Shooting Victim Apologizes for Threatening Tea Party Leader

Eric Fuller, the 63-year-old Tucson shooting victim who recently threatened a Tea Party leader with “you’re dead” at an event, has issued an apology regarding his inflammatory statement.

“I would like to tender my sincerest apologies to [Tea Party leader] Mr. (Trent) Humphries for my misplaced outrage on Saturday at the St. Odelia’s town meeting,” Fuller said in a statement to CNN. “It was not in the spirit of our allegiance and warm feelings to each other as citizens of our great country.”

Fuller issued the statement through a companion, Dorothy DeRuyter. He “is apologetic and very sad” about his outburst, DeRuyter told CNN. “He wishes he could go back and do things differently,” she said.

DeRuyter said Fuller gave her liberty to speak on his behalf.

Fuller, who was shot in the knee, was involuntarily committed to a mental hospital after the outburst.

Hmmmm, I have to ask this question of everyone that is posting. Is it possible that he truely is sorry for what he said? Is it not possible that through this he realized the error of his actions? Was he wrong? Absolutely he was but why do we all assume that everyone that has had an experience like that is just CYA? Can he not truely see his mistake and genuinely feel remorse for his actions?

Now that I have said that, it does not mean that he shouldn’t be treated and face any charges in court. I have nothing against him being responsible for his actions, I am just not sure it is right to condemn him for his appology.

He’s made an incredibly stupid remark. When he said ‘your dead’, he could have meant ‘your dead politically’. Issue him a ticket, but I think putting him in a mental hospital is too much, unless he really did test insane or a danger.

Apology accepted. This apology isn’t filled with empty words meant to deflect responsibility for his actions. If this sincere apology isn’t acceptable, then what could someone say that is? Some consideration should also be given to the emotional strain Eric was under (as a shooting victim) when he made the inflammatory statement. Forgive, move on, and quit whipping the flames of dissent. It’s what Christ would do.

Does a person who is mentally ill apologize for threatening someone? Even if they have started him on a psych medication it takes 2-3 weeks to kick in. People who observed Jared Loughner in the courtroom, said he showed no signs of remorse, just had a sinister grin on his face. Hopefully they keep Mr. Fuller under observation for a month or so. He may just be trying to get back on the street. It’s amazing the people shouting the loudest that the Tea Party is violent, are exposing themselves to be the violent ones. It’s hard to believe the vitriol that is spewed by liberals, that is never covered by the MSM. They have a laser focus on those evil conservatives!! Mind boggling. I would like to have the person who was threatened accept this apology and believe that this is the end of the aggression. However, I live in the real world.

Mr. Fuller went off, was heard by those in his immediate area, and it is immortalized on the news. Essentially, he got caught and is probably sorry about that. It is unlikely that his feelings are different.

He also was escorted to a mental facility. This was involuntary.

The young man who went off on the peole at Safeway could be sitting in jail right now saying he’s sorry. Does that mean that he should be totally forgiven and let him out into society.

Mr. Fuller didn’t act on his comments and maybe he never will and Mr. Loughner didn’t act on his ideas either – until recently. Perhaps his family and the police also once thought he didn’t act on his comments and probably never would.

How do you decide the difference?

To Elrik68, Chuck and SND97 , there is only one person his apology matters to and that is the person he threatened. Forgive and forget does not mean unpunished. Everyone does say dumb things but this man is an adult and quite frankly the fact he felt confident to threaten a tea party person in public is rather telling. After all the Media vilifies them regularly. Also being shot does not give anyone the right to threaten another, especially someone not connected in anyway to the shooting – the shooter was not a tea party member which was well known at the time of this incident. I would also submit the shooter probably had more in common with Eric Fuller than the tea party. He read leftist writings, watched leftist movies and documentaries as well as listened to leftist music. I will not speculate as to the pot smoking aspect – one can draw their own conclusions.

Yes, we are at war. It is a war of which political and philosophically driven actions are going to win. The reason we‘re where we are is because leftists have been at war with conservatives for at least two decades and the people we send to Washington posing as conservatives don’t seem to realize it. So every time Repubs regain control, they feel the compulsion to ‘reach across the aisle’ and ‘pass bipartisan legislation’, giving the left their way until the they can take it back again and reward Republicans for their bipartisan good will with a swift kick in the teeth and a knife in the back. To hell with that.

