Sheriff Babeu Denies Quitting Romney Campaign Over Gay Lover’s Allegations: I Was Smeared Because I’m a Conservative

AZ Sheriff Paul Babeu Talks About Resigning from Mitt Romney Campaign, Gay Marriage, Gay Claims

On Monday, beleaguered Sheriff Paul Babeu spoke out in a number of interviews, explaining why he resigned from Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign and addressing allegations that he was in a relationship with a male illegal immigrant.

The Phoenix New Times published an interview with Babeu’s ex-boyfriend — a Mexican who went simply by the name “José.” In that interview, Jose allegedly outed the Sheriff as gay and claimed Babeu’s lawyer threatened to deport him if he went public about their relationship. Babeu adamantly denied the claims of blackmail and also maintained that his former partner was not in the country illegally.

When asked by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer why he stepped down from the Romney campaign, Babeu said that he simply has “enough to deal with” right now and didn’t want his personal troubles to spill over onto the campaign. He unequivocally stated that his sexual orientation was in no way a part of his decision, nor did the Romney campaign suggest it would pose a problem.

Babeu said he believes the “slanderous, baseless attacks” he is now suffering came about simply because he is a conservative. He also asserted that he has never worn his sexual orientation “on his sleeve” and that he lays his own life on the line to defend a vibrant,  diverse America where people of all walks are celebrated.

“I’m the same Paul Babeu as I was yesterday,” he said.

Below are several clips of Blitzer‘s interview as well as Babeu’s in-depth, 16-minute long interview with Mike Broomhead on 550KFYI

The following are clips of Babeu’s interview with CNN’s Blitzer. Below, Babeu denies allegations of threatening his former boyfriend:

If Babeu can’t be trusted any longer to enforce the laws in one County, how can folks trust Gingrich to govern a whole Nation?

It’s a little (a lot) pathetic that the left is going after him. But he is conservative AND defends our border, two strikes. The third strike is that he is gay and didn’t stay in perpetual Democratic victimhood and vote Dem all the way. This man is hard-working and does one hell of a job on the border. No one (except the left) cares that he is gay. They are merely hoping it will drive away conservatives, yet, again, they are confused. We aren’t the ones who care about his sexual orientation.

      @ Marci:

Like you, Babeu‘s orientation doesn’t concern me. The only questionable issue is the alleged threat of deportation, which would be an abuse of power but which he denies. So that matter needs to be hashed out some.
Alas, you’ll note that a number of people posting here have very strong feelings against Babeu expressly because of his orientation, and I can’t help but wonder how many were his champions prior to this revelation. You’ve got some here who baselessly accuse him of being a predator and equate him with the end of society. Hopefully, that lot is only a loud minority.

But I question the mindset of a gay man, belonging to a party that generally despises him and his ilk.

Sorry Lois, this isn’t the same or even close. Weiner was a married man and his wife was pregnant. He also represented Liberals who did not throw him under the bus until the whole story came out.

So you’re disappointed in him BUT did he do his job, did he do it well. The answer is yes. Is he getting smeared because he’s a conservative? The answer is yes. None of those pictures would be out for you to see if Media Matters and this administration weren’t so busy digging up dirt on conservatives to protect this administration. Myths created by the MSM:

The majority of the poor people in this country are minorities. . Lie. The majority of poor people in this country are white.

The South is filled with racists. Lie. In 2000, there was a race riot in Cincinnati, OH. I lived there and I was there. I love everybody and also lived in a predominately black neighborhood and I was completely fine (yeah, we get along).

The Federal Reserve is a function of the government. Lie and not lie. The Fed rapes you and your children financially and are more dangerous to you than Iran. They are not of government but are now government. They authorize the US Treasury to print money (now digits on a computer) which further devalues our currency, which results in inflation (and ultimately hyperinflation).

When FDR took our grand parents and great parents gold, it went directly to the Federal Reseve. And FDRs govt paid you $0.40 for it.

FT Knox….there is no gold there. It’s all in privately managed Federal Reserve banks. If you by bullion, you will get a visit from the IRS (muscle for the Fed) immediately. I know this personally.

