang members are illegals. 9, US companies using illegals takes away a job that an AMERICAN CITIZEN could and in these economic times WOULD DO!!! 10, US tax payers are footing the bill for ALL illegals. Moral to the story boys and girls? We “The U.S.A.” cannot be all things to all people, especially those that would DEMAND preferential treatment and scoff at our laws whilst doing so.

Dumb question but what is wrong with giving thanks? Whats wrong with having an appreciation that you don’t know it all and that there may be a higher power no matter wht it is called?
Seriously?

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 2:51pmThanks to everyone who bombarded their congressmen and senators. I emailed my republican senator late last night, after the bill had passed the house, asking him to vote NO. Thank God it is stopped at least until the new guys on the block arrive in January.
I am convinced, and always have been, that the USA is God’s country and that we the people must stand up to any attempts to undo the country, whether it’s something comparatively small or something huge like the Omnibus spending bill and Dream Act and stopping obama. In all things we must do our part, do all we can, and God does the rest.
Blessings on everyone!

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 4:32pmYes, God prevailed. God also prevailed by letting the Senate block passage of a bill to provide medical help for 9-11 responders who are sick or dying from injuries sustained by those heroes. Funny how there was no report of that on this website.
Way to go Senate. And God, if this is your work too, way to go.

Posted on December 18, 2010 at 7:35pmJake1, reread my reply to demgirl. Your answer to question 1 is there. The answer to your question 2 is no. No demands regarding issues of religion are coming from me. Demgirl was asked to stop demanding that everyone bend to her wishes. That’s a very reasonable request and if you and wash1776 could read and comprehend better, there wouldn’t be any misunderstanding.
Wash1776, please don’t melt down on us. Demgirl’s demands to thank her god do not take into consideration the religious perspectives of others. After reading my reply, she may think twice about that type of thing in the future. Your rude and emotional response is unwarranted and unnecessary. Collect yourself and reflect on what I‘ve said and you’ll be the better for it.

They think we are stupid America! Their excuse is “But we can’t blame the kids who had no choice” But then the same kids if they are rewarded citizenship would just sponsor their criminal parents and furthermore their extended family so they would ALL become citizens. This would only send a message that you win and are rewarded for breaking the laws of America and would only encourage even more illegal immigration. I could hear it now in 5 more years, but what about all the children who have been brought to the country by their parents these last 5 years illegally we can’t punish them, and the amnesty never ends.
Next up, we must DEMAND that Birthright citizenship for foreign citizens be taken away. As soon as the new congress starts we must press for this until it is passed! Stop the Foreign Invasion of America NOW!

So, their parents brought them in for all free medical, dental, schooling, subsidized housing, food stamps and now our government wants to give them more freebies?

My glass is half empty on this as we have elected officials..errr..taxpayer dependants that supported this. That is reason enough to oust them ASAP!
@BeckIsNuts – Democratgirl said nothing that would imply that I HAD to believe the way she does. She is just voicing her belief in full. If you don’t like it, keep it to YOURSELF. She wasn’t criticizing you or anyone else, but just proclaiming her belief. If you were Muslim and praised Allah for this decision, then that would be your right and I support it. What you say doesn’t in any way affect my decisions as I am an independent thinker void of influence from any blog site and I have my established belief that I keep to MYSELF! Also, you got way off topic and no one gives a crap about what offends you! Save that PC jargon for HuffPO!
