Senator DeMint Goes After ‘Anti-Business’ White House, Defends Tea Party

Earlier this week, while sitting in for Sean Hannity on FOX, the inimitable canuck Mark Steyn interviewed Senator Jim DeMint.
The focus of their conversation? They spoke about what is on everyone’s mind: the downgrade, the debt ceiling fight and Washington’s spending problems.
However, Steyn went a step further and took the time to address how Democrats have since reacted to the S&P downgrade. He began the segment by showing a video of top liberals blaming the Tea Party, of all things, for S&P’s decision to downgrade the United States from a AAA bond rating to a AA+ rating.
In the video montage (featuring the likes of Howard Dean and David Axelrod) are such memorable quotes as “The fact of the matter is, that this is essentially a Tea Party downgrade,” and “They are totally unreasonable and doctrinaire and not founded in reality.”
After the video introduction, Sen. DeMint not only addressed the ludicrous claim that the Tea Party is to blame for America’s fiscal woes but he also took the opportunity to voice his opinion of Obama and his seemingly anti-business administration.

Are you for real? Next time you decide to give Presidents credit or blame, take a minute and find out who controlled Congress during their administration. Reagan fought tooth and nail with a Democratic Congress to bring spending under control. The only reason there was a “projected” balanced budget under Clinton was due to the fact that the Republicans gained control of Congress during his second term and forced it on him.
Obama had a super majority in both the House and the Senate during his first two years, and did nothing about the financial crisis, but make it worse. The Republicans have had control of the House for only about six months, and yet he wants to blame them for all the problems he never faced, but waited for them to make the plans so that he could then ridicule them for not “compromising”. There was nothing for them to compromise over. He didn’t present a plan.
When you look up “hypocrite” in the dictionary, there should be a picture of BHO, the Hypocrite in Chief.

Posted on August 9, 2011 at 7:29pmActually Clinton had no choice on balancing the budget as the republican Senate held the pursestrings to the government and were responsible for much of the budget balancing. The Pekosi/Reid senate of 2006-2010 increased national debt by nearly 1/3… So compare who is more fiscally responsible. It will be necessary for the GOP to gain full control of the Congress and control the pursestrings again and the age of Bush/Obama big govt/big spending can come to an end

Posted on August 9, 2011 at 8:12pm@Italia…You’re correct. The budget WAS balanced during the Clinton administration, but it was the Republican Congress led by Speaker of House Newt Gingrich who pushed Clinton to balance the budget. Clinton fought but eventually gave in. Isn’t it ironic how Clinton now gets the credit for what the Republicans did? Typical. If Obama was smart, he would follow the Tea Party’s lead, so he too could be given credit for turning the economy around. (But he’s surrounded by all the wrong people and is a know-it-all who will never admit to being wrong.)

Posted on August 9, 2011 at 8:34pm(ITALIA) Perhaps you need a lesson on U.S. government! The President (be it Reagan, Bush, Clinton or OhBummer does not and can not create either a budget deficit or surplus. CONGRESS is the branch of OUR government that controls both spending and taxation. During Reagan’s term there was a deficit run because the democrat controlled congress (Tip O’Neil and friends) passed Reagan’s tax cut package but NOT his spending cuts package! On the flip side Bill Clinton wanted no parts of a balanced budget, until the REPUBLICAN controlled congress forced him (after three vetos) to sign it! Now, don’t feel bad for your obvious ignorance, most American’s think the President is to blame or get credit (that’s the way the liberal education system wants it).

Their reasoning (Obama and progressives being anti-business) is totally FLAWED.
Doesn’t the Bible instruct us to “Come, let us reason together.” ?
Well, we know Progressives and liberals do not read the Bible.
Excessive regulations and taxes defeat the business principle and will therefore:
1. Force businesses to find other avenues, such as:
a. Moving businesses overseas or to an area where the tax burden or regulation is lighter.
b. Tighten their belts by laying off employees.
c. Hiring illegals because of cheap labor
d. Create hostile environments for business and employees
e. Pass on their expenses from regulations and taxes to consumers.
f. Create a black market for goods and services bypassing the government.
g. Force businesses to close their doors because they cannot compete or stay in business
because of those high expenses.
Finally, these are the results of the devil and its evil on good commerce and good people.
IF YOU allow anti-business entities, whether government, unions, political parties, or evil to run this country, YOU DESERVE WHAT YOU GET.
ONLY the American people, the majority of Americans, have the POWER to change what they do not like or see. If you do nothing, then you deserve nothing.

