Shocking Video: NYC Cabby Tries to Drag Passenger Out of Cab

Shocking Video: NYC Cabby Tries to Drag Passenger Out of CabHere’s the law in New York City: if a yellow-cab cabby picks you up, he has to take you anywhere within the five burroughs. But there are a lot of cabbies who don’t really like that rule, and if you tell them to take you somewhere you want to go, they’ll refuse. Many times, the passenger will just throw up his arms in disgust and get out. But that’s not what these two girls did.

Below is video of two female passengers who hailed a cab in Midtown Manhattan and asked to be taken across the East River to Brooklyn. The cabby refused and screamed at them to get out. They wouldn’t. Then this happened. The audio is chilling:

[Content Warning: Contains graphic language]

NY Post says the two ladies are Michelle, 31, and Amy, also 31 who tried to catch the ride on Sunday. They asked their last names not be used because they are afraid of the cabby. More from the Post:

“I kept saying, ‘You have to. It’s the law,’ ” recounted Michelle, who works for an Internet company. “He kept screaming at us to ‘get out, get out,‘ but we wouldn’t.”

“Then he said, ‘You’re gonna be sorry!’ and took off up Sixth Avenue,” she added.

“He was driving erratically, doing the ‘gas-and-brake’ thing, going in and out of lanes,” said Amy, an editor. “He was swearing, calling us ‘bitches.’ He was very angry.”

The driver then turned onto 48th Street, the women said, and pulled over. He got out, popped his hood and tried to lure them out of the cab, telling them the cab was “broken,” they said.

When his passengers didn’t fall for it, he got back behind the wheel, drove another few feet and stopped again.

He flung open the back door and then lunged when he saw he was being videotaped on a cellphone.

After the hack backed off, he approached “four or five” other cabs to take the women to Bed-Stuy, and finally found one. They gave that driver $35 for a $25 fare.

The cabby has been identified and the Taxi and Limousine Commission is investigating the incident.

I am a cabbie. If I don’t want you in my car, you won’t be there for long, and no I won‘t take you someplace I don’t want to go. Trying to force cabbies to take obviously dangerous passengers to obviously dangerous places is a crime. For that matter, so is the price fixing common in communist cities like New York. I thank God I live in a place where there is little danger and a free market in transportation.

The taxi drivers must be lawyers or government employees.
They don’t want to do any real work or follow any of the laws.

I always thought the cab driver had discretion on who he picks up and where he takes them. For safety reasons. This is a prime example of the NY attitude. These ladies became part of the problem and allowed it to escalate in to what it became. If the driver don’t want to take you somewhere, then find another taxi. Not that hard to do in NYC, im sure.

In many large cities, there are large areas where one wouldn’t want to be caught walking or biking through. Day OR night! Cabs are a combination of safe and quick/flexible for those city-dwellers that can afford it. Those that can’t hop a turnstile on the subway. The bus systems are typically a mess, nearly as risky as the subway and not nearly as fast.

Due to unions, many city cab companies & drivers operate under a combination (often conflicting) of some pretty strange laws, regulations, and union rules. All this bureaucratic minefield has one thing in common: it has little to nothing to do with making taking a cab cheaper, more useful, or a better experience for passengers.

Since THE NYC gubmint can’t / wont secure the area and make it safe, the taxi drivers fear for their safety and don’t want to get robbed or killed.

Kate It’s MOSTLY because not of this Middle Eastern cabbie who was obviously still mad about Bin Laden getting offed, it‘s the ones who won’t go into Harlem that they’re trying to make go there (even though half end up robbed and or dead) and the surrounding ghettos that the law was written for.

That’s a fact, the non PC version. ;)

Generally I believe they get paid whatever is left after the cab rental fee and fuel… so say they get $500 in fares that day… they pay a $200 rental fee and $60 in gas… the keep $240 + whatever tips…

Thanks guys, I have never lived in a big city and have never been anywhere near NY. I have rarely taken a cab anywhere so not taking a fare doesn’t seem to make any sense. I didn‘t even think about Harlem and whatever other nasty parts of NY the cabbie wouldn’t want to drive into. Is Brooklyn bad?

I promise to proof my comments better so hopefully you will never see me type the words like rufuse (refuse) or the (they).

The last time I caught a cab was in state of New Jersey. The cab driver was wearing Taqiyah so I would assume that he was a Muslim.

He looked at me and noticed that I was wearing a Star. After seeing the Star I was wearing, he behaved as though he were a Vampire that had just seen a cross.

He did take me to my destination but never spoke another word.
