Shame Them: NAACP Appeals to U.N. Human Rights Council for Help Fighting Voter ID Laws

Leaders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People were in Geneva this week appealing to the United Nations Human Rights Council for help in fighting voter identification laws in the United States.

NAACP President Benjamin Jealous was part of the delegation to Geneva arguing that laws requiring voters to show ID violate civil and human rights by suppressing election participation, particularly from minorities, USA Today reported. Currently, 30 states have voter ID laws, seven of which were enacted last year.

The U.N. has no authority over American states, but Jealous told reporters last week part of the goal is to “shame them.”

“The power of the U.N. on state governments historically is to shame them and to put pressure on the U.S. government to bring them into line with global standards, best practices for democracy,” Jealous said, according to NPR. “There are plenty of examples — segregation of the U.S. to apartheid in South Africa to the death penalty here in the U.S. — of global outrage having an impact.”

He hoped the NAACP’s presentation would spur members of the U.N. to come to the U.S. and “look at the impact of these laws, look at the intent, and actually render their recommendations about what actions we should take with regard to these laws.”

Proponents of voter ID laws say they cut down on voter fraud and point out that Americans are often required to show identification to do even the most basic of tasks. Opponents say obtaining a valid ID can be time-consuming and expensive, and disproportionately impacts minority voters.

The NAACP has been at the forefront of fighting such laws; this week, a Wisconsin judge ruled the state’s law was unconstitutional, and the Justice Department blocked a law in Texas from taking effect. Last month, South Carolina’s attorney general filed a lawsuit against U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder for blocking its state voter ID law.

“Shame Them’: NAACP Asks U.N. Human Rights Council to Help Fight Voter ID Laws”

There’s one reason and one reason only that the anti-white NAACP doesn’t want voter I.D. laws and that has to do with their widespread voter fraud, which they have promoted and encouraged for years now.

The reason is perfectly obvious, but still these black miscreants are so arrogant they really believe they can spin their reasons as valid ones. Only an absolute fool would believe them.

They had best worry about the deteriorating economy, because that will do more to radical racist and liberal causes than any voter I.D. law that might be enacted.

Sorry, but if an individual in the USA needs an ID to buy a beer or cigarettes, then voting ought to make you responsible to bring 2 forms of ID, Birth Certificate first then a State issued photo ID.

You know, just from an academic point of view, I find it amazing just how utterly stupid my fellow Americans turned out to be. We had the Left’s strategy laid out before us on a platter by Glenn Beck and Andrew Breitbart.

Texas is also one of those States and I can assure you this State is going to fight back – the UN is not going to come into Texas and force this State to to a fricken thing.

Anyone not responsible enough to get an I.D.,or too, lazy to get an idea has no business voting PERIOD. Having people of that caliber vote is quintessential to giving dogs a vote. Fact is anyone whose living their lives off the hard work of those who pay taxes shouldn’t be voting as well ID OR NOT.
The systematic corruption of welfare electorial bribes has to stop. Representation belongs to those who are taxed. We reached the point where those consuming tax dollars are out voting those who pay them. TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION IS A UNAMERICAN

Only the uninformed are shocked that the NAACP is an anti-American organization. It was funded and founded by left-wing, communist supporting Jews… I know, this fact will be labeled antisemitic, but the truth is the truth. For the first 70 years a Jew was president… still antisemitic?

The only African American among the organization’s executives, Du Bois was made director of publications and research. W. E. B. Du Bois was an admitted communist and actually departed America because he hated it.

Voter ID laws are a solution to a non-problem. No one has convincingly demonstrated that the extent of fraud is such as to justify all the fake outrage, or that voter fraud favors either major party.

That said, it is perfectly reasonable to require a standardized voter ID with picture in every state. There is still plenty of time to set up a voter ID system before November, and I would expect both parties to do their best to see that everyone above 18 with a pulse gets one, which will probably favor the Democrats.

I once lived in a town that was over 75% black, and many were friends. My wife and I went in to vote, and we were both handed multiple ballots. After convening with my wife, we thought it best to return all but one. When we did, they were astonished, dismayed, perplexed… . I say they, because everyone of the polling people were black, and they all knew what had been done and what we had done.

Anecdotal, but I’m sure that it is still going on today.

Llyod- If it is a non problem as you put it, why worry about it? Remember ACORN registering the Dallas Cowboys in Nevada, people in Indiana and Illinois unable to vote because people had already voted using their names, DOJ telling cities that they must identify the candidates with a D (emocrat) so the minority voters would know who to vote for. Motor voter allowed anyone getting a drivers license to become registered voter, no check to see if they are illegal. Ballots in Vermont given to people using the names of dead people in the last primary.

I have absolutely no problem with requiring photo ID, EXCEPT that due to federal law against a poll tax, it will be necessary for the government to pay for IDs for those who do not have them (approximately 11% of citizens of voting age).
