Shock Video Shows Fla. Gunman Opening Fire on School Board Members

As we reported earlier, Clay Duke, a Florida man whose wife had been recently fired by the local school system, took matters into his own hands Tuesday as he entered a Bay County school board meeting armed with a handgun. After school board members tried to talk Duke down, he raised his pistol and began firing randomly at the seated school board members.

He missed all of them. A security guard then shot and wounded Duke. At that point Duke killed himself.

Video from the meeting captured the white-knuckle moments at each stage.

In this video, Superintendent Bill Husfelt continues to talk to the gunman, now indentified as Clay Allen Duke.

“I have a feeling you want the police to come in here and kill you,” Husfelt is heard telling Duke.

At one point School Board member Ginger Littleton was able to sneak up behind the gunman. She hit him with her purse:

In this video, you’ll see Superintendent Bill Husfelt consoling Mike Jones, the safety officer who shot the gunman, now identified as Clay Allen Duke.

Jones was not injured by any gunfire, but was taken to Bay Medical Center with chest pains. He is listed in stable condition.

      Ahhh, so I wasn’t the only one that noticed this. I also thought that something wasn’t right when that woman tried to knock the gun out of the shooters hand with her purse – very “staged like”. I mean, really?

      I’m not the conspiracy theory type, but this looked like a fictitious event designed to nudge people into anti-gun thinking afresh.

      Disarmament of the citizenry “for their own safety” will come soon enough.

      Yeah, I know, I’m a paranoid idiot…….

      Everyone freezes in a sudden disaster, even if only for a second. People who have never known violence freeze for much longer. It kind of looked like the rest of the board was using the ole “if I don’t move, he won’t see me” maneuver.

      The woman with the purse blew my mind. It wasn’t much of a plan without some help from the others, but it was epic bravery on her part. Thank God he didn’t shoot her for that.

      Not amazing at all that they took so long to duck. When you’re in that situation, and someone shoots, you assume you’re dead and just sit there stunned at first, totally not believing this is going on. It’s referred to as deer-in-the-headlights, you may have heard of it. Shock makes you freeze up totally at first. You guys have seen too many movies where the people knew to duck because the shot was in the script. People in real life do not react like on t.v. and in the movies. They aren’t so predictable as that. Some duck, most stand totally still, not diving for cover at first. The video actually helps to prove this is a real event, not some made-up scenario.

    I can see the TSA’s eyes lighting up now! New headline: TSA moves machines to public schools!!! Funded by Soros and approved by Obummer with the package deal of new patrol bill. “We have to spend $500 billion on new guard patrols for all public schools”. The unions will definitely want their hands in on it, so the guards will be union!!! We are all fuct!!!

How you people can turn a story about a mentally ill enraged gunman into a political diatribe is the reason I read the posts here. It’s very entertaining and quite revealing of the racist and violent underbelly of The Tea Paty movement.

    What ever happened to fight or flight? Every one of those people had the opportunity to attack once he turned his back to see who hit him. They also had the opportunity to run out of the room. I applaud the lady that attempted to knock the gun out of his hand. She risked her life for them and they didn’t do anything to help her. This whole situation could have ended differently. Amazing!

      Yes! You’re absolutely right. Who says you have to obey a bad guy? They should have all started screaming early in the video and all rushed him at once. Tell me the things to do. Throw a coat over his head. Knock his knees. Poke his eyes. Throw shoes at him. Climb on his back. Kick his front. Twist his arm. 10 people all at once. I thought we learned that from the 9/11 airline hostage stuff. If this guy had a real gun, he could have shot everyone in the room. If 10 people rushed him, he might have only shot one.

    Unfortunately for some they think that the answer lies in a gun. But most of the time all it does is cause more trouble. Its too bad that someone usually has to die before they learn. But thank God that the only one hurt was the gunman. Please keep his wife in your prayers. She just lost her job and now her husband.

      You can see that he really did not want to kill anyone or he would have. He is like MANY people out here at the end of their rope with no where to turn and just does not know what to do. you have some people running around seemingly unfased by the econamy and others like him crushed by it. class war fare ? the same thing happened in France, the rich kept getting richer and the poor kept getting poorer until the poor had no choice but to lash out. they are very lucky that he was not serious about killing someone.

