The passenger in a minivan that was juicing up at an Akron, Ohio, gas station caught the sight of their life last Thursday. What they saw, which was also caught on a Marathon gas station camera, was a large semi-truck losing control, sliding through a stop light and slamming into the gas pump just next to them.
The incident, according to ABC 15, resulted after the 35-year-old driver tried to make a left turn, shifting the load inside and throwing the rig out of balance. Surveillance footage shows the semi going through the stop light, passing two cars that appear to be st0pped there, and flipping onto its side before hitting the gas station pump. It also shows passengers at the gas station rushing out of their car to help the driver of the truck and the reaction of store employees inside.

Watch the scene for yourself:
There were no injuries as a result of the crash. ABC 15 does report the SUV at the stop light suffering some damage.
The headline of this story has been corrected to say “rogue” and not “rouge”.

Posted on July 11, 2012 at 6:39pmThe article says a shifting load caused this; however, he was going WAyY too fast and as such – he caused this crash. Glad everyone escaped without serious injury.
Me? Class A driver.

I am not sure what your regular news-source is, but regardless, I would say that if a journalist can not spell or properly grammaticize (Dictionary.com says that is a word, but the Blaze has the red line under grammaticize), that would be equivalent to a nuclear engineer that can not count.
If the nuclear engineer can not count, then this leaves you to wonder, what else might be amiss in their work.

Posted on July 10, 2012 at 8:45amYou really can’t tell if he lost his brakes in the picture or not. There is the possibility that he lost his brakes, seeing that he is coming down a hill. The hill is not of a sufficient grade to cause a truck to burn out its breaks, however. It usually takes at least a long 5% grade for that to happen. But if the brakes are not properly adjusted, almost any hill will be dangerous (I am an expert on this, having lost my brakes three times driving semis – a real horror show that you will never want to experience). From the bulging of the trailer top, he seems to have had a load. There are no skid marks that can be seen or smoke coming from his brakes. However, you cannot lock up the trailer tires in a sufficiently loaded and weighted trailer. I am guessing that his brakes somehow failed, possibly his blue line popped off, disabling his trailer brakes. The bigger lesson here is to never build a home or business at the end a T intersection.

Posted on July 10, 2012 at 10:54amwith air brakes when you loose them they lock up, that is what air brakes are the air doesn’t lock the brakes it keeps them from locking

Posted on July 10, 2012 at 7:45amI think the driver had no brakes , but i think he was very skillfull, in not only the fact he hit no other cars he passed and went thru the intersection not hitting anyone and did his best to ditch the truck as safely as he could considering it could have been the store and luck was on his side the pumps didnt blow.

Posted on July 10, 2012 at 5:40amAfter poring over the video it looks as if the rouge trucks’ breaks failed, causing the driver to loose control. Sea wear it blows threw the intersection, in between the too stationery cars, and then makes the left. Perhaps it was reigning?

Posted on July 10, 2012 at 2:09amThe worst case scenario that had the best outcome. That was one good truck driver that managed to steer between the cars like that. If he would have hit those pumps, I’m sure a whole different outcome would have occurred.

Report Post »He did not lose brakes. Air keeps them ON. IF he had lost air pressure he would have been smoking those brakes coming down that hill!
This is a case of driver stupidity, inattention and carelessness!
He’s speeding we see that. He swerves to miss the auto stopped at the light and even IF he was loaded and the load shifted that truck was still going on it’s side. I believe the truck was empty because the truck weighs about 32,000 pounds empty. IF there was any load #1 the pumps would not have stopped that unit AND #2 with that amount of G force or weight in motion (law of perpetual motion) freight would have gone through the roof and that pump would not stop it that fast. I see the usual collapsing/buckling of a trailer when slammed on it’s side but no evidence of a shifting load. I’d have to see pictures of a load before I believed that. Yes, you see the left rear wheels come off the ground but that’s normal with a hard turn at the speed he was driving. Any driver can make the tires come off the ground with an MT trailer just by screwing around with the steering.
Again, I’ll bet when all is checked out he was not paying attention to driving but something else and I bet we know what that was unless he was asleep at the wheel!