God can deal with that part, BUT that does not mean we exalt people who make life choices that are not equal to their aspirations. I have the same problkem if he was a single straight guy posting his junk on a dating site for a hookup.

The spouses of candidates get vetted, but girlfriends or booty calls, probably not. Spouses have skin in the game, as in their livlihood and well being are directly tied to the candidates succes and or failure. The same cannot be said with an angry ex girlfriend who has a bone to pick, especiallyif you hid them from the wrold. The potential for compromise, blackmail, revenge, etc are increased with a volatiile lifestyle. Who knows if this guy he was messing with was paid or a plant. Either way , It reflects poor judgement unworthy of an office that should be held in high esteem and be held by the best we have to offer. Reality notwithstanding, the truth remains.

He lost tons of conservative cred with this.

Remain sherriff? We could do worse. Send him to Congress? No. We need better examples who are not compromised or given to such behavior as might bring it about. BTW- Barney Frank is a disgrace and the precedence he established disgraces his office. When you become a public servant, your life is no longer private while in office.

      @ RangerP:

You state: “Every nation in the history of the world that has accepted homosexuality as normal and natural has crumbled soon after.”

Homosexuality was accepted in ancient Greece, Rome and China. By “soon after” do you mean several millenia? Do you have some examples you’d like to offer, or is this just something you claim without checking?

You also site some unreferenced statistics.
From the American Psychological Association’s 2001 website article “Understanding Child Sexual Abuse: Education, Prevention, and Recovery”:
“Studies on who commits child sexual abuse vary in their findings, but the most common finding is that the majority of sexual offenders are family members or are otherwise known to the child. Sexual abuse by strangers is not nearly as common as sexual abuse by family members.
Research further shows that men perpetrate most instances of sexual abuse, but there are cases in which women are the offenders.
Despite a common myth, homosexual men are not more likely to sexually abuse children than heterosexual men are.”

If we combine your logic with these statistics, we should consider all men to be villainous perverts.

But I’m sure you pick and chose your statistics to fit your prejudices.

I use the statistics that are available. Many come from the Center for Disease Control, others from the FBI Crime stats. Men that molest boys are homosexual. Around a quarter of the nations child molestations are commited on young boys by homosexual men. You will notice the bag molestation case concerning the assistant coach at Penn State. You will also notice the MSM never mentions that he is homosexual. This is what homosexuals do. It is not new. Baron Von Stuben (wrote our drill and ceremony manual during the revolution) was gay, and he left Prussia because he raped several young boys under his care at a military school.

Yes, homosexuality became accepted in Rome and in Greece. They did not accept it on the way to the top. It was after reaching super power status. I always comes towards the end, when you have a rise in femenism, a break down of the family, and stupid economic policies.

So answer a question for me. Why does 2.5% of the population (gays) carry 64% of the natins syphilis, and why were 70% of new aids cases in the US last year spread by homosexuals??

      RangerP,

I have sat here and read the pure hatred you have been spewing in the form of idiotic remarks. You are not the judge and jury of anything, let alone how conservative a gay man is or can be. Given your personality type I’m certain that you enjoy bashing gays. It is because of people like you (liars, bigots, and homophobes) that gays and lesbians flock to the left’s open arms.

I’m gay, I don’t have syphilis, I don’t touch little boys, I don’t dress like a woman, I don’t try to bring down society, and I don’t carry or spread AIDS. However I do believe in God, I am conservative, I served in the USMC, I’m in a commited relationship, I’m involved in local politics, I ran for public office, and the Dems did the same exact thing to me as they did to the Sheriff. They found a round about way to bring up the fact that I’m a gay Republican. You see, if you met me you‘d never know I’m gay. They used vacation photos to “out” me three months after these same people passed an anti-discrimination law in the city.

The fact that I’m gay does not change the fact that I love America.

Funny thing, I didn’t see you comment on the boob staring story. Hmm, I guess that type of behavior is normal to you. A married man visually raping a woman!

Paul Babeu ex-boyfriend appears on CNN – Politico

Seems to me as if they mention he’s gay.