    I carry concealed at all times. I would have been forced to take him out. Kudos to the guy that tried to talk him down. Don’t know if I can be that calm with a gun in my face. The unions are most likely the cause of this .

      The school resource officer bailed on the helpless school board members. This is a “poster child” reason for trained CCW. They should not have waited until this nut started taking shots before they responded. It should have sounded like, “Sir, drop the gun, drop the gun, drop the..pop..pop..pop..pop..pop..pop..pop”

      Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice, & there is no additional paperwork for the second shot.

      The ‘resource officer’ did not bail on them as someone on here has said. I live here locally where the action occured and have been watching the local news do interview after interview. Apparently the officer was in his office on the fourth floor of the building when he heard about the gunman. The entire meeting is televised throughout the building on close-circuit t.v., so he could see all that was going on in the room. I believe he may have gone to his truck to get his bullet-proof vest, though he may have had that inside with him. Unsure yet if he had his gun on him the whole time, but he‘s allowed to have his gun in the building because that’s his job. When the guy could not be talked down and began to fire, the officer fired upon him and injured him, and the man shot himself in the head (real bullets, far as I know, not blanks, as was first thought).

      @EMRYS…with all due respect, at about 3:27 into the video, a man comes into the room, off camera, and identifies himself as the school safety officer. If I misstated in my previous post “school resource officer” I apologize for the error in semantics. Regardless, an officer without a firearm???..even with a firearm, cannot be omnipresent.

      What? I don‘t think I’ve ever once seen anyone on these boards call for an assassination or armed violence. Most people on these boards do not conodone that kind of action unless it’s in some sort of defense related incident.
      By the way… someone talking about kicking you in the crotch is immature but hardly a call for armed violence and oh yeah… it’s a message board, so unless the person lives down the street from you, I’d say your scrotum is safe from the steel toe boot.

      Deuteronomy, I emplore you to understand the minset of the progressive. They promote hate speach – conservatives are biggots, racists and teabaggers. They promote class warfare by vilifying the wealthy, as stealing your money, but they had a good idea and ran with it, made a lot of money and they sign our very paychecks. They promote tyrannical control of our everyday lives – ObamaCare is but one example of that.

      I abhor violence, do not condone it, nor do I promote it, however, if voilence comes to me or mine, I will ONLY defend them and my honor and my freedom. And many people on this site say that, some go a bit further, but they really don’t mean to start anything. I will apologize now for my stern words, and for the person who threatened you, but we are now fed up, we have been villified and attacked for so long, we have a pent up anger inside, but only that, no one here promotes violence, period. Progressivism is about control, see Hitler, Lenin and Mao, these people killed more people for the cause of ‘social justice’, than all wars put together from the beginning of time. I believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, he preached individual salvation, not collective salvation, He preached everyone stand up for themselves, stand on their own two feed and believe, to love others and you would like to be loved, and to be saved in His name. He did say render unto Caesar…but he also said bow down to no King, because you have a God, the King of Kings, and he kicked the money changers out of the Temple.

      May I emplore you to search deep into your heart, to see we are being spent into oblivion through entitlements, we are being taxed into poverty, and our country is now bankrupt! Just go to ‘usdebtclock.org’ to see for yourself. Progressives come in all stripes Dem and Rep, so this not about left or right any more, it is about Freedom, Liberty and the American way. Please revisit Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, the Federalist Papers for more information, and most of all Our beloved Constitution! We lose more freedoms every day, and one day we will have NONE! There is MUCH more I could write here, but have not the time.

