Sheriff Arpaio’s Office Reportedly Arrests 6-Year-Old Suspected of Illegal Immigration

Sheriff Joe Arpaio is proudly known as “America’s toughest sheriff.” On Friday, after Obama announced that we will not be deporting roughly 800,000 illegal immigrants, Arpaio unashamedly asserted that he would continue to enforce Arizona’s laws.
However, after it was reported that a 6-year-old was arrested by his office, some are saying he may have gone a little too far.

The Arizona Republic has more information:
The girl was with 15 other people believed to be in the country illegally who were traveling to the Midwest and northeast United States, said Chris Hegstrom, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.
“She’s been turned over to ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) to try to determine where she’s from. She told us she’s from El Salvador. That’s what she told us,” he said.
The arrest took place Friday night at an undisclosed location in northern Maricopa County.
“It was part of a human-smuggling investigation that we’ve been investigating throughout the Valley,” Hegstrom said.
The whereabouts of the girl’s parents or other caretakers is unknown. All of the people traveling with her claimed to know nothing about the girl.
“Where was she going? What are they going to do with her? We’re trying to get to the bottom of this right now,” Sheriff Joe Arpaio said.
All of the other suspected illegal immigrants, who claimed to be from Mexico, were booked into jail.
“We enforce the human-smuggling laws here,” Arpaio said. “Every chance I can get to take action on my own without turning them over to ICE, I do. Especially with the new policy the president has.”
In light of the fact that no one claimed any knowledge of the girl– and that she was involved in what appeared to be a human trafficking case– perhaps Arpaio’s unwavering enforcement of the law was actually a serious blessing for the child.
CBS 5 relates: “Sheriff Arpaio ordered the majority of the violators to be booked into his jail in lieu of being turned over to the federal government. The 6-year-old child was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials for their disposition.”

Posted on June 18, 2012 at 9:14amI’m not bashing Sheriff Joe.He made a good call.Its the best one he could have made.What I take offense in is that every smuggler is not necessarily connected to the slave trade.However by finger pointing ,it causes those who ordinarily might say something to shut up.While these smugglers may not have any information on this girl.Its also entirely possible that they do.They have shut up due to the implications.It may be because of the long range implications and the truth.It also could be just old fashioned fear.They were innocent of sex slavery trafficking ,just not smuggling.

I wish The Blaze would take care of this because many people will only read the title and not the story and that’s what will stick with them. The sheriff needs support for doing the right thing and for most likely saving the little girl from something hidious. He was following the law and anything less would’ve meant probably what for the girl? Blaze, the libs don‘t need your help and your readers don’t appreciate this. The story should’ve been framed differently, maybe an added subtitle to clarify.

1) On a more humanitarian level (which liberals love to invoke as a means of “letting her stay” a 6 year old girl with no known family moving into the mid west can have only one realistic destination…Sex Slavery. The fact that she may actually be returned to her country of origin and possibly reunited with some family member is the best thing that could have happened to her.
2) In spite of any humanitarian arguments… she along with all the other immigrants were violating the laws of this nation…and though some may say Im over reaching here…there presence is n fact a breach of our national Sovereignty.
I say Good for him…
I hope he gets another thousand 6 year olds (for both those reasons)

Sheriff Joe stopped what appeared to be a human smuggling ring dealing in illegal immigrants. This little girl was there and no one knew who she was. Sheriff Joe had to take her along until ICE could come and put her as an illegal immigrant into their custody to try and find out why she was there with a lot of strangers and send her back home to her family (if she has any back home).
He did not “arrest” a 6-year old for being illegal.

Thank God this child was rescued, and I hope she has not been harmed and is returned to her loved ones, if she has any. Sheriff Arpaio definitely did the right thing in choosing to do his job.
