Shock Interview: Sen. Scott Brown Admits He Was Sexually Abused as a Child

In a shockingly candid interview, Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., admitted to CBS News’ Lesley Stahl he was sexually abused by a camp counselor when he was just 10 years old during a pre-taped 60 Minutes interview.
The senator’s public revelation comes just before his memoir, Against All Odds, is set to be released.
“It was certainly, back then, very traumatic,” Brown said in a clip released by CBS Wednesday. “When people find people like me at that young, vulnerable age who are basically lost, the thing that they have over you is they make you believe that no one will believe you.”
Brown describes the incident as “very traumatic” and admits he never reported his abuser. The Republican senator also recalls suffering abuse at other points during his childhood, including from an abusive stepfather.
“I haven’t told anybody. That‘s what happens when you’re a victim. You’re embarrassed, you’re hurt,” he said.
Brown’s full interview is set to air Sunday at 7 p.m. on CBS.

We were not little kids who took crap from people in our childhood, I had little bro and sis and we were tight and still are and a tough little tribe frankly.
None of this stuff ever entered into our worlds and if someone even touched our sis they heard about it to this day. Our priest was like Robert DeNiro in Sleepers, just like him. We were athletes, football, baseball, karate, we did all that stuff as kids as did all the boys in our schools. They just did, there was no one I can recall that didn’t.
Again if it was me that day it would have been brought to my family, priest and school officials attention in a heartbeat! Especially when they had to sew that freaks sack and jewels back on if possible. Maybe because of sports we were tougher, I don’t know …but we weren’t targets I guess, because it never came close to happening.

I do not hate all priests not do I blame the Catholic Church. In fact, today I have nothing but sympathy for him. It is a horrible thing to go through and nobody should be subject to such abuse but there are sick people in the world. I chose to not let it get the best of me after I had been to the point of depression and suicide. Once I forgave him I was able to move on. There is my public non-book. He seems pretty well rounded. I wish him the best.

Posted on February 16, 2011 at 4:32pmIn all seriousness, I think it‘s a true test to someone’s healing when they can be so public about this kind of horrific abuse…perhaps it will give some young person the encouragement that they need to step forward about their own private nightmare…that being said, it also tells us a great deal about the psyche of Scott Brown…“recovery” from this type of childhood trauma is a life-long struggle…AND…my experience with people in “recovery” is that they often have very weak boundaries, could explain why he’s a RHINO…too bad! His TRUE RECOVERY will come when he’s strong enough to STAND FOR THE CONSTITUTION as it was written!

No it does not explain his liberal principles; it is his excuse for them, not the source of them save for his own brain rationalizing it that way. I have survived a nightmare at the hands of my uncle and nearly died for what he did to me.
And for the record, I am a conservative and constitiutionalist, not a liberal or progressive who have no idea of the difference between a sexual predator and something that needs to be eliminated from the human gene pool for good.

I have a son who had kept sexual abuse by a gang of boys when he was 11 years old bottled up inside for many years. Because he did not get the help that he needed to deal with what had happened to him, his life has taken some difficult turns. If Scott Brown helps just one boy, I say good for him for telling his story.