      However, I will tell you this one last thing; I lived in Jamaica and had to flee the country in 1970′s, bullets were flying and people dying on the streets, all because of Mike Manley and Socialized Democracy. The exact same things that happened there, have happened here, and are happening here as I write!       One last thing about progressivsim, that hopefully will sway you…these people care more about birds, turtles and bees, than they care about the sanctity of a Human Life (read Abortion), that is genocide, THAT is where progressive true values are, and I for one, abhor that more than I abhor violence.       You need to seeit. It is what is prevalent in America today. You need to see this stuff happen as it will make you angry and drive you to get involved. Its sort of like the anger we have when we see the plans flying into the WTC. You get angry and fired up! Getting angry and fired up will cause you to something other than look away when at this time in our nations history we need to get fired up and take action…as Glenn says non violent action.I want to make that point perfectly clear.       This is truly a sad, sad day for America, for it begins! This man, lost everything, and he lost it, how many more people are going to lose, or have already lost everything, and lose it? How much more progressivism can we take? I do not know, I have no answer for that…but one day, we’re all going to wake up and be at war with each other, because we are a radicalized, fractured, drug addicted, liberal infested society! Or they will install martial law now, and then just take them away, and if we let that happen, we are LOST, DONE, KAPUT! God help us, we are going to have a huge struggle to get through this, and it is something I’ve warned against from day ONE, Nov 2008, don’t fire the first shot! How the hell do we fight against Abrams A1′s, Bradley FV, Predators and Stealth air power; against our finest men and women?       @ SGT. CRUST. i am a Marine, and I am here to tell you, and everyone reading this, that our military men and women are NOT gonna bow to the obama machine. The military is NOT run by the pentagon, but rather by her NCOs. The pentagon may issue the orders, but close knit units banded together in common cause, fighting and dying for the brother beside them is the true strength of our fighting force. And from a ‘bottom up” perspective, our boys ain’t gonna take that ,,,,dammit, cencorship, “stuff’. they will be ordered to fire on their friends, neighbors, countrymen, and they will then be ordered to stand down from their non-commissioned officers….their platoon and squad leaders, and they will then be ordered to fight for their Oath, to defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies foreign and domestic, and at that point this socialist, America-destroying regime is gonna poop themselves and give up within say, 100 hours.       I once watched a long ago documentary called “Hitler’s Youth” and the similarities between how Goebbles persuaded and then controlled the German youth and how the American youth was sucked into the anti-war movement during the ‘60’s is eerie. Even though the documentary was solely about the Hitler Youth so many catch phrases from the ‘60’s was originated on German youth during the ‘30’s like “generation-gap” and “now-generation”– The Nazi’s new they had to drive a wedge not only between the parents and their kids but also between the youth and the church….. Sounds like the tactics and goals of the new DNC….

      Finally someone who sees what I have been saying since seeing this obama on the rise… I have been watching the people and places he has been.. I have also watch many of the history channel (which they are not 100% accurate but the closest we have) programs about Hitler and the rise of communism.. I told people long ago (about 2 years anyway) that he was groomed very much like hitler by some world figure to be a sleeper agent.. I was dismissed as a “conspiracy nut”…Well i wonder who is feeling foolish now (bet it is my cousin who voted for this imposter)…Hitler the great oratitor and so is obama, social justice like germany of Nazi… obummer has tried everything to get a riot startd so he could lock down the country and I am so proud of the Tea Party/non liberals for not taking the bait and starting fights at the events.       How about the part where there was a boy camp and a girl camp, and 90% of girls were pregnant. One girl wrote her mom telling her that she was one of the girls. The mom went to the camp to see what was going on there, and the 14 year old daughter threatened her own mother, if she didn’t leave her alone, and leave the camp, she would report her to the Gestapo. Anyone in touch with the crap they are teaching the kids in school these days?

They were dispatched to a man with a gun call…it was almost 5pm which means it was getting dark…the guy took a shooting stance and pointed what appeared to be a weapon…this was a good shoot no matter how you look at it. Tragic? Hell yes but not the cops fault

I wonder if this was a school “gun free zone” where the School Board meets … or as I like to call them “sitting duck zone” Our school board (when I was a kid in Michigan) used to meet in the school library but seems in Florida they all have “fancy” auditorium type spaces .. might not have actually been part of the “school”.

      Don’t miss the big picture. I remember taking my first .22 rifle to school for show and tell, and than after school squirrel hunting with my fifth grade teacher. By the way, SHE was a much better shot than I. The same liberals that put liberal policy in place are the same ones getting shot at by other liberals. It’s called “biting your nose off to spite your face” It’s just a good thing that these types of violence are carried out by liberals, that have always opposed guns until they want to use one. If this was carried out by a conservative, nobody would have walked out of that room. Another thing, conservative people don’t shoot themselves, they believe in going out with their boots on. I guess it’s just a good thing that conservative people tend to carry a bible along with their guns, and see no honor in shooting innocent people.

      It just goes to show you what people are capable of when face with excessive mental pressures & struggles in their life. The reason people commit suicide is that “they” believe that things will not get better in their lives. Unfortunately, I believe that there will be more and more of this type of thing as America spins out of control. It is a horrible thing to say, but I believe that our country is already insolvent, so it’s a matter of time until we become a vassal state to China. You may laugh, but time will tell.

