She’s a Hit: ‘Sarah Palin’s Alaska’ Rakes In Record Ratings

Love her or hate her, no one can deny that Sarah Palin is a star. The former Alaska governor‘s book helped her conquer the nation’s bestsellers lists and now, Palin and her family are turning Alaska’s beautiful scenery and everyday American family drama into ratings gold.

In case you missed it, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” debuted Sunday evening on TLC amidst promising reviews. The show played as a nonpolitical look inside the Palin family’s life with stunning Alaskan vistas. (Although, true to form, hints of Palin‘s conservative roots were visible at times and her preference for one particular cable news channel didn’t go unnoticed.)

TLC was happy to announce the show’s early success Monday:

TLC’s “SARAH PALIN’S ALASKA” DELIVERS 4.96M TOTAL VIEWERS

The premiere of TLC’s Sarah Palin’s Alaska (Sun, Nov 14, 9-10 p.m. ET/PT) garnered a 3.5 HH rating and delivered 4.96M P2+, 1.8M P25-54, 1.1M W25-54, 1.6M P18-49, 4.7M P18+ and 3.9M P35+, according to Nielsen fast nationals.

Sarah Palin’s Alaska is the #1 program launch in TLC history among HH and P2+ delivery, besting the What Not to Wear series launch in 2003, and posting triple digit rating and delivery gains vs. the prior six week prime average, and the 4Q10 to-date prime average.

Will Palin be able to pull another five million viewers next Sunday?  I guess we’ll just have to tune in to find out.

Oh, and in case you thought this more intimate look at Palin’s life would put to rest some of the absurd accusations that get hurled at her each day, think again.  The UK’s Independent claims to have found its “Aha!” moment in proving Palin is a fraud — and they didn’t even watch the show! Check out this in-depth analysis of the show’s trailer:

On 21 seconds, you will see Palin allegedly trying to catch salmon. Close examination of her equipment reveals that she is using a spinning rod and a reel (you can also see this in the screengrab above). This is significant: in the world of country pursuits, spinning is a dull and repetitive technique largely used by either children or complete beginners. Real afficianados prefer to fly fish, a more complex and absorbing style of fishing, which takes many years to master. …

Finally, on 1 minute 20 seconds, the camera cuts to a picture of her loading what appears to be a pump-action shotgun (a vulgar weapon that has no place in a civilised sporting armoury, though that’s another story). A seasoned shot would re-load their weapon with the muzzle facing towards the ground, for reasons of safety: if it accidentally goes off it won’t endanger anyone. She appears, however, to be holding it on her hip and waving it ahead of her like it’s a harmless toy. This is not the behaviour of someone who knows what they’re doing with a firearm.

From this admittedly-short trailer, I would therefore agree with Mr [Levi "Ricky Hollywood"] Johnston: the former Governor of Alaska has embellished her outdoorsy credentials, perhaps in an effort to appeal to red-necked portions of the Republican movement.

Well shooooooot.  Dat der little lady sure done fool‘d us ’publican rednecks!

    Sarah Palin shows us what real American used to be like. Tough, rugged, individuals who stand tall for the right reasons and not afraid to take a stand when the occasion arises. We can still be like that again. First, we must throw out this irresponsible corrupt socialist administration out on its ear. Then, bring in greats like Sarah Palin, Chris Christi, people who believe in the Constitution, love our and cherish our freedoms, believe in hard work without life long independence on welfare, food stamps, and FREE stuff. This is what made America great and this is exactly what will make us great again. I am so darn proud of Sarah I just can’t wait to see her go to Washington Of course she will have to wait for the fumigators to give a good cleansing to the White House from top to bottom, then its time to kick some tail feathers and get rid of the wimpy cowardly socialists who only want to destroy American while enrichening themselves. Enough is enough, and what a grand day it will be in 2012 when we get a real President. Praise the Lord!

    I admire Palin because she is honest and real. Even if you disagree with her politically, you can’t deny her forthright character. She has been bullied and maligned by the intolerant left and some of the elitists on the right, yet she stands tall with honesty and character. I would much rather disagree with someone that I know is being honest than fall in line like a bobblehead for someone whom I know to be a panderer and liar. Palin deserves respect, she has earned it.

    We vulgar rednecks know that you usually load a pump shotgun with the barrel up pointed in a safe direction, it’s not a side by side or over under. Also it’s a bit hard to have four people (especially little kids) all fly fishing in a small boat. small children learn to fish with a spin cast setup. So you sophisticated Brits can stuff it up your pompous arses as you know absolutely nothing about living in wilderness!