Also, Clinton lowered defense spending, had it not been for that, this country would have been more prepared to intimidate the terrorist cowards that caused the events of 9/11 to occur in the first place. I would also add that it was also under Clinton that the Glass-Steagall Act was repealed and allowed investment banks to act as commercial banks and start using the Federal Reserve as their means of borrowing taxpayer dollars to speculate in the markets, which in turn led to many of them becoming the ‘too big to fail’ banks that they were referenced to be during the economic collapse when they housing bubble finally burst. Not to mention the Monica Lewinsky scandal, there are many reasons why despite Clinton creating a surplus – he created many much bigger problems which led us to this disposition we’re at in the first place.

1) For every second of all 8 years of Reagan’s 2 terms, The Democrats controlled Congress.
2) Furthermore, in 1982, the Democrat Congress raised the debt limit while promising $3 dollars is spending cuts for every $1 dollar increase in Taxes -a Promise the Democrats never carried out.
Lying and making false promises which never come to fruition (IE OBAMA!) are what the left must do! Why do you think that the Left controls our school systems? They must, so to ensure that actual, fact based history is not taught- Therefore. ignorant nitwits like you can support conartists like Obama, who promise policy outcomes proven not

Posted on August 11, 2011 at 10:39amFixing the financial crisis of the U.S. government is a totally achievable task. First, let’s start with the fixes necessary to get the U.S. government back to fiscal sanity. Here is a brief and do-able list from leaders across the nation:
1. Move to a two-year budget process instead of the current annual budget.
2. Freeze ALL federal spending increases across the board immediately.
3. Roll back all federal spending to 2009 levels.
4. Freeze all non-military federal hiring immediately.
5. Stop all implementation on the Federal Health Care takeover immediately.
6. Pass a balanced budget Constitutional Amendment with an effective date of 2014 to give the feds and state governments time to make adjustments.
7. Roll all educational spending back to the states and local communities and eliminate the federal role in funding education. (The people who don’t like their schools can fix them at the state and local level.)
8. Pass an energy bill that takes the shackles off of U.S. energy resources including coal, nuclear, oil refineries and in particular shale oil and gas reserves.
This list could go on but the point is clear. America can get her house in order but only IF we take one critical step first: We must keep working to send better people to Washington, D.C.

Report Post »It is just ASTOUNDING how many people think those of us that are BEGGING them for REAL spending cuts are THE PROBLEM!
FACT: Regan’s “Supply Side Economics” got us out of the malaise of the 70‘s and we DIDN’T GET the spending cuts he was promised!
FACT: Clinton vetoed a balanced budget plan, allowed the government to shut down in ‘94 and ’95, finally agreed to a budget deal, the economy rebounded and HE took credit for balancing the Budget AND leaving a SURPLUS!
FACT: Conservatives fought the Pelosi/Reid agenda during the Bush years and the massive deficits STARTED when they took over Congress!
FACT: We SAID that The Stimulus wouldn’t work, and that Obamacare would bankrupt the country.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
When your payments are past due, your creditors think it IS that simple — they want cash, and they want it in a timely manner.
Same for the United States’ creditors: They do think it is as simple as sending them the money we owe them, NOT sending them “word” that we’ve made some spending “cuts”.

I used to be a Democrat and was full of all the talking points about how the Republicans are evil and don’t care about old and poor people. I believed their lies, until I started learning the facts. After a while, I realized Democrats twist the facts to make themselves look good, and their actions don’t match their words.
Over time, I’ve discovered that my Republican friends are more responsible and tend to help other more than my Democratic friends, who tend to have a lot personal problems. I love them all, but I trust my Republican friends more than my Democratic friends.