      Wow to bad that there was not someone there carrying a weapon who was trained in the use of that weapon. Why do many judges arm themselves these days in their courtrooms? This is a perfect example of why! The gunman had his back to the school board so many times giving the board members an opportunity to bring him down. I’m not cold blooded but I am not going to sit idly by while some lunatic walks into a room and shoots the place up! There was NO reason for any of the school board members to have been shot and killed, thank God they were not, but given the laws we have in many states prohibiting the right to carry we have given up our rights to protect our families as well as ourselves. As long as there are people like this man who was ready and willing to die as he said he was there will be innocent victims that will die with them. As Americans we have the right and obligation to protect ourselves from people like this. This is a perfect display of the fact that the police cannot be there to protect you when you need it! How long did it take them to arrive on scene? In the meantime if the gunman had truly intended to kill his victims he could have done so. Personally I believe he did not have the will to kill them but wanted to make a statement, wanted the police to kill him, knew it would be publicly broadcast and had already resolved himself to the fact that he was going to die. Bottom line America its time to protect yourself or become helpless victims of people like this who are willing to give their lives for their cause. We could be looking at 7 dead individuals just as easy as we are looking at one. God blessed those on the school board that day. They are alive to live another day. I wonder how many of them now wished that they had been armed?

      Yes, three words- “Gun Free Zone” notice how long it took for the Police to get there? That‘s not to say the Police did anything wrong because they didn’t. What it means is the Police are reactionary and can’t be everywhere at once. In an active shooter situation like this seconds are like minutes and minutes like hours. We have a 2nd Amendment for just this reason and because WE are the first responders. If that security guard had no been there and taken the threat out, every one of those men would probably be dead.

      Your diligence is appreciated. I do think that many are in jest. Thankfully, in jest or not, words don’t hurt much. And I don’t think Mr. Beck would be very happy with anyone that commits senseless violence. He often reminds us what is at stake should we let our frustration get the better of us and we act out violently like the moron who tried to drive his one-man army to the Tides foundation. All this would accomplish is … something – correct me if I am wrong – you are looking for:

      Dirt on the Tea Party. What everyone has been looknig for when they speak out against us, against Beck and others like Rush who shed the light on what is going on in Washington.

      The other thing it would do is deliver – on a silver platter – a reason for the already massive government to grab more power, maybe disarm us. And if you listen to the resonating message among all small pockets of the tea party is smaller government, more liberty. And of course, leave our guns alone (says this conservative who has never even owned/held/fired one lol).

      I liken these posts to the old comparison Mr. Franklin made between the American people and the rattlesnake. You are simply hearing the rattle. Thankfully, words do about as much harm as we allow them.

      Rest easy on our tract record of peace and civility. (i.e. 8/28 Rally 2010)

      My thoughts on this deal. #1, Ok, so this guy’s wife was fired and they “ran out of benifits’ before the year is up. (I assume this because he says his wife was fired “back in January”). I call “BS” on this. Her bennies will NEVER go away under the new system of “unemployment bennies til yer heart stops”. #2: I think he just wanted to die, period, and didn’t want to aire his differences, even WITH a gun and prison time associated with it. Proof is that he was nearly point blank and missed the superintendant.
      #3. The Superintendant. That man should be re-elected for life, asking the gunman to let everyone else go as he is solely responsible for all decisions made in his district. That rememinded me of all the Marines I ever served with, that selfless act of compassion for those under him and the willingness to “jump on that grenade” that was a pissed off gunman. God Love You, Sir. You are a giant among men. To face down an evil sum-bitch like that and be willing to stand alone against him. CMH worthy, Sir.
      #4. The guard. Lemme tell you something you effing coward. You have a man toting a gun in the vicinity of your post and threatening people, you shoot him until he stops twitching. Every time I read a post like the one’s in your list, I am always struck by how juvenile they are, which makes me suspicious that 9 out of 10 of such posts come from Liberal/Progressive posers who are desperate to dis-credit Glenn and Conservatives and Tea Party folks, so they write posts that are contrived from a prejudiced imagination about what a bunch of anarchists “Hick from the Sticks Bubbas they imagine us to be.

      It is actually comical to see how badly their efforts come off!