    Aside from her conservative credentials, Sarah Palin is a STAR in her own right. The Left despises her because they just can’t abide a “regular” person succeeding and stealing the hearts of millions. We regular folk, NON-ELITES, outnumber the self-appointed WIZZARDS OF SMART by a long shot. Sarah Palin IS US. And besides, she’s a HOT, HOT woman!     You’d have to be an idiot to fly fish from a boat with someone else, not to mention a chase boat full of camera crew. And yes, you invert a pump action shotgun and prop it on your reaction hip while loading it. I didn’t watch the show, but can guarantee she wasn’t on a skeet field.

    FIVE MILLION viewers. O’Reilly is probably jealous as Hell. He gets 2.9 million viewers on a good week.
    ABC-NBC-CBS-CNN-MSNBC are lucky if they hit 300,000.

They cannot understand how a conservative woman could be so popular with the American people after all of their attempts to marginalize and demean her. Keep tryin’, you crazy Progressives…..maybe John Kerry can get a show on Al Gore’s “G4” channel…..“Yachting With Horseface” or “How To Marry A Very Rich But Disgustingly Wretched Wife”. If it is any consolation to the Progressives, I still have my “Al Gore For President” port-a-potty……works just as good as the day I bought it.

    Prod to say that I fit into 2 PRIME demo’s, HH + (? whatever M47 is). It was a nice look @ Sarah, not Gov or canidate Palin. Seven more weeks of watching this series and I will proably be booking a vacation for AK to spread my wealth around AS I SEE FIT.

    Great for the Palin clan!!! Watched it… LOVED it! I love Alaska almost as much as I love the Great State of Texas.

    As for the British criticism… those poor Brits are about half a century away from losing their entire country to Muslim invaders. They would be wise to get back to the fundamental rights that may yet save their own country from complete annihilation by the third Jihad. They could learn a thing or two from Sarah Palin.

      You may be right! LOL… although, these folks are very patient and are using our own political correctness, laws, and institutions against us. They will strike as one when the time is right. I hope we never give them a chance. Europe is falling to Sharia law and is being overwhelmed by these nutjobs. You can see small signs within Europe that they are waking up. Germany is certainly on the rise against Islam.

      I loved the show with Sarah Palin. I’ve been to Alaska twice.. once for 2 months and once for 2 weeks.
      Often I tell people I’m tired of traveling but if I want to go anyplace, Alaska is my first choice. The people were wonderful, loved all the sights and travel. My mouth has salivated for bread from a bakery in TOK, Alaska. That was the best I‘ve ever eaten and can’t wait to get to Tok again.

      If anything I think this show makes her even less likely to be elected president. I respect the woman, but keep feeling like she is cashing in on her fame. This only stands to make her a more polarizing figure. Really it’s too bad.

    I’m surprised nobody knocked Sarah on what I thought they would: Sarah got awful whiny climbing the base of Mt. McKinley, I thought, and it made her look bad in a Diva-I’m-Only-Doing-This-For-The-Show-Kinda-Way…But then, you would have actually have had to have watched the whole episode to have caught that, because it came at the end of the hour.

      George tried to have this show not to even be seen. The Progressives will never stop so we can’t either. It‘s pretty sad their goal is to ’KILL AMERICA’ as we know it.

      Those publishers or journalists of the UK Independant do indeed know nothing of Palin, and even with fishing itself. Fishing indeed is repetative, and takes patience. Apperantly in the UK these guys seem to believe the fish just hook themselves the instant a lure is placed in the water, and they mention the joys of flyfishing.

      As a fisherman, I use a closed reel, and will not do flyfishing. To me, I want to catch the fish, and have a nice dinner afterward with the fish. Let these guys of the UK Independant come to Alaska or Arizona and go fishing here – maybe they will get some fun videos of their run in with the wildlife of the states respectively – bears and mountain lions.

      Well, if I were climbing Mt. McKliney (sp?), I probably wouldn’t have made it that far. For someone who is afraid of heights, she is someone to look up to for inspiration. Whatever she says or does, there will be someone (usually on the left) who will FIND SOMETHING WRONG.

      I thought piper was a little bit of a brat…reading alot post here and on Fox…either people really like her, or they REALLY hate her…I like her…I think she is like alot of eAmericans..I think she is honest, hard working and looking out for her family..and I believe she would look after America…unlike obama, who seems to have anything and everything on his mind except America…

      Reading the above expose‘ about Sarah Palin’s show, I found it comical. Comical because of the criticism of her using a spinning rod and the so call “Vulgar” pump shotgun. I’ve fished many years for salmon and salmon break fishing poles, on the contrary, the spinning rods and bait casting rods are the favored choices for these powerful fish to give the angler a fighting chance of landing it. Not a fly-rod, most feel those are toys for this big fighter. I hunted for almost 40 years and I and millions of other hunters use pump action shotguns for many different kinds of game, large and small. I own 3 myself. The writer must have been one that did their hunting and fishing at video arcades.
      Go Sarah, you can fix this mess the current leaders have gotten us into !!!
