In an incident that’s almost too unbelievable to be true, a Chinese girl on an electric bicycle collided with a massive truck — and survived. The horrifying crash, which occurred in Changshu City, China, was caught on surveillance video.
The high school student was riding her bicycle when the fully-loaded trailer truck ran a red light at a high speed. The two vehicles subsequently converged at an intersection. Luckily, the young woman survived and is currently recovering.
Watch the startling incident unfold, below (caution: graphic):

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 2:10pmI’ve seen worse in Irvine, CA. Loaded with Asian female drivers.
Report Post »I mean come on…how could she possibly see that huge truck going straight with no traffic on road and crossed diagonally into it? Could happen to anyone. Yeah, right.

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 9:37amGlad you said that. She may have been in the right but her driving was totally at fault. She had ZERO clue about what was going on around her. You cant drive just defensively, you must also drive offensively and watch your 6.

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 8:27amYou can clearly see that from the speed that the truck was going if he attempted to stop with the load he was carrying he would have ended up stopped in the middle of the intersection. You may not know this but it is allowed in the U.S. for a truck to run a red light if the driver cannot stop his truck in time to ckeep the intersection clear; however it is against the law to block the intersection. That girl should have looked both ways before crossing the street.

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 10:24amWhile I understand what you are saying about a truck being allowed to run a light, I wonder would the truck be at fault for any accident that occurred? Would it not be the responsibility of the driver to drive at slower speed when nearing an traffic light that could possibly be red or turn red?

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 5:56pmI agree when your driving a loaded truck it is hard to stop even if you are going 10 under the limit and the light has just turned. She just wasnt paying attention to her surroundings. Its a sad story, hopefully she will recover and learn to look both ways before attemting the long ride across the street.

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 4:57amIf the truck stayed in his lane, he easily could have moved slightly to the right and missed her. Why veer in the same direction she was moving?
Report Post »JJ Coolay
Posted on December 27, 2011 at 4:58amAnd what was she doing? She’s moving awfully slow and aimlessly through a huge intersection?
Report Post »csb9241
Posted on December 27, 2011 at 8:15am@JJ Coolay…If you would re read, it says the truck ran the red light. Not the girls fault. I’m sure by the time the truck realized he was gonna run it,he tried to swerve to miss but couldn’t.

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 1:52amWhile in Asia I was shocked not to see such accidents on every other street corner!! I saw scooters with three people on them cut right in front of our bus with feet to spare and then slam on their brakes with no regard that a bus was on their butt. I feel sorry for the girl who was injured. But, as a former motorcycle rider and current large pickup driver, the bike/motorcycle rider really needs to be extra vigilante if they want to stay alive. It doesn’t do any good to point fingers as to who was at fault if your dead. Riding motorcylces, my rule was to expect people to turn out in front of me, which they did, thus I’m still alive. Things are a bit differnent in Asia I reckon. Here: Drivers, look out for motorcycles/bikes, etc. Motorcycles, triple lookout for cars cause if you don’t, you could be dead.

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 9:32amI too have been to Asia and was absolutely frightened at how they drove there. It was amazing at how reckless the scooter drivers where and how little anyone seemed to care for the other drivers. They make California drivers look like Heavenly beings.

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 1:01amWow how could you not see the girl on the bike, unless the driver was tweeting some absurd text message while removing toe jam from the toostsies, I dont mean to make fun but the chinese are not known for there championship motoring and even turning in front of a mack truck was not the most intelligent thing to do. I think we should all get together and pitch in some bucks to replace the poor girls bike, any takers out there?

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 6:00pmHmmm this is problem on many levels and unfortunately many manufacturers are making the bikes about the “image,” low and underpowered to attract a less experienced non technical rider. This is what happens.

Posted on December 27, 2011 at 12:02amUm…the truck ran a red light. How on earth is this the girl’s fault? The fact that the truck ran a red light is WAY down in the SECOND paragraph. I realize it takes a herculean effort to read the all the way down to the third sentence but maybe you should have put forth the effort before making such a nonsensical comment.

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 5:45pmThis type of accident happens every day in America. CARS FAIL TO YIELD TO MOTORCYCLES. 60% of motorcycle accidents ar a motorcycle having the right of way and a car failing to yield or stop and making a left hand turn into traffic. The motorcyclist dies or has severe injuries and the motorist says sorry I didn’t see you.
Report Post »I think the drivers need some jail time, then they will actually look. In England they have good motorcycle awareness program, here they don’t care.

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 9:30pmRightin is more than correct. Here in L.A. (trying to get out of) the people on bicycles are even worse. I’m sorry, but if you are exposed to 2000-4000+ pound moving metal objects that take much more time to stop then you need to be aware of what is going on around you… I don’t bring sling shots to paint ball matches and expect the paint ball guys to give me special treatment. It’s hard enough to deal with the guys shooting at me, and then I am expected ‘yield’ to the sling shot guy? Really?
Report Post »GrumpyCat
Posted on December 26, 2011 at 10:33pmI am a very experienced motorcycle rider. Its not clear from the video that the truck was at fault. In fact it was already swerving to avoid her as the video starts. Sadly chose to veer left in front of her expecting her to stop rather than veer to the right and go behind her (which would have hit her had she stopped).

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 5:11pmCHINA? Really? Does the Blaze have someone permanently tied to a chair staring at YOUTUBE vids telling him/her that if she/he doesn’t produce at least ONE China vid a day they will not be fed? More stories for the National Inquirer arm of The Blaze. There are stories that affect us here going on all the time. I can and DO go to other sites for stories like this. Brietbart and Drudge pull some like this but they carry more stories than here. So your percentage of ‘eye grabbers’ are higher. Strange, no typo’s so it originated here.

Report Post »mmabri
Posted on December 26, 2011 at 5:16pmStop blaming the victim. How do you know she didn’t even look left? The truck ran the redlight. From where she was in the intersection if she even saw the truck she wouldn’t of had time to react. She was on an electric bicycle going what 20mph at tops? Truck doing what 40 to 50mph? You may think she is dumb, but your statement was ignorant.
Report Post »Twobyfour
Posted on December 27, 2011 at 5:31amIt’s not blaming the victim. Physics and common sense. It’s better to be aware of the surroundings than dead (she’s lucky, being dead is the usual outcome of similar accidents). Her speed was quite low, if she paid attention, she may have avoided the collision, either by stopping or by changing the direction. It’s possible that she froze with panic.
The truck driver should have tried to go to the right while braking–not slamming as that may have unpredictable result. A lot of drivers make the same mistake–they go to the left and step on the gas.
Report Post »Twobyfour
Posted on December 27, 2011 at 5:42ammmabri, disagree. She did barely 15mph and had enough time to react if she paid attention. The point here is not to direct the blame (already established–truck running red light) but to stay alive. Physics is a harsh master.

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 4:54pmThe truck ran a red light it states so my question is do the chinese enforce their traffic laws when this happens or is it part of just being on the road? I would love to know what happened to the truck and the driver.
Report Post »johnsell
Posted on December 26, 2011 at 5:20pmIf you replay the beginning, you will see that the girl is traveling in the same direction as the truck and cutting diagonally to the left toward the truck, so if the truck ran a red light then so did she. She very lucky to be alive and will survive to hopefully observe her environment better in the future.
Report Post »mmabri
Posted on December 26, 2011 at 7:55pm@John – You need to watch the video again truck was coming from a different direction entirly. She was making a turn from the other street barely in camera view. The truck ran the red light at the intersection. She had the green.
