10-Year-Old Ohio Boy Charged With Mother’s Murder

(AP/The Blaze) — A 10-year-old boy is in juvenile custody after telling a neighbor that he had shot and killed his mother, an Ohio sheriff said Monday.

10 Year Old Ohio Boy Charged With Mother’s Murder

Deborah McVay

Deborah McVay, 46, was found dead of a single gunshot wound to the head Sunday night in Big Prairie, located about midway between Cleveland and Columbus, said Holmes County Sheriff Tim Zimmerly. Paramedics found McVay lying facedown on her living room floor, and she was pronounced dead at the scene, Zimmerly said.

Authorities went to the home after a neighbor called a sheriff‘s dispatcher to say McVay’s son had come to her home and said he had just shot his mother.  Holmes County juvenile assistant prosecutor Sean Warner has told ABC News that the boy is being charged with one count of murder.  “I can’t divulge any statements by witness or the alleged delinquent child. But as charged it does not appear to be accident,” said Warner. “There is no indication that there are any other suspects.”

When he appeared in court Monday afternoon, the 10-year old defendant denied the murder charge.

Meanwhile, police are trying to determine what kind of motive the young boy had for shooting his mother with a .22 rifle. Nathan Fritz, chief deputy sheriff for Holmes County says that the boy has been involved in at least two cases of unruly behavior in the past, both in school and on the school bus.

Also at home during the time of the shooting was the boy’s 15-year-old sister who ran out of the house after the crime took place, Fritz said.  It’s unclear at this point whether she actually witnessed the shooting and she has since moved in with relatives while her young brother is reportedly being held at the Richland County Juvenile detention facility.

McVay‘s body was transported to the Stark County Coroner’s office for an autopsy.

I know someone who used to be a teacher where this child went to school. I guess the child had severe behavior issues since he was very young. I also heard that the mother was in denial and would never allow any blame to be put on the child. It was always someone else’s fault (a teacher, another student, etc) and not the child. This is a very sad story.

Aside from the horror of a child killing his mother, my question is to the ‘authorities’ wanting to send him to the ‘least restrictive environment’ as in to a relative. What relative in their right mind wants to take in a kid who just put a bullet in his mother’s head? Are they serious?????? Worse yet, I’d hate to be the relative they assigned to take this kid. It doesn’t matter what happened, he now has killed someone. What is there to stop him from doing it again.

What a tragedy. My question is, if the story is correct and this was “Not” an accident, how does a 10 year old kid ever get to a point where he feels it is ok to shoot anyone, let alone his own mother, in the head? I can’t believe that kids are just born bad enough to do something like this. There are a lot of circumstances here that are unknown. This kid had to have been seriously abused physically and mentally to get to this point at the age of 10.

I blame a really crappy parenting job on this one. Maybe we should have to get a license to have kids. You should have to pass a mental exam and renew it often just like a drivers license.

Realistically, any number of negative motivations and influences could be at work here. If I were to speculate and blame anyone, I’d blame California for violent TV & Movie programming. I’d blame the Japanese Video gaming industry and Silicon Valley, CA for violent video game programming. Yes, I’d blame schools for Godless, morality deficient curriculums. I’d question parental influence as well. it’s always possible the boy was just born bad, but it is highly likely the above influences, and yes, peer pressure are considerations. Perhaps some leftist psychologist will blame religion and even God in some way, but that would certainly be an adulterated view of the good God I know.

So what you’re really saying is that bad parenting is to blame, because going down the “it was that vile rock and roll’s fault” (or whatever bugaboo you wanna inject) road is tired and lazy. By your rationale, we need more govt. intervention? Never miss an opportunity to take advantage of a tragedy, right? Maybe we should just ban children… or give them up to the well-meaning agents of govt.

Why would an unruly child have access to both a .22 and bullets? My kids weren’t allowed to keep ammo for their weapons ’til well into their teens. I guarantee you the child was thwarted on something and this is what he decided his mother deserved. Nothing can be more evil at times than an angry, vindictive child. I know… I was one and my mother LOVES to remind me of it.

I think it’s time to reconsider the possibilities of demonic possession. When you see so many deeds of stone cold inhumanity, malignant callousness and depravity, you have to wonder if we really know anything about human behavior. These kinds of crimes mark the 20th and 21st Centuries more than any other period.

Check out ‘The Story of the Soviet Union’ on The Right Scoop. I was reduced to tears of rage and grief.

I probably shouldn’t jump to conclusions, but this story makes me wonder what she did/was doing to him. This kid seems pretty young to be committing this kind of crime, especially against his own mother. I guess we will have to wait and see as more facts come out. Poor family.

You nailed it when you asked “Where is the father????”

It‘s not about God and it’s not about Bush. It’s about men cranking out kids and wandering away, and women cranking out kids and thinking they’re equppied to play both parental roles.

If there is anyone to blame, I lay it at the feet of the Femi-Nazi movement!

Get GOD back into the schools, the government, the public square. It is well documented that juvenile misbehavior has gone up, and educational performance gone down, since the early 60′s rejection of the Ten Commandments and prayer from public schools.

Blazers, lets not get too hasty on responding to this….it could range from a wide number of reasons…from either a degenerate boy who didn’t get his way to a boy who was so mistreated that he felt he had no other choice. I will withhold comment until more facts are known.
And by the way, commenting in a sarcastic way that “it was Bush’s fault” every time this happens is NOT constructive, it is the same tactic Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton use to perpetuate racism. So how bout s*^tcanning that noise? We don’t need it, and it is unoriginal anyway.
