Sharpton’s Nonprofit Could be in Trouble

An audit completed by a private firm shows that Al Sharpton’s National Action Network (NAN) is in such poor financial shape that it might not survive. The audit was sanctioned by NAN, which reviewed the organizations 2008 records, the most recent available.
According to a copy of the audit obtained by the New York Post, the firm, KBL, concluded: “The organization has suffered recurring decreases in net assets — and has been dependent upon advances from related parties and the nonpayment of payroll tax obligations — to maintain continuity. … These circumstances create substantial doubt about the organization’s ability to continue.”
The audit also said that NAN still owed $1.348 million in delinquent city, state and federal taxes and penalties at the end of 2008. And according to the Post article, “the IRS has filed dozens of liens against NAN over the past decade, including one as recently as April of this year.”
In addition, last year, the Federal Elections Commission fined Sharpton $285,000, in part for illegally using NAN funds to fund his 2004 presidential campaign. The Post also found that NAN was named as a defendant in five lawsuits.
But according to NAN spokeswoman Rachel Noerdlinger, the organization is improving. “We determined not to file bankruptcy but to make NAN solvent, which we clearly have done and will be reflected in [upcoming reports],” she told the Post.
Yet some are still waiting to see NAN’s new financials. The Post notes that the organizations has requested an extension from the IRS for filing its 2009 report.

Mr Sharpton: Please take care of your delinquent taxes, we do not wish to bail you out, Thank you.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 9:58amRevered Al has been a loser all the way back to the Tawana Brawly mess. That alone should have ended anyone with a centilla of common sense from listening to his rants. Why does it seem that every African-American that is in public view have, not one, but several skeletons rattling around in their closets? Think about it. All the way back to Adam Clayton Powell, to Jesse Jackson Jr., to Charlie Rengal there is the stink of impropriaty. Sharpton is just another one that tries to game the system believing he is untouchable and if he yells long and loud enough that the racist whites are out to get him, he will be left to continue his divisivness and hate speech.
Wake up African Americans, these people do not help your situation. Just look at how your society has changed with these leaders over the past 30 years—- more fatherless families, huge gangs, more drug addiction, lower educational attainment and the list goes on.
Once these so-called black leaders stop lobbying for tax dollars as hand outs and using those dollars in hands up spending, you will never achieve assimilation. Though now what I hear too often is not an inclusive message. I was alive in the ‘60’s and didn’t understand segregation as I lived in the north. However, if you look closely at the King marches, you will see many white faces marching arm in arm.
It is time you looked at your leadership and ask the hard question, what have you specifically done for me to improve my life?”

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 3:20pmThere are many black Americans who aren’t criminals. Col. Allen West is just one of many who comes to mind. It’s not skin colour that makes Sharpton, et al. poisonous beasts, it’s communist beliefs. Communism is the ideology of institutionalized crime. It exists to steal from as many as possible and then enslave those same people and force them to produce more for the communists to continue stealing.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 9:28amFrom http://www.nationalactionnetwork.net/about/history.html :
“led delegations to Rwanda, Africa and the Sudan to engage the issues of slavery and genocide; and spearheaded the historic Redeem the Dream March against police brutality and racial profiling in honor of the 37th anniversary of the 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington, D.C. and Dr King’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech.”
Engage the issues of slavery and genocide? Engage? What does that even mean in this context?
So ten years ago they had “Redeem the Dream” now they have “Reclaim the Dream”, so I guess that means they had it, but lost it over the last ten years? Funny how their enthusiasim wained in just ten short years…

He refuses to pay his but…oh wait,,,yeah, I forgot, he wants EVERYONE ELSE to pay higher taxes-maybe he is waiting for a bailout from the government. You just can’t make this stuff up.

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 9:24amthat is the formidable conclusion, bailout….but dont be suprised if Obama will use “dealing with Sharpton: as an attempt to “spin” the idea that he is serious about tax fraud and tax delinquency…hmmm have to watch this one develop

Posted on September 7, 2010 at 9:22am“the nonpayment of payroll tax obligations”
Whoa, that’s a big one – why haven’t they been shut down for failure to make payroll taxes? I know privatee industries that fail to pay their taxes get hounded mercilessly by the IRS, maybe non-profits work under different rules? But wait, is NAN non-profit? Oh yeah, from their website:
“NAN was formally incorporated on April 4, 1994 as a not-for-profit 501(c)(4) organization.”