You also say: “Yes, homosexuality became accepted in Rome and in Greece. They did not accept it on the way to the top.” You really need to read more history.

The first recorded homosexual couple in history is commonly regarded as Khnumhotep and Niankhkhnum, an Egyptian male couple, who lived around 2400 BCE. – Wikipedia

The practice of pederasty is mentioned in Homer’s Iliad, and is evidenced to have existed at least 4500 years ago in ancient Egypt. – Conservapedia

      Hey RangerP,

      You’re wrong and how!

http://www.gallup.com/poll/6961/What-Percentage-Population-Gay.aspx — The numbers are actually about 10% of Americans are strictly homosexual and about 10% of Americans are strictly heterosexual. That leaves 80%. Where do THOSE people fit in? Do you have a slander for them too?

http://marriage101.org/divorce-rates-in-america/ — About 50% of marriage ends in divorce usually as a result of cheating. Want to cast stones at the people who are divorced too?

http://psychology.ucdavis.edu/rainbow/html/facts_molestation.html — The distinction between a victim‘s gender and a perpetrator’s sexual orientation is important because many child molesters don’t really have an adult sexual orientation. They have never developed the capacity for mature sexual relationships with other adults, either men or women. Instead, their sexual attractions focus on children.

I’m starting to think you are not big on research or learning.

http://www.thebody.com/h/which-race-ethnicity-category-has-the-highest-number-of-cases-diagnosed-with-hiv-aids.html — African Americans are the group most affected by HIV. In 2009, African Americans comprised 14% of the US population but accounted for 44% of all new HIV infections.

What RangerP says is true. I knew two gay guys who were renting a house across the street once. The older more grizzled guy was the “pitcher”, and the younger cleaner looking guy was the “catcher”. Those were the terms they used to describe their sexual positioning. Sometimes The Pitcher would send The Catcher out to find little boys for him and bring them back home, as The Catcher was better at attracting them. After months of these young boy parties a big bust came down and they both got charged with raping 12 young boys in their anus. When inquiring about all the police action at their house sometime later, The Pitcher said “I’ve got at least 24 more victims out there that nobody knows about…” sick

In your posts, you‘ve inferred that Sheriff Babeu’s homosexuality means that he is a child molester. In a reply to LoisLane1951 you stated “This man is a [s]exual devi[a]nt and a pervert. He … is a predator.”
While I suspect the scriptures might grant you leeway to disapprove of Babeu’s lifestyle, I equally suspect they would find you more than a little guilty of violating the 9th commandment (unless you have special intimate knowledge about Babeu) along with the admonishments of Matthew and John. And doesn’t that put you a little at odds with things?

      @nelbert

Judging in the form yous used is in deciding as a person who around you will go to heaven – that is not my place.

We are to judge what we see in line with scriptures.

I do not claime that hte Sherrif is a child molester, he is in a small group of deviant people who carry much disease and commit a huge portion of the child molestations- this is fact, not my opinion

we are talking about an elected official. The cool thing about my vote, is that it is mine. I have a first amendment right to freedom of religion, and I can apply bible when I decide on who I vote or support.

I do not vote for or support any person that is involved in sexual deviance, to include homosexuals, adultersrs, molesters, rapists. Some are labeled as crimes, some are labeled as sins. All can be forgiven, but some you should hang for. Child molesters and rapist should hange.

      @RangerP:

I’m not trying to be rude, but your last post has some typos (and we all make them) that leave me unsure about your meaning.

Let’s just narrow it to Sheriff Babeu.
Here you state that you did not claim the sheriff to be a molester, yet in previous posts you go to great lengths to draw conclusions between homosexuality and child molestation. That inference is even more strongly affirmed by your calling the sheriff a predator.
Indeed, you may and should vote the way your conscience dictates (and I suspect our criteria might not be so different), but my objection has been in the way you’ve used libelous statements to insinuate behavior by an individual for which you have no evidence. And I certainly question your reasoning that on one hand holds Biblical maxims in high regard but then seemingly disregards them on a whim.

