Is this really “what democracy looks like”?
Wisconsin state Republican Sen. Glenn Grothman found himself in a frightening situation at the Wisconsin State Capitol after being tailed and cornered by a large group of angry protesters who screamed and hurled curses at him as he tried to enter the building. Fortunately, a Democratic state assemblyman — Rep. Brett Hulsey — stepped in to help.
The video contains protesters chanting “Shame!“ and ”You suck!”* (WARNING: There is the possibility of some strong language in the background)

Just let them keep doing this, I say. Why interfere? Their actions and words are going to be far more effective at proving our point than ours ever could be. Just let them go and prove what we’ve been saying all this time.
Aren’t you happy about this? I’m ecstatic. It‘s what I’ve been waiting for… let ‘em go. They are doing all the work for us now.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 2:12amRevDarwinEllis & PAPAROACH, are you daft? Why are you getting angry over this? Do you think they are damaging you, or themselves by acting like this?
You need to learn how to cut through your emotions and think, if only for a second.
“When are we going to stand up and start droppin these stupid hippies?”
The liberal media would pounce on that. What good would it do you? Do you think mobs of angry Tea Partiers surrounding these people would be good or bad for your image? Would it damage their argument, or yours? The media is looking for anything to shift their attention to. That would be their Holy Grail. Use your brain.
“They are taking our kindness for weakness and just like any snake, meekness is looked at as a weakness and then they strike.”
Strike what? Their own feet? Because that’s all I see happening here. They are just backing up everything we’ve been saying, and getting it all on camera. The figures are on your side, as well as the social aspect now. Everyone knows this is unsustainable, and now everyone sees these people for what they are: an undereducated, overpaid, greedy mob.
“I think it may be time for the truly strong to stand up and confront these weak hippies and put them in their place!”
FACEPALM
Do everyone else a favor and stay off the streets next time there’s a Tea Party rally.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 7:01amIf you pause that and grab scene shots, the senator is right in another interview: these are not teachers, police or even mostly union protestors. They are college students, markists and anacharist taking advantage of a situation. I find it hard to believe that a normal teacher (not one that has been radicalized) or police officer would act in this manor. I took a class in college called “Mass communitions” and it talked about mob mentality. The instigators just have to start acting a certain way and people will follow that mob mentality and do things in a mob that they wouldn’t normally do. So throw in a few communists acting out and there you go. Where were the police doing their job?

People can’t just sit on their duffs watching all this happen and think tomorrow it will go away. It won’t until the bill is passed someway. Longer you wait the harder and worst it will get. Normally I would agree with this burning out; yet I have a hunch we are just seeing the beginning of a storm, one being manufactured by the progressives and their allies to the detrement of all about the nation. Too many diverse groups are converging unto a common centeral point, the Constitution and the ideals of freedom and liberty embodied within it. This is the one final ideal they need desperatly to destroy and change into their nightmares made real unto the land and the world.
Daily the potential for instigated violence is growing…and one saying of Jesus in the bible keeps coming back to me where he mentioned of kingdom against kingdom and nation against nation…the part of nation fighting one against the other is known throughout history; what most people will miss though, is the kingdom v kingdom is not about empires; it is about ideals of freedom v tyranny, of religion by choice, v that of by the sword.
This is the war of ideals, and of faith, that is why I fear we are on the edge of a dramatic clash to happen in the land, and we need to pray it will only be of words and not of fists.

I appreciate your desire for a civil outcome to all of this, but civility is the last thing on their minds. When the liberals and unions (one in the same in most cases) realize they are loosing their stronghold on this country, they will resort to violence. We have to be ready to defend ourselves. The situation is now so far out of control it will take physical action to bring things back under control. Otherwise, its over.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 2:18am@Snow,
I take your point and understand why you might feel that way, but I base my view on the following:
Greta van Susteren interviewed the WI majority leader today who said (this is not exact as I’m reading between the lines) that some of the dems are looking for a facesaving way of returning. He would not name names and said that the bill is non-negotiable but they are considering something else down the track.
We had a similar thing in NZ when compulsory unionism was banned. There was a great hullaballoo until it was passed and then further organised protest was obviously foolish. When the average worker realised that the end of the world did not arrrive, as was predicted by the unions, it was over. Subsequent left wing governments did not return to compulsory unionism as the idea had lost all credibility. NZ workers were as well off, if not better off, and industrial action dramatically decreased. This is not to say that there are now no strikes or other action, but it is all much more reasonable.
I believe the same thing will happen in Wisconsin. There is still a lot more noise and posturing to go through, though, but the result is inevitable.

The American Constitution is, in my opinion, the finest political document ever written. It is solely responsible for making your nation pre-eminent in the world, and your citizens the people that they are. At the end of the day all Americans know this, and that is why I doubt that your fears will become reality.

