Shark Attack Survivor ‘Luckiest Guy on Two Legs’

Australian Man Survives Shark Attack With Merely a Few Scrapes

Not everyone walks away from a shark attack with just a tetanus shot — or walks away at all for that matter. But a lucky Australian man surfing off the coast of New South Wales did just that, getting off with just a couple bite marks on his leg and a chunk taken out of his board.

Australian Man Survives Shark Attack With Merely a Few Scrapes

Stephen King only got this scrape on this leg from a recent shark attack.

The Telegraph reports Stephen King, 51, as saying he was just taking off on a wave, starting to get up on the board, when the shark slammed into the side, sending him “cartwheeling through the air.”

Check out this AP News interview with King:

The Telegraph goes on to report NSW Department of Primary Industries spokesman Vic Peddemors as saying that surfers need to be mindful of the fact that they are just visitors in the sharks’ territory. Still, there have been at least three deaths to shark attacks in Western Australia in the last three months.

I was told to never use a yellow bottomed surfboard by a person who lived on the beach in a surfing community when I was younger, he called the color of the board in the above picture “yum-yum yellow”.

apparently that color looks like seal brown when viewed by a shark. I never put a ton of stock into that, but now I am changing my mind. No yellow board for me in any case.

It’s not “surfing”, more like “trolling.”

Great Whites on the south and west coasts, killer jellyfish on the east coast, salt water crocs and sea snakes on the north coast. Stick to swimming pools in Australia. But watch out for killer spiders around the pool.

I don‘t think I’ll take up surfing. I never have liked the idea of making fish-bait out of myself.

Wow that guy is lucky. But it’s Australia, people get wrecked all the time by sharks.