And look at the horrible things he did to the health insurance companies, forcing legislation on them which will, in turn, force us to give them our money and at the same time not raising corporate taxes, despite that being one of the main reasons for the recent rating downgrade.
Surely, a terrible environment for business.

Barry couldn’t get cap & trade passed in congress so he just bypassed congress and gave the useless EPA the authority to label co2 a pollutant and regulate and tax it.

Posted on August 10, 2011 at 12:22amYou are right, the “evil corporations” who help to fund the politicians on both sides did fairly well. You see they have entire teams of accountants, lawyers, IT guys etc that they alreadyconstantly retain to deal with the government crap that keeps coming down the pike.
Unfortunately, the small businesses who employ the vast majority of this country, have now had to pay extra to deal with it, lowering the amount of money that they have availible to expand, hire and grow thier businesses. Business hates uncertainty.
So you go for a loan, hoping to maybe open a new store, the banker says what are you putting up for collateral? You respond your existing business. What are your projected revenues for the next 5 years? he says. I don’t really know, you say. If they increase what I have to pay into the unemployment fund because they have extended it again, and then increase my taxes, raise the minimum wage I hear, maybe raise my SS contribution and then there is medicare, that may go up too, then there is the new regulations for the healthcare law, EPA stuff keeps changing so I may need to buy completely new equipment and oh, the cost of my supplies keeps going up due to inflation…well I really can’t say! Well, the banker says to you, I really can’t say that we have any money to loan you today. It is not all about the $ you bring in, it is how many $ you have to put out to keep growing without over extending yourself

Libmarine thank you for your service. Here is a fact lost on most people – if you confiscated all the wealth property, land, homes, savings – every penny of each person who earns over 200,000 per year would bring in $250 billion dollars. That will run the Government for about 35 days. In addition those people would be living on the street penniless. Once you take from them you will see unemployment jump to about 20% because they hire people to work.
We have a spending problem – not a tax increase problem.

Posted on August 9, 2011 at 6:06pmWhen playing “Tug-of-War” it is common for the flag to move little when opposing teams are pulling with the equal strength. Historically Democrats have insisted Republicans compromise which they were happy to do time and again. Inevitably the flag has moved a long way in the Democrat’s favor. In 2010 the citizens spoke with their vote – “We want a fiscally responsible and smaller government”.
During the continuing resolution and the debt ceiling debates we saw a small number of determined freshmen representatives resisting the Democrat’s pull. “Tea Partiers” aren’t obstructionists, but rather “Resisters”, resisting the growth of government. Because of this small but stronger representation on the conservative side of the “Rope”, Democrats are no longer easily winning the tug-of-war.
In 2012 it is crucial we elect people who will add strength to the conservative side of the “Rope”. If a few strong and principled people can slow the trend towards more spending and bigger government, then with a few more like these we can overcome those whose policies are preventing America from being a great and prosperous nation. We can move the flag our way and preserve our great nation, our liberties and freedoms. It’s ours to lose.

Posted on August 9, 2011 at 6:39pmYour confusion is understandable, because you’ve been told only part of the story, and you need to do more research. In 1981, Ronald Reagan signed the Kemp-Roth Act, which slashed tax rates across the board, mostly on the highest wage earners and corporate tax rates. The Kemp-Roth Act lowered the marginal tax rate for top wage earners from 70% of every dollar they earned in the top bracket to 50% of every dollar.
In 1982, Reagan made a deal with congressional liberals to sign the TEFRA (Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982). What you have left out is the element of the deal, specifically that Reagan an agreement out of congress to cut $3 of federal government spending for every $1 of tax revenue raised.
. Yes, TEFRA represented (at the time), the largest increase in peacetime tax increase, but this was after he had already passed a 23% tax cut on the wealthiest Americans and American businesses.
Since you were obviously too young to really remember Reagan, you’d not know that the economy did pretty well under him. The truth is, even after accounting for TEFRA, there was a net cut in tax rates.