Yes, how droll…The libs are STILL barking about how dangerous the right is and how Palin and Beck drove Loughner to his shooting rampage…They call names, disparage, and lie when the right has not said or done a SINGLE thing. Yet when a lunatic on the left does make an ACTUAL death threat, I might add just one of MANY such threats made by MANY such left leaning lunatics, and then is forced into an apology we are supposed to hold out our arms and shower them with kisses because even though they have been very very naughty they have corrected their behavior…

Everyone was so very, very sure that Sarah, Glenn, Rush, and a host of other conservative talk radio hosts were to blame that Mr. Fuller decided to make a statement, which is his right. No one forced him to stand up at that meeting and say what he said. And….words have meaning. Actions have consequences.

You’re wrong. This is a deranged man. Anyone with an IQ greater than that of a bowl of pudding and even a modicum of common sense isn’t capable of being convinced that the tea party is out to kill them at the drop of a hat.

The real problem isn‘t saying he’s deranged or not. The real problem is that we treat deranged people in this country as if they’re rational. We treat them as if their nonsensical delusions have merit until absolutely disproven. And even then other deranged delusional people that came to follow them will refuse to believe the truth. If we treated buffooons and mentally compromised people like what they are instead of pretending they are intellectual equals engaging in good faith debate then we wouldn’t have half the problems we have right now.

Sounded like a terrorist threat to me, don’t you get a stay in jail for that now adays. Don’t think he has any mental problems except for his stinkin thinkin. Curious how the left gets a stay in a hospital and everybody else gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Just sayin.

Sorry or not, the target of his threat should still get a restraining order that keeps that dirtbag at least 300 feet away.

He wishes he had done things differently?? What in the hell does that mean? Does he wish maybe he had done more? I mean isnt that what Bill Ayers said about the bombing from teh Weather Underground? Keep in mind guys “Differently” can be interpreted well…. “Differently” the fact that he didnt give the apology himself to me screams VOLUMES… and he is a prior service veteran? Be a man… come out and say what you mean and mean what you say… dont hide behind some woman to come out and speak for you…

I guess its par for the course with him though… as gun shot rang out… civilians rushed the shooter while Mr Prior Service left the scene and drove himself to the hospital… If he was good enough to drive he should have been good enough to help out… But I guess thats what Liberal Progressives do.. they think about themselves only… and then complain when others arent thinking about “Them” too….

Neversaynever, don’t think I could have said it better!

Me thinks his lawyer got a hold of him and let him know just how much trouble he was in AND how much he was hurting “their” side of the debate and that a little contrition would go a long way to making this go away. Though contrition thru a spokesperson is cowardly in my book any day of the week with any body, no matter what the circumstances.

Listen, this one time I’m inclined to mark up to the events that lead up to this, if this cat is truely sadden by his words, it’s all good, let’s move on! God bless all, and pray for our sinners, till the light of his love guides our way!

I wouldn’t buy that apology for one second, delivered second hand, while on meds and getting therapy.

I agree with you on all points “NEVERSAYNEVER” …but it has yet to be seen if there will be a watchful eye kept on Mr.Fuller when released or will he become another OMG headline.
(many not-nutty people say & do things things rather questionable but relatively harmless , BUT often life changing events ~like getting shot by a lone gunman on a rampage!~ plant a seed that can over time produce fruite ,some good & others bad ,,,it seems there was a bit of MiricalGrow on the rounds that hit Mr.Fuller and the buds from this seed imply its gonna be a bad harvest from this plant.)

Oh, give it a rest people. Had I been shot I’d be angry too. Although the object of Eric Fuller’s anger was misplaced. But, this is what happens when the left resorts to demagoguery and inflammatory rhetoric.

I know it is difficult to accept this apollogy for many just reading the post’s here. I ask you to think about this…..how many apollogies do you hear? I hear extremely few yet I myself know the foolishness of running my mouth before the brain is engaged. WHAT IF….he was sincere? How would you distingquish the difference? I’d say err on the faith side to say “Thank you, I appreciate that as this country is very important to me, my children and the future as well. God bless”

Soooo…if someone on the “Right” says something like this, they are a hate monger/racist evil person…if someone one the left says it…its justified and all they have to do is appologize and all is well?

I am soooo sick of “Tolerance” and “Acceptance” and “Compassion”…can we just go ahead and get the inevitable civil war started already so that we can “Purge” the United States of America of the liberal/socialist/marxist/progressive/democrat cancer that is destroying this country please?

Funny how the Leftys are quiet about this guy
They were quick to “judge” the RightWing/Tea Party/Palin/Limbaugh etc….

After a 72 hour psych evaluation…..toss this guy in a 28 day conservative think tank
Maybe He might learn to love this country and not flipping out over his liberal/progressive BS