Yep, I should copy and paste what I write into a spell check prior to hitting the “reply” button. I have arthritis, and my typing in the morning really shows it.

The stats I read and study, show a correlation between male homosexuals and child molestation. This sheriff seems to have some issues, when he posts some very lewd pics of himself. This is not the man I want in charge of law enforcement, especially a law enforcement system that oversees vice.

The Bible is very clear about homosexuality, and does not mince words, Read the entire first chapter of the book of Romans.

I believe that a sodomite can get saved, get forgiven ,and change their ways. Homosexuality is a byproduct of environment and poor choices (series of them). Nations that accept homosexuality fail. Look at our nation right now. It is crumbling morally, financially, and in other ways. They go hand in hand. Study Rome and how it fell. Homosexuality is one of the deepest forms of immorality one can partake in.

I think he is right: his private life is just that-private. It does not change my opinion of him to learn this and I believe him that he did not make threats. If he did, that would change my opinion. But I take him at his word. I still admire him for his beliefs and the job he did as sheriff. I have always wished that some people would keep their private lives private, and so I have not changed my opinion of him just because he was forced to disclose his private life. I think that there were people who sought to make him look bad and they are the ones who have earned my contempt. Not Mr. Babeu. He is just fine with me.

However sincere a cultural warriior he may be, he suffers from incurable, terminal foot-in-the-mouth. I could never vote for him in a general election. Since I always vote, I would have to with the official Libertarian candidate or even Donal Trump, if he carries out to go independent if Santorum is the nominee.

As for Babeu, I felt he was a better spokesperson for his conservative causes than Santorum is. If I lived in Arizona and his congressional district, I would probably still vote for him. I do not want to know about Babue’s love life or the details of Santorum taking a dead baby home from the hospital for a family farewell. Let’s keep those personal oddities out of the public forum. We all have clay feet before God and its not my job to look for the mote in my neighbor’s eye.

All things being equal, Babeu still comes across as a better person than Santorum does, quite frankly. We all fall short of the glory of God, so pointing at another man’s apparent weakness before God in scorn is just plain wrong. Babeu comes across as the sort of guy would you could absolutely trust your life to while Santorum really does not. Yet, just knowing what we know about Babeu’s personal life, you can bet Santorum is looking down his pointy nose at the good Sheriff. Religious smugness is not a good substitute for the simple satisfaction of actual Christian living.

Let me see if I can explain this to you. Christians view homosexuality as vile. So do most others, that believe in natural laws. Most people’s first response to it is revulsion. You can’t change that, it’s a base, primal reaction. Christians believe in forgiveness, as Christ has forgiven (and still forgives)them. While Christians wouldn’t condone behavior like this, it’s not our place to tell them they are going to burn in hell, or what-not. God has already told them what’s going to happen, and if they haven’t heard the message, well, we’re not here to keep rubbing their noses in it. By their fruit, ye shall know them. We’re not here to judge.

But here’s the deal. Am I to believe the stories, that this American, this white Christian, had a same-sex physical relationship with a Mexican? Is that true? I hope the good Lord has mercy on his soul if true. But seriously, a Mexican?

I like Ron Paul’s plan to cut the deficit by one trillion the first year.and balance the budget in three. I am willing to let the states decide about non violent offenders.. as for someone’s being a homosexual…it’s against the law of God..but then so is fornication. adultery..drunkeness..idolatry.and partying..It is only by coming to the saving grace of God and willingness to come into obedience of His word..will people change to being Godly people..In the end..Jesus/Yeshuah is the judge..He says those doing such things will not inherit the kingdom of heaven..some would rather live for the flesh and will miss out on eternal life in the kingdom of God.

Santorum, Romney, Gingrich and the President all will continue to seek the destruction of our civil liberties, enslave us in perpetual war, promote indentured economic servitude to a global elite and worship at the alter of big government. I obviously support Dr Paul, but one man can not set this country to rights. As I’ve said before I don’t have a problem w/ his sexual orientation. He said he has not denied his orientation but he does not wear it on his sleeve & does make it an issue. I’m willing to overlook it as long as he doesn’t push his orientation on anyone else & the fact he was able to keep it discrete for so long while honorably serving the Army National Guard & Sheriff leads to believe he can keep it out of public life. The other positions he has espoused on issues I’m satisfied w/.

