‘Shoot the Mother F**ker’: Gun Store Owner Opens Fire on 3 Burglars After They Drove Van Through Wall

The owner of the Guns and Ammo Gunsmith store in North Augusta, S.C. thought he was going to die tragically. Three men had driven a van into his store, executing what they hoped would be a quick “smash-and-grab” robbery.

Instead, they met owner Stephen Bayezes, who opened fire on the three intruders after the commotion set off an alarm, hitting each one at least once. He says he is not proud of what he was forced to do, but added sometimes “you’ve got to.” The incident occurred on Aug. 9, but the owner says a set of tire marks on the store’s floor and an unfinished wall are daily reminders of the night that he almost lost his life.

“It’s a haunting thought. It literally is a haunting thought when you see the tire tracks, you hear the tires,” Bayezes told WRDW-TV. “Everybody assures you that you just did what you had to do to protect your family. They say it’ll heal over time, but when does time go away? It’s something that nobody ever wants to do.”

But he says he had no choice after he heard one of the robbers shout, “Shoot the mother f**ker!,” followed by the sound of a gun cocking. “I mean, they would’ve shot me. In my mind, with no reservation. If that firearm had been loaded, I might’ve been a statistic.”

With his fight-or-flight reflexes in full gear, Bayezes started shooting, striking all three men, killing one while the surviving two escaped. WRDW does not reveal the exact type of firearm the store owner used.

So, what happened to the two suspects? WRDW explains:

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office says Eddie Stewart and Franklin Robinson will be charged with burglary 1st, grand larceny and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Both suspects are still in the hospital and will be taken into custody once they are released.

The Aiken County coroner says the third suspect, 20-year-old K’Raven Goodwin of Eastover, S.C., died from multiple gunshot wounds on Thursday morning.

The whole altercation took but one minute, he said. The burglars escaped with roughly 50 guns that night, however all of them have been returned safely.

“Is this something you ever wanna do in your life?” he asked. “No. Something you have to do? If you’re forced to it, you’ve got to.”

And even though he bested the would-be robbers, Bayezes still has nightmares about the horrifying incident.

“Two nights ago I thought I was getting shot by one of these perpetrators,” he explained. “Woke up in a cold sweat. I mean I seen the bullet come out of the gun and shoot me. It’s a nightmare.”

To make sure he is always prepared for future burglary attempts, Bayezes said he has improved his security system — and we already know he has plenty of guns at Guns and Ammo Gunsmith.

“We’re trying to protect everything again to try and stop this,” he said. “We’ve enhanced security more, added more cameras, everything else you can do to the place. I mean, it’s a fortress. How much more do you have to do to it to protect your livelihood?”

    If you really want to reduce crime, be prepared to shoot criminals. If they know this, they will go somewhere else. You know, someplace like Commiefornia.

      That makes sense until you realize this story is about three morons who broke into a GUN STORE!! How stupid can you get? I can hear it now “I’ve got an idea, lets break into the gun shop across town. They’ll never have a gun loaded to shoot us there.” This deserves a Darwin award.

      How do you get shot and still manage to steal 50 guns in 1 minute? Must a been alot of lead flying while one or two did the collecting and the other one did the firing back if they shot anything at all, seems there was not much time but still got 50 guns…holy cow! If they’d been successful that would be like a fast and real furious gun run for sure. I’m glad all took rounds and even one died for his ill concieved plans to rob from another. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Someone righteous must wield one for the sake of innocent business owners, property and lives.

      But those rocket scientists would have tried the same thing at an IPSC (International Practical Shooting Congress) match with even more disastrous results.

      When I was a civilian cop I learned that many patrols hovered around the few gun shops that remained in our city. As well I found myself and many off duty cops in those stores during our off hours. Very stupid place to try anything illegal.

      Claiming or even admitting to PTSD is something you NEVER do. Once you are diagnosed with that, you can never own a firearm. The gov’t is doing that to as many veterans as they can in their attempt to disarm us. It would be especially disasterous for a gun shop owner.

Then get you to agree that you feel like you’ve been affected….Bingo…You can never have a carry permit…THIS IS DEMO-CRAP CRAP.       PTSD shouldn’t be an excuse to take away someones 2nd admendment right/responsibility.There is a trick to dealing with it that doesn’t require ”treatment and counseling”".Simply remember that ptsd is a normal reaction to a perfectly abnormal situation.Actually having a bad counselor is far worse than no treatment.They aggravate instigate and otherwise f-up an already troubling situation.Many counselors have serious mental problems all their own.Unlike ptsd sufferers theirs truly is from mental illness’s.This is just the civilian sector.Don’t get me started on the VA.The eos has roosted their for many decades.Think its an accident that many are foriegn[mid eastern].Its not.They and their government hood accomplices wanted it that way.Hassan is the tip of the iceberg.It goes all the way back to right after ww2 and the nazis.There were certain trades in order to get the avionics engineers and designers.That trade involved those who we should have never let into this country.Quite a few from the medical profession who came almost straight line from the camps.

      Yep. Felony murder for both. If you participate in a felony in any supportive role, and somebody, even a perpetrator, is killed during the commission thereof, the person(s) can be charged with felony murder. It is probably the most serious crime you can be charged with. I know I am talking to the choir guys. I know you all know this. I am just yapping.

    Lucky for him, he doesn’t have a gun store in CA. He would be limited to a 10 round clip with a bullet button (for that AR type weapon) so you can’t change the clips quickly. That law allows criminals to get the upper hand on you. It’s great. Love California and the criminal politicians that pass laws to protect their buddies. People like Feinstein and Boxer that have their own CCW, but don’t want anyone else to have one. You see, they are important, and the rest of us are just useless cattle. Typical progressive state of mind.

      It was done semi-successfully down here on the border w/Old Mexico. Some thugs smashed up my favorite gun store and stole weapons. Many of the weapons were recovered and a couple of suspects were arrested. The store had closed for the night when it was hit.

      Not sure why you said that about Colorado. I am from South Carolina and live in Colorado, an open carry state and CCW. If they tried that here, the results would probably be the same, especially the gun shop where I go. They are all carrying!

    What the one burgler said justifies his total reaction. I am sorry for the family of the dead kid (bet they sue), if fact, the whole thing is sorry. Three people thought they had the right to kill someone and take their stuff. Hope he get’s some help with the nightmares and talks it out.

      Still, I call him a hero – able to defend himself from 3 murders. Speaking of murder, the other 2 should be charged with the death of the 3rd. In some states, if you commit a crime where a death occurs because of the crime, you can be charged with murder, even if the death was an accomplice that died from the hands of a defender.

    Oh NO! The store owner used one of those evil “assault (style) rifles to defend himself. I think the MIke Bloomberg and Rahm Emmanuel need to go ‘splain to him that that’s just not right. Besides he was supposed to just stand there and let the three crooks murder him and steal his goods.

    Good on him, but too bad that he didn’t spare the state the expense of trying the other two.

      He didn’t have to use his evil assault rifle at all. He just needed to pick up the phone and the police would have been there just in time to draw chalk around his body. Or best case, write a police report for the complete loss of his inventory.
