Sheila Jackson Lee Says Voter ID Laws Pushed Because We Elected the First African American President

Chronic race baiter Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is at it again.

On Monday night the Congressional Black Caucus went to the House floor to discuss state voter ID laws suggesting that legislation requiring someone to have government identification on hand in order to vote, was a means to possibly keep minorities away from the polls and in doing so hinder President Barack Obama’s reelection.

Rep. Lee remarked that supporters of these laws have made the “misrepresentation” that there was fraud in the 2008 election, “maybe because we elected the first African American president.”

Yet the chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party was forced to resignation in December as investigators probed allegations of election fraud during the state’s 2008 Democratic presidential primary. CNN reported in October 2008 that more than 2,000 voter registration forms filed in northern Indiana’s Lake County by a liberal activist group turned out to be bogus. The chairman rescinded his resignation one week later, but New York Post columnist Michael A. Walsh writes that voter fraud is no myth:

“The Commission on Federal Election Reform, created after the 2004 election and co-chaired by Jimmy Carter and James Baker, uncovered examples of vote-buying, repeat voting and absentee-ballot fraud. As Justice John Paul Stevens wrote in upholding Indiana’s voter-ID law in 2008, ‘flagrant examples of such fraud have been documented throughout this nation’s history by respected historians and journalists.’”

NPR reports that in 2008, the Supreme Court upheld a voter-identification law in Indiana, saying that requiring voters to produce photo identification is not unconstitutional and affirming that states have a “valid interest” in improving election procedures and deterring fraud. 31 States now require voters to show some form of identification at the polls. Fifteen of them require photo IDs.

New voter ID laws were implemented in 2012 in Kansas, Rhode Island, Tennessee and Wisconsin. NPR notes that legal battles on the issue are heating up in South Carolina, Mississippi and Texas.

Rep. Jackson Lee’s irritated mood could perhaps be explained with the redistricting going on in her state, which she has testified hurts minority seats. Critics say that Rep. Jackson Lee is really upset that the redistricting may loose her key financial backing from the downtown Houston business community within part of her Congressional district.

      If Queen Shelia wanted to really stop voter fraud without folks having to show an ID it would be so simple, it’s scary. She needs to pass a federal law and both houses would pass it. The law would state that all election boards in the country have to send all registered voters a pin number. At the same time all the dead folks forms would be sent back to the election board. Yes some family member might use a family members that doesn‘t want to vote but these few wouldn’t change the results in favor of a party that wants to cheat like Lyndon Johnson did the first time he was elected.

      Her reelection is a good example of voter fraud. The majority of her constituants can’t read and are taught how to vote from a picture of a ballot. “ Here you are Jamal mark this box when you get to the voting booth” Most of her district consists of transplants from New Orleans courtesy of Katrina.
      Hopefully the new redistricting lines will get her replaced.

      It’s not racist and any body can get an I.D. at the same place they go to register to vote in the first place. Anyone who is fighting to stop regulation designed to stop fraud are doing so because they want fraud. End of story

    If the Supreme Court upheld voter ID in 2008, why are the Democrats bring this up again ? Or is this fact, one of the reasons the Obama Administration has been demonizing the Supreme Court for so long? Besides the Court’s Citizens United decision, the Democrats are probably concerned that their ObamaCare Bill will also get shot down by the Court. As usual, the Democrats want to Blame and Demonize the Court rather than admit that their Democrat legislation is unconstitutional !       They cheat in alot of ways. I have a friend that worked at a nursing home in Connecticut in 08.
      Most of the people were not even close to being of sound mind, they loaded them in vans and took them to the polls and told them they should vote for Obama.

    Use your cell phone, take a picture of the “poor” person, turn on your PC and insert said picture into a nice form (easily provided pdf. from the government) fill out the form, print it out, cut it to a nice pocket size and presto!!! an ID for a “poor” person.

      We’ve been fighting the War on Poverty with trillions of tax dollars, upholding Affirmative Action Laws , and expanding the Discrimination Card to now include various “ minorities ” such as gays and lesbians since the 1960′s. So what have these 50 years brought us to ? A huge deficit after the housing fiasco due to forcing “ discriminating ” banks to provide home loans to the “ poor and minorities ” who then could not repay them. We still have Democrats causing class warfare screaming about the evil 1% of “rich” people . We still have Democrats screaming about the evil bankers. We still have Democrats screaming about Discrimination – the latest about the requirement to get voter ID is now seen as discrimination .     Instead of the Govmt spending tons of money fighting the use of IDs for voting why not use those funds to let the DMVs issue free IDs to the poor who don’t already have one. Couldn’t cost that much to put out a few thousand IDs. Most people have IDs already.

    Sheila Jackson Lee, why is it that you cannot get into the mainstream of life? The simple ID to prove you are who you are, and where you live, in concert with your voter registration! This prevents those, in most cases, from crossing the state, or county line to vote more than once! Counties should provide a Voter ID at or shortly after registering to vote! Agreed, there are some people who have never had driver’s license, so, the Voter ID, or drivers license would be the simple solution.

    When I walk into the Voting Booth, I have to see two different people checking my PHOTO ID in Blue Connecticut. If being checked for voting fraud in this Socialist State, anyone voting in any state should not be able to negate my vote by cheating. Texas should redistrict this piece of excrement out of office.

    I can get an ID in a half an hour for just a few bucks. Minorities can’t do this? Of course there was voter fraud i 2008, just look at all of the cases against Acorn.
