‘Shalom Sesame’: Did You Know Sesame Street Has a Jewish Series?

Amare Staudemire Teaches Hebrew, Jake Gyllenhaal Talks Afikoman

With the NBA lockout over and a new season starting in just a few weeks, New York Knicks‘ 6’10″ power forward Amar’e Stoudemire joined Shalom Sesame to teach kids the Hebrew word for “good”:

In the video released last week, the Knicks superstar defines the word “Tov” which means “good” in Hebrew. Stoudemire explains how you can use “Tov” when saying “Good Morning”- Boker Tov, “Good Night”-Laila Tov and even “Congratulations!”- Mazel Tov!

Staudemire believes he has “Hebrew roots” through his mother, and the basketball player has traveled to Israel, has tattooed Hebrew phrases on his body, and according to his agent, is a “student of history.”

The video is for Shalom Sesame , a series created by Sesame Workshop over 25 years ago that released 12 new episodes in 2010. The series features Sesame Street muppets traveling to Israel to learn more about Jewish culture and the Hebrew language. ShalomSesame.org offers games, videos, activities and printables, focusing on the Jewish holiday cycle, Jewish values, Shabbat, Israel and Hebrew language.

Their is nothing greater than learning something new, especially something positive. Itis the greatest gift we can give children…kept your child free from the horrors of man as long as possible. Give them the time to just be children.

I enjoy learning about other cultures….even if I do not share their beliefs. I’m an Atheist who supports Israel because they are the best ally we have in the Middle East!

I work in a company where one of our clients is Jewish media. Pretty much a small print publication aimed towards jewish readers.

Since 2005 they’ve had ads for Shalom Sesame Street. You can purchase volumes of the series.
Its also in both english and hebrew. Lots of familiar characters are on there but there’s also new ones.
Its pretty much the Jewish equivelent of Veggie Tales.

Sesame Street is also in other countries too, and in their native languages as well. SO no surprise, its a Jewish Sesame street, nothing more, nothing less.

And of course the so-called Palestinians have a knock-off of SS which teaches their little cherubs cute little songs with verses that translate “First we kill the Saturday people, then we kill the Sunday people.” That was on MEMRI.

Is anyone really surprised that the media constantly pushes the culture of 1.7% of the total population?

Your criticizing an Jewish show that is broadcast in Israel as being part of a conspiracy? And as for your link, Jews are known for being an overrepresented minority in a number of areas. But instead of trying to compete with them, people like you see Jewish success and decide that their success must be evidence of a larger conspiracy. Some blacks say the same thing about whites. Your allowing envy and prejudice to corrupt your objectivity.

Hey, I grew up in Kansas just loving Bert, Ernie, Grover, Cookie, Rosevelt Franklin–and my fav, Oscar. I know they love the liberal movement and all, but at 5 years old; I didn’t care. I still love the puppets–I hate Elmo, he’s a Sesame Street Occupier, I think. Anyway, love the puppets, don’t care for the whiny crap they push these days.

That sounds better than the Scuzlim series they have in the middle eastern countries where they teach the little children that Jewish people are pigs and dogs. Its true, they do have it.
