DETROIT (AP) — Officials say a stunt wing walker has died after falling about 200 feet at an air show in southeastern Michigan.
A spokesman at Selfridge Air National Guard Base says wing walker Todd Green was trying to move from a plane to a helicopter when he fell Sunday at the base in Harrison Township, about 20 miles northeast of Detroit.
Technical Sgt. Dan Heaton says the accident happened about 1:30 p.m. He says an ambulance rushed Green to Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center. Hospital spokeswoman Diane Kish says Green died from his injuries.
The air show began Friday and ended Sunday.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 10:13pmI hate it when that happens, but it‘s not the site’s fault. The video was removed by the youtube account that posted it (probably at the request of the stuntman’s family) Yet the Blaze should just delete this thread altogether.

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 2:21amWhat hasn’t been reported (but I got off of local Michigan news) is that this guys father had also been a wing walker .. he knew what the risks were and what he was doing .. just thought I would add this fact into the discussion.

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 6:31amTHAT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME IN NEWS SITES…
You have people taking away their videos, copyrights enacted and videos removed, all different reasons. The best thing to do is make that video your own.
Breitbart started doing this, making videos his own. Like when a CNN host talks of overthrowing our govt in order to put in a parliamentary system. Outrageous: http://www.americanparchment.com/video/2011/aug/zakaria_parliament_superior.html

I am sad for you on the second
The third is none of our business.
The wing walker died doing what he loved to do, may i be so fortunate. Rest in peace sir.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 8:50pmVery sad. But people should have the choice to do this kind of thing.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 11:09pmHauschild, I was there he had about 4 seconds before he hit the ground as it was a very low altitude stunt. I was completely baffled and shocked at the incident today. But like many have said before, he died doing what he loved to do, may I be as fortunate. God bless him, and I give my prayers to his wife and son. And two the two pilots as they will be in need of much support over the coming weeks.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 8:42pmI have a hard time feeling sympathy for a person who knowingly put themselves in this position. I find it selfish and reckless to risk your life and destroy your loved ones lives for something you didn’t have to do. We should avoid risk, not seek it.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 9:39pmPeople will die tomorrow .. in a car going to work .. crossing a street … doing any number of things .. this man died doing something he chose to do .. condolences to the family and friends .. but we all will die someday .. hopefully doing something we like .. or God willing old age. He I am certain knew the risks . … and people have been doing these types of stunts since the beginning of aviation.
Freedom to live and do what you want .. what a wonderful idea. I pray we can hold onto it .. the government regulates too much of life as it is.
Once again prayers for family and friends .. and the man who lost his life .. doing what he must have loved.

Personally I assess the risk to the best of my ability; then make a risk/reward evaluation. I WILL NOT have someone arbitrarily tell me something “is to dangerous”.
If anything; give me all the information available and let me make my OWN DECISION.
that is what the wingwalker did his choice.

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 12:25amBS. He wasn’t going to work! He was trying to walk from a flying airplane to a flying helicopter.
The man was an @$$. Died “doing what he loved” is still dead.
And nothing says ” I couldn’t care less about my family” more than a stunt like this does.

Sad.
There is nothing ever good about a good person having his life end prematurely.
May God Bless him and his family.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 8:40pmWhat’s with all the air show death stories and crashes…..sounds like they are going to try to set up a ban of air shows or something those lines.
While yes it is sad that these deaths do happen, when I was a child I dreamed of being a pilot. And it would have been extra cool if I were an air show pilot, and on top of that If I died while living my dreams I would have been happy to go out that way.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 8:31pmIt`s that old problem with gravity, we weren`t meant to fly. And if you are going to fly it`s best to stay inside the plane.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 10:32pmdamn…surely he could have had some sort of little emergency chute…or tethered somehow… i dont’ like to fly much less walk on the darned thing not something i would go out to see

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 8:30pmPulling a stunt like that he should of had a chute…check this out of a skydiver going from one glider to another, Amazing video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zok7LltWU0E

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 9:18pmI’ve seen two skydivers swap airplanes via freefall with the both of the planes in dive. They were most concerned with the prop on each plane should freefall/plane dive speed vary too much.

Posted on August 22, 2011 at 12:27amA chute would have done no good at all. It takes several hundred feet for a parachute to deploy. It wouldn’t have even had time to slow him down. If it took him 4 seconds from the time he fell to he impacted, you’d figure at best it would have taken him 2 seconds to realize he was falling, then at least 2 seconds to pull his ripcord. That would leave him……flat.

Posted on August 21, 2011 at 8:12pmI guess he knew going in. Sometime I wonder if it bravery or stupidity. I suppose it takes a lot of courage and a need to bring home the bacon. R.I.P.
Report Post »VShagios
Posted on August 21, 2011 at 8:16pmI think this would be stupidity. There is really no reason to move from a plane to a helicopter. Bravery would involve doing something dangerous because it has to be done.
