She Insulted Islam: Muslim Cleric Blasts Pakistani Actress for Cozying up to Hindu ManISLAMABAD (AP) — A Pakistani actress castigated for appearing to cuddle with an Indian actor on a reality show lashed out at a Muslim cleric who had criticized her during a widely watched television exchange this week.

The unusual outburst, punctuated by tears, came at a sensitive time in a country where Islamic fundamentalism is spreading and liberals are increasingly afraid to express their views.

“What is your problem with me? You tell me your problem!” an angry Veena Malik asked the Muslim scholar, who accused her of insulting Islam.

Earlier this month, a liberal Pakistani governor was shot dead for opposing the country’s harsh laws against blasphemy. In the aftermath, his killer was cheered as a hero among many in the public, shocking the country’s small liberal establishment.

Malik, 26, participated recently on Bigg Boss, an Indian version of “Big Brother.” Clips of the show on the Internet include ones in which she appears cozy with Indian actor Ashmit Patel. Those scenes, and her involvement with a show in Pakistan’s archrival India, prompted criticism online and on the air.

“You have insulted Pakistan and Islam,” Mufti Abdul Qawi accused her on the Express TV channel talk show via a television link. The exchange first aired Friday and then again Saturday.

A furious Malik shot back, saying Qawi targeted her because she is a woman, reminding him that the Quran admonishes men not to stare at a woman’s beauty beyond a first glance, and telling him there were bigger problems in Pakistan, including the alleged rape of children at mosques.

During the exchange, Qawi admitted he had not seen the clips of the show but had heard about it from others.

“What does your Islam say, mufti sir?” the actress asked. “You issue edicts on the basis of hearsay.”

Malik said she had read the Quran and she knew what lines not to cross as a Muslim as well as an entertainer in South Asia. She pointed out that she never kissed Patel, for instance.

“I am a Muslim woman, and I know my limits,” she said. The cleric seemed unable to respond to her flood of words.

Malik’s fierce outburst sparked a barrage of comments on Twitter. While some writers said they didn’t agree with her and one called her a “porn star,” others said she was brave for standing up to the Pakistani clerical establishment, especially when such an act can mean personal danger.

Wrote one supporter: “The only way to talk to these bloody clerics is to talk down to them. Veena Malik did just that, and how. Good for her!”

    I like to do my best to insult Islam whenever the opportunity arises. Islam is a cancer and should be eliminated; but that‘s my opinion and it’s based on extremely good biases of truth verses religion.
    Islam is NOT compatible with America. They should either assimilate or just get out….getting out would be preferable, but I’ll accept assimilation.
    The more they assimilate, the less importance the religion of hate becomes.

    Look at europe, I mean get on the internet and start searching for the truth of what the muslims are doing there. For the idiots out there saying every religion has some quirks, pick up a koran and read it.. The muslims have already gotten much more than a foothold here. People out there are even afraid to say anything against them AFRAID in our own country.We are not just fighting liberal were fighting muslims also. Ant the muslims use the libs to reach there goals.     Our State department lets them immigrate to America. The first thing they do is see how many rules they can break and the limits of the law. How do I know? I have been fighting these idiots for years. A contract does not mean anything to them. They do what they want and see what they can get by with. It’s the State department who is doing it. They let TOO MANY of them in here. That is the real problem. It didn‘t work for Germany and the UK and it won’t work for us.

    Is there anyone Muslims do not hate? Oh wait, no there isn’t. They only accept and befriend other Muslims by Allah’s decree… I forgot. (not) The only time otherwise is when they’re using the said non Muslim or infidel which I prefer to be called for Taquiyya purposes or to convert them by sword or whatever means necessary. (Again from the Koran itself) .

    And they along with the left dare call this a religion of peace and yet project so much hatred towards Judaism, Christianity and Hinduism. All of which ARE religions of peace and love.

    The even funnier thing is so many dumb Americans actually believe that crud in spite of the fact we all witnessed their butchery at the outset of the Iraq war and in New York but somehow the left wants us all to not believe our own eyes and intellect time and time again.

    I admire this woman’s courage. I also fear that when we next hear of her it will be because or her murder. Were I her I would head for the U.S. and tell everyone that I was from South America. If she doesn’t do something similar one of the disciples of the the “religion of peace” will cut her throat. I wonder how difficult it is for a woman to get a concealed carry permit?

      6. Are millions of your religious fellows OK with killing innocents to make a religious point?
      7. Are thousands (or more) of your religious fellows willing to kill themselves along with innocents to make a religious point?
      8. Is stoning to death condoned anywhere within your religion?
      9. Is beheading people condoned anywhere within your religion?

    See it America. Absorb it fully. Afshan Assad’s (Padme Patil in Harry Potter) brother and father beat her severely in London for the same reason. This is who the religious leaders of Islam are. This is what they stand for. Their patriarchal attitude makes the Catholic Church look woman friendly. This is Sharia law and if we do not get actively, consistently involved now it will be a part of our legal system as it is becoming a part of England’s legal system. Too late did the indigenous English people realize that the Islamic immigrants goal was to change England to an Islamic country and they are succeeding. It is a scary prospect which is working its way into a neighborhood near you.

    Islam allows for no freedom of thought or action. It compells one to punish his brother or sister for any varience to accepted behavior. And so many of these with wicked hearts are happy to comply. How is it that these are called conservatives when they dictate every aspect of a person’s life? We need to call it what it is. This is not a conservitve religion. There is no freedom of choice, tollerance, forgiveness, or love.

      I have to admit this is the first time I’ve heard that muslims are are “conservative” but I’ll bet our left would love to make that one stick … I‘ve been saying for a Long time that islam is not a religion it’s an ideology, a legal system maybe but not a religion, and a very prejudiced one at that.

      Yes an distinction needs to be made between Islamic conservatives and us. Islamic conservative means strict adherence to sharia law and no freedom at all. But to Americans conservative means less government control and more individual freedom. Quite a difference.

      You can argue with the dictionary all you want. Muslims are the ultimate expression of conservativism. It‘s immaterial if you don’t wanna share the term. If you know anything about Jesus and his dealings with the established religion of his time, you can hardly call Christianity conservative… it was all about changing the way people view their fellow man and their role in society. I’m not delving too deep into this mire, but govt. wants to tend to limit rights and religion wants to limit choices. Coupling both is bad, but so is having one without the other. Moderation in all things.

      Trust me, Grady Curve, I am well aware that even though many in the West do not believe the West is at war with Islam, I sure as hell know that much of Islam believes it is at war with the West. I‘ve concluded a LONG time ago that a moderate Muslim is one that doesn’t necessarily wanna blow you up… but he/she is okay if others of the faith do so. Obama is a useful idiot for Islam… like most of our politicians. I suppose when they see what these crazy f’ers are willing to do, the elites believe placating them and using dialogue actually matters. Stalling for position and using the West’s own legal system and squeamishness against is how Obama and his ilk are useful. But in this matter, Obama is but one of many useful idiots. I guarantee you after his gaffes regarding law enforcement and other issues early on his presidency, he will stay FAR from a story such as this… as will most progressives/liberals and especially women’s rights groups.       Well, shes dead. She is a muslim and that will not be tolerated. My grown children went to a friend’s wedding (arranged) and her muslim father beat his daughter (the bride) the day before the wedding because she dared to give her opinion about wedding details.She was 20 at the time. My daughters helped her cover her bruises with makeup and then attended what they described as a beautiful traditional wedding. When this young woman was 18 she fell in love with an American boy (met in high school) and the parents threatened them both and she suddenly was engaged to a 32 year old doctor from Pakistan.