I am not going to let the Mainstream (read liberal) gays pick off one person after another.

Many people are functional (or great in their career field) although they have a problem.

For example, Governor Christie had a weight problem (physical discipline) although he has fiscal discipline. Although I would say having a desk job makes the odds worse for people.

Some or many people can compartmentalize different aspects of their life &do so very well. Unless people come & nit pick at them.

You might say your life is beautiful & everything was done right. I bet I can find lots of ways that you have fallen short.

The Sheriff is a “top”. I didn’t know what that was until the last year. It shows that the gay lifestyle is not healthy. But then look at Newt. Cheating on your spouses is not healthy either for the whole family. Did the children get over it? Apparently. But for some children it causes considerable problems.

I actually agree with many of the assertions Santorum makes about evil influences, but Santorum cannot help but personalize the issue and point the finger at various individuals and groups of people. Babeu was an effective spokesperson for conservative values, including strong borders, but thanks to the bigots among us, he will never be again. True Tea Party, Libertarian-leaning GOP should be able to ignore what makes Babeu different from the average conservative. No one is asking any of us let him join our churches or socialize with him, just listen to him on conservative issues as one voice among many. But even that much will no longer be possible for the social and religious bigots among us. And in that folly, we play right into the hands of the liberals.

I assume this is a liberal plant or a looney tune. No one cares about the Sheriff’s sexual orientation. We have plenty of things to worry about. I appreciate his work and his stand on the border.

I honestly don’t get it, will you please be kind enough to give me some reason for this kind of verbal knee jerk reaction?

Georgiejo- “SO ELLEN and ROSIE should leave?”

      probably……..but NOT for being gay.

I am not going to judge this guy’s sexuality, that will come from a higher authority later.
But to say it doesn‘t matter what happens in someone’s private life buys into the whole Clinton/Lewinski model. Sometimes it DOES matter………a married President getting pleasured by a 20 year old intern in the oval office IS a problem. This guy may do a great job, and while he doesn’t wear his sexuality on his sleeve, he wears it on the internet with his pictures, etc. Sometimes people will be (and NEED to be) held to a higher standard.
Would you hire a babysitter to watch your kids who in her “private life” ran her own hard core porn website. I think not.
Would you want your brain surgeon to be an alcoholic in his “private life” ? Nope.

Conservative does not specifically mean Christian or even religious …

conservative does not fully explain whether one is fiscally, socially, National security, or strictly Constitutionally conservative –

when used as a general term more often than not it means one associates w/ one or more of those categories & generally believes in limited govt., a fairly strict adherence to the Constitution & letting local communities decide how to implement the rules of daily living …

Why are y’all so creeped out by the idea of a gay sheriff? There are gay judges, lawyers, police officers, members of congress, soldiers, doctorsand teachers. They are your moms, dads, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters. Gays deliver your mail, cut your hair and write your favourite songs. They can retile your bathroom, shoot a gun and they can even play football… do you want me to go on? Do you think these people are gay just so they can annoy people like you? Do you think their sexual preferences somehow prevent them from doing their jobs? I’m just trying to understand why everyone is so concerned with human sexuality in this day and age. Isn’t there more important stuff to deal with?

yup. I feel for this sheriff. he gets a nasty allegation which will inevitably destroy his carreer. liberals who claim to be so loving and open should be loving this. a gay man loving an illegel immigrant seems to be something they would embrace but no, they are the party of secret hatred, if they can’t use you they throw you to the wolves. Prayers for the sheriff, may you keep your head held high and keep protecting your county and let the drama roll off your back.

I never would have guessed he was gay, cause like he said, he doesn’t wear his sexuality on his sleeve.
I don’t want to hear what he does in his bedroom. I want to hear if he is doing his job that he swore an oath to uphold. Looks to me like he is. So glad he’s a conservative. Perhaps he can help others “like him” on the liberal side and come to the conservative side.
