She’s Back! Megyn Kelly Marks Return to Fox by Confronting Guest Who Criticized Maternity Leave

Fiery Fox News host Megyn Kelly has spent the summer on maternity leave after she and her husband welcomed their second child into the world. That ended today, when Kelly made a triumphant return after the birth of her daughter, Yardley. And even though she’s been out of the spotlight for three months, it was obvious Kelly hasn’t lost any of the charisma that has made her famous. Just look at how she handled a guest who criticized her taking maternity leave as a “racket.”

The controversial comments came from one of Kelly’s regular guests, Mike Gallagher. Apparently during her absence, Gallagher interviewed Kelly’s fellow Fox host, Chris Wallace, during his syndicated radio program and Kelly came up. That’s when Gallagher uncorked some not-so-flattering comments about maternity leave:

“What a racket that is. I mean men don’t get to bond [with their babies]. … Well, how much time does she get off after she has the baby? That’s unbelievable! Do you think you’d get three months off?”

Gallagher was obviously embarraseed, placing his hands in his head while Kelly played the audio. And later, he even (jokingly?) said the comments were the result of being drunk. Still, Kelly didn’t let him off easy, calling him a “pinhead” (while also donning a half-smile).

You can watch Kelly confront Gallagher below starting at about 3:30 below:

Later in the program, Kelly clarified that she and Gallagher are friends and that viewers should refrain from sending him hate mail, confirming that the segment — although stern — was not indicative of a major feud.

By the way, you can see Kelly introduce her new baby below — complete with pictures:

Well you may not like her but there is no denying that hottness. Calling others names for a difference in opinion doesn’t really instill a sense of confidence in your judgement. Plus you clicked the link. Odd really.

They probably know that already if you are the kind of person that begrudges a mere three months for a mother to give her child a good start in life. Guess your mom had you then dropped you off somewhere and went right back to work. That would explain your utter lack of compassion though.

The great thing is Megyn took his comment with great spirit and not as an insult. She did the right thing and teased him for his comments and made him feel just a tad embarrassed. Way to go Megyn.

I am a woman and I agree with Mike somewhat on the maternity issue. I do not know how you can run a business and have a percentage of your work force off for 3 months. What happens to continuity. There was someone to replace Megyn-but how about smaller businesses. Her comment about the rest of the modern world requires paid maternity. Well look at those countries now-most are imploding just because of programs like that.

Co-workers are left to pick up the slack while someone is on maternity leave, doing the work of 2 individuals.

I’m thinking that those co-workers would not have jobs to begin with if she hadn’t been there in the first place. I‘m also thinking that they wouldn’t have paid three months salary if they didn’t know what an asset they have in Megan. She could have asked for six months and gotten it easily but is too dedicated to exposing liberals like you to have done so.

Megan is beautiful, her kids are great, and she is an asset to Fox. However, Government mandated maternity leave is like any other government mandated issue…..it is not fair treatment of the total workforce, the government should not be telling a business how to handle it’s employees in such matters. If an employer wants to give maternity leave, more power to them.
And women wonder why they have a harder time than a man getting a job. No one has to worry about paying someone for sitting at home “bonding”. Besides, most of these privileged folks let the nanny do the work anyway….. at least until they are old enough to send off to “School” in Europe.

      I’ll say it again:

I agree with Gallagher to the extent that government mandated maternity leave is a racket. If private companies like Fox News want to pay their employees for bonding with their children, that is their right. But, in our feminized culture we have indoctrinated women to believe “they can have it all.” Why sure you can have a career and have a family. You can even ship the children off to daycare and have the taxpayers pay for it. Who cares that the children are left up to 10 hours a day in an amoral childcare program. It‘s a woman’s right to abort her children before they are born or abandon her children after they are born.

So, the children suffer and then society suffers from the behavioral problems of the children, but at least “we’re all equal now.”

Too many are simply jealous! Why would anyone think that Megan is anything but fortunate to work for a company that provides a new mother with a long paid leave! She has paid her dues and has worked her way up the ladder, now is the time for her to enjoy the fruits of her labor (pun intended!). If you want what she has earned…earn it!

I am not jealous. I have had three children and it took me only a couple of days to recover and a week to get a schedule down. I just don’t think it is fair for women to get to take off for three months. Perhaps a man could claim family time and do it, but the world moves too fast. I doubt he would have a job when he returned. Finally, my main beef is how she degraded herself posing for GQ many months ago. She is a very smart woman, but posing like she did kind of made her a bimbo in my opinion.

As a matter of fact I got out of the workplace to stay home with my children and because I didn’t think it was fair to my employer to miss so much work every couple of years until I was through building my family. I do not begrudge Megan for her successes. It is wonderful. BUT- as a woman, I feel like she degraded herself, by posing for GQ. And you are a twit for making such a nasty comment.

Gallagher is right however… what a racket some women have been afforded these days in the birthing dept. in some lines of work. When my wife gave birth, she was basically tossed out of the hospital after a day and a half, then was back to work in a week and half going back to wearing combat boots and Army fatigues back in the mid 70′s. No rest for the blue collar working class. Lol.

In most employment situations, fathers are also eligible for 12 weeks of unpaid leave under the FMLA just the same as women. Many people, both mothers and fathers, use sick or vacation time in order to continue to get paid. Sorry — more righteous indignation about a non-issue.
