‘Sexual Battery’: Teen Wrestler Charged After Using Controversial ‘Butt Drag’ Move

A 17-year-old California boy is being charged with sexual battery after performing a controversial wrestling move on a teammate during practice.

Preston Hill, age 17 of Fresno, drew the charges after performing the “butt drag,” a submission move where a wrestler places his finger between his opponent’s buttocks and tries to turn him.

But Ross Rice, father of the alleged victim, said Hill took the move to the extreme.

“This kid basically targeted my son, pinned him to the ground and assaulted him,” he told KABC. He said his 15-year-old son was painfully penetrated for at least 30 seconds by his teammate’s fingers during a wrestling drill last year.

Hill, however, says it is a legal move that he was taught by his coaches.

From KABC:

“They’re sweating and grappling with one another,” said Charles Magill, Hill’s attorney. “There is a certain amount of give and take that‘s involved when you’re in that type of an intimate sport. We defended by saying that the conduct that he’s alleged to have done is overblown and completely out of context with what happened.”

Encino’s Crespi Carmelite High School wrestling coach Mike Odman says the butt drag is a legal move, but he would never teach his students to penetrate an opponent with their fingers.

“There’s nothing in wrestling tactics that would say when in doubt, insert,” Odman said. “That never comes into play.”

The case may eventually come down to if Hill premeditated the move and intended to harm the alleged victim. Ross says Hill made a threatening gesture before the two wrestled, but Hill denies that. A doctor’s report does say that the alleged victim was slightly injured as a result.

It’s unclear what will happen to Hill if convicted. He is, however, currently suspended and facing expulsion. The trial was originally scheduled for this week but has been delayed until January so the prosecution can investigate the incident further.

Gays butt drag also called San Fransisco butt drag is all to do with penetration

Ok, wait a second. First, I have been doing this stuff a LONG time. Wrestling, Judo, even trained people for the UFC. I have NEVER heard of shoving your fingers up someones rear end for any kind of a turn over. In High School Wrestling there are NO submissions… so, and with pun intended, this story smells as much as the kids fingers must have…..

It isn’t a submission move, its a control move. You’re on your back, someone on top and he’s trying to scooch around to the side for a pin. You grab right between his buttocks and stop the turn. Its legit, and 20 years ago when I was wrestling it wasn’t “frowned upon”. But nobody on my team ever did it because it was gross. As mentioned above, I saw it used very successfully in a tournament.

This is big news in Fresno where I live. The thing is the Hill kid was quoted in the local paper as saying he did it to the other kid (who is an underclassman) to encourage the kid to wrestle with him because he wasn’t moving. That was also just a practice and not during a match. This is why the local DA is going after the kid. There was simply no reason for the kid to do it other than to mess with the smaller kid. Didn’t watch the video because I know about the case but it should also be mentioned the kid has been expelled from school.

You could grab a guy by the balls and move him into a submission position also but there is a “man code” to all gentlemanly sports. If anyone has ever see the South Park episode where Butter keeps accidentally shooting guys in the balls. “Butters! You don’t shoot men in the balls!! It is totally uncool!”. The people commenting on this story have had me crying from laughter. Thanks.

The coach said he wouldn’t teach his kids to “penetrate an opponent.” Glad that sodomy is not yet acceptable as a wrestling tactic, but they are in CA, so it’s only a matter of time before it is. That kind of rule change would make wrestling the most popular sport in San Francisco.

This is a dirty move and is very frowned upon. It is also an illegal move for the fingers to be inserted. To me, yes the 17 year old should be punished, but the coach and the school also need to be held responsible. It is also my understanding that this may have been a case of bullying as well.

The Butt Drag is a legit move. I wresteled in highschool, and we learned it, but none of us used it. I saw it used once at a tornament, and it works well. Totally appropriate move, though kind of nasty to watch/do.

That said, if someone thought they had license to use it and thought they could get away with being a bully with it to harm someone, I can see them “digging in” (as it were), to cause pain. Normally, you just put your hand there and hold on for dear life while someone tries to pin you.

You may now giggle and laugh at me, I’m used to it :(

I was a wrestler in High School. We called it a “goose.”

I can’t tell you how effective it is, mostly because of two factors: lots of nerve endings, and a hole in the pelvic bone that gives you the ability to gain leverage.

This is literally nothing new, since this hold has been a part of freestyle wrestling since ancient Greece and Rome.

The guy who had the move performed on him was also taught what it is, why it works, and likely used it before, as well.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

      @jds7171

More likely they guy that did it wasn’t too weak to turn him over, the guy probably got shot on & got his legs taken rather than sprawling. Now the “offender” is on his butt and trying to fight not to have the takedown without being able to use his legs. The “offended” probably had the offender’s legs trapped, then the “offender” goosed him to get him to loosten up on his legs so he could use his legs to get the takedown.

That’s the scenario that happens most often.