They are on the outside of the building. There’s a subway, panera bread, some mobile food stands, hell there is even an older Korean woman that sells really good egg rolls on the North West corner of the Capitol, and others all within a block from the Capitol building. They can go get food when ever they would like. Its the ones inside the building that refuse to come out that can’t. A disingenuous argument

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 8:39amI sure respect the protestors freedoms! To assemble and speak, that is their American right! There is no RIGHT to collective barganing, not even a law, for public unions. There is a law for private unions to CB, however, I think THAT law is unconstitutional.
The anger seems to be mounting, the vitriol expanding, but I hope cooler heads prevail. I pray for our country, may God Save America! Unions need to stand down, legisltors need to come back to work, WE need to settle our differences peacefully, work things out together and NOT FIGHT each other, our true enemies want this!

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 8:51amWe are dealing with Community Organizers. We are dealing with professionals at infighting riots and unrest. Ironically it is well documented not by conservatives but rather the Left. These morons left a clear path for all they intent to do. Glenn have told you what books to read to prepare but what he has not told you is that there literally thousands of other sources of information that chronicle this and their motive.
Learn, Educate and Be ready.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 9:34amNZKIWI – your posts are good, with hopeful words and all of that, but you see the real problem is Progressivism is here, which is just a wolf in sheeps clothing for Communism, IE the Fabian Socialists among us, have taken over our Gov’t, and is seeping ever so deeply into our society. We have to defeat this incidious ideology once and for all, preferrably via the VOTE, but if they go violent and things get out of hand, we will as US citizens have to do our duty and defend the Constitution FIRST and LAST!!! As you say, it IS the finest document ever written by man These people and groups are actively transforming America now, and have been brainwashing a whole generation of kids, against the very kernel of our REPUBLIC, and that must be STOPPED! Hopefully, via legislation, abolish the Dept of Ed for starters, the list is too long for this forum. But I for one, do appreciate your comments, support and hopeful words, I hope you are right, but I am prepared if you are wrong.
God Save America!.

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 10:58amI understand the right to protest and peacefully assemble, but these demonstrations have gotten way out of hand. These protesters are being very threatening, bullying and are basically persecuting these Republicans senators for doing their jobs and doing what they were elected to do. This kind of behavior would not be tolerated in, around or surrounding the Senate or Congress of the United States. It is one thing to protest, but to surround areas where these Senators and assemblymen must pass is ridiculous. They cannot even enter and do business in the chamber without being distracted and harassed by these thugs. Just like the Westboro Baptist Church these protesters should not be allowed such close proximity to the Capital. You sure cannot go and surround the White House and harass and intimidate the President so why is this allowed?

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 12:24pmI doubt if anybody will read this since the thread is already so long, but here’s the inside scoop on the apparent total lack of police presence. There are two things going on: Dane County Sheriff David Mahoney called his deputies off the capitol building duty because, he said, it is not their job to act as “palace guards”. Then, according to an anonymous source within the Madison PD, there is a conspiracy to NOT arrest any of the protestors. The capitol police? The state patrol? No clue where they were when this was going on. The inside of the capitol building (still holding a thousand or so protestors who were never kicked out or who were let back in) did have an enormous police presence, according to one video I saw during the Walker budget speech. But outside…. not so much.

Where were the police escorts – bangin drums with their union brothers? Where’s the outrage from the LameStream Media???? More importantly, I just hope the rank and file true American union members come to their senses soon and see who is representing them and the socialist party that is instrumental in these protests. And I pray the American people see through the union leadership’s desperate efforts to hold on to power. Power that benefits only them – not the rank and file, not the school children. This is crime!

Some of the new cuts came out yesterday…..holy Moses……the Liberal Milwaukee Mayor Barrett (whom Walker beat) is whining because Walker didn‘t put collective bargaining in there for the police and fire and that’s more than 50% of his budget (plus his school board ram rodded through its contracts so he’s locked in to it for the teachers)……go figure a LIBERAL crying that he’s still got to deal with collective bargaining! He also capped tax increases for all cities and counties (sales and property) and froze the amount they can spend per child in the schools! By the time he’s finished, those Fleebaggers won’t even be welcomed back by their constituents!!

Posted on March 2, 2011 at 8:37pmThis is absolutely disgusting. I would march right beside Sen. Grothman to provide myself as a shield. Read John Steinbeck’s “In Dubious Battle.” The mob is made to become a living, pulsing creature. When it tastes blood, it attacks. The goal of the union bosses is to have that blood, that sacrifice, in order to make that example and create change. Just listen to the beat of the drums, the crowding around Sen. Grothman, see his grey hair, all alone. Of course, the “mob” that responds/reacts just may be some of us who back Gov. Walker in Wisconsin. We see “the blood,” the energy, if you will, and back away from our core beliefs. The unions bosses would like that to happen. It’s going to be rough. We have to be strong.
