Should Democrats ‘Tone It Down’ on Abortion? Jimmy Carter Thinks So

In a rare bipartisan interview, Jimmy Carter sat down with radio talk show host Laura Ingraham to talk about his new book, “NIV Lessons From Life Bible: Personal Reflections With Jimmy Carter.” In the interview, reposted by the Daily Caller, Carter touches on multiple topics, including his view that the Tea Party doesn’t care about working people, but “just wants to feather their own nest.”
However, when the conversation turns to the the topic of abortion, Carter’s remarks may surprise those who are accustomed to seeing the 39th President as the embodiment of modern American liberalism. Carter strikes what is, for the Democratic Party, a decidedly conservative stance on the topic.
“I never have believed that Jesus Christ would approve of abortions and that was one of the problems I had when I was president having to uphold Roe v. Wade and I did everything I could to minimize the need for abortions,” Carter says. “I’ve signed a public letter calling for the Democratic Party at the next convention to espouse my position on abortion which is to minimize the need, requirement for abortion and limit it only to women whose life are in danger or who are pregnant as a result of rape or incest.”
Given that Carter claims to not be in favor of criminalizing abortion in the same interview, how he proposes to limit the procedure remains something of a mystery. Nevertheless, given that Carter opposed public funding for abortion as governor of agency, this is hardly the first time he has taken a conservative position on the issue relative to the rest of his party.
In fact, it’s worth remembering that Carter was the first Presidential candidate to actively court evangelical voters and win their votes in large numbers. In a true stroke of irony, those same voters went for his opponent, Ronald Reagan, in the next election. Still, some of the old born again Carter may remain alive, if this interview is any guide.

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 12:00amLOL @ the publisher that thinks a Jimmy Carter Bible has a market. Atheist and secularist liberals are more likely to tear him a new one for mentioning Jesus than they are to buy his book, and anyone to the right of the radical left don’t have an ounce of respect for this socialist. The only people that might buy it also respect Foster Brooks for his philosophical ponderings.

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 12:28amSo according to Jimmy Carter Satan gets to destroy 2 lives. In the case of Rape or Incest Satan gets 2 for the price of one. How in the world do we justify murdering a baby because a woman was raped or a child was the victim of incest? Somehow murdering the baby allows us to feel better about the whole thing? Imagine asking Jesus if is okay to murder someone who has committed rape or incest? What if that person would have repented and asked for forgiveness later on but you killed that person? Now imagine asking Jesus if it is okay to murder a baby in the case of rape or incest? Do you honestly believe that Jesus would say “Well in the case of incest or rape, yes it is okay to murder the baby” If it isn’t okay to kill the rapist or the molester why is it okay to kill the baby? Abortion is murder regardless of what caused the pregnancy. Rape or incest doesn’t suddenly make murder okay, lets stop fooling ourselves. Rape or incest does not make murder okay.

Report Post »So what you are saying is that a woman who has been raped should be forced to have the baby? That you (I am concluding that you are male due to your profile picture) should have the right to (in a sense) hold a gun to her head and force her to go through a pregnancy that could cause her more pain? Now, I am not saying that every rape should lead to abortion. I believe that each individual needs to seek advice, ponder and pray about what they should do and allow the Lord to guide them to what would be the best decision for their lives. But do not sit there being a man (yes, assuming but probably correct) and try to tell me that you know what is best for the woman. I know that I will never have to face the pain and emotional duress that comes with rape and I would never, as should you, presume to tell a woman who has gone through such an ordeal what they have to do. Going with what you are saying, then abortion in the case of the mothers life in danger should not happen either. The child could live throught the birth but the mother will probably die. So either way, 1 life is traded for another. Shouldn’t it be the younger one that is saved? Yet, I think most people would consider that ridiculous. God knows what is best for our lives and do not try to dictate Gods will by saying that all women who have abortions after rape are defying His will. You cannot say that He(knowing beginning from end) would not hold someone guiltless for it.

Posted on March 30, 2012 at 12:15pmVery simple – We all have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. My pursuit of happiness cannot deprive another of his life or his liberty. Since abortion clearly deprives someone of their life (and as the libs are wont to claim – potential life – so pregnancy carried to term is a life then the potential person has still been deprived of life – but that is another debate altogether) it is wrong.
If continuing a pregnancy will take my life, then an abortion is an acceptable option should I choose, because I have the right to protect my life. To defend my life it is not wrong.

you cannot imagine my anguish.
this woman left town and then sent me a letter saying she was – again-pregnant with mine.
never heard from her again.
fast forward 24 yrs a young woman contacts me from NYC.
she has adoption papers with me listed as the father.

Will he tell God he wants to live where the Democrats live? Would Jimmy Carter have voted for Lucifer if he had run on the Democratic ticket? Likely so, because he sure seems to be sucking up to his evil henchmen that are in the White House trying to take God away so they can operate without interference. As someone fameous once said: “It an’t gonna happen.” Americans have been joined under the Laws of this land written in conjunction with the laws of God and we cannot be separated from them, as it would not even be America. Posted on March 29, 2012 at 10:41pmAbortion is murder. People use it as a form of birth control. There are instances when a mother is sick and has to choose hers over the life of the child. I have children and mother who lived because the mother chose to try and save the child. If a woman is raped then she can take means that day to prevent a birth in case something is there to cause a birth. Abortion is cowardly and the result of lazy people who will not use condoms after breaking Gods law that clearly states fornication outside of marriage is sin. People had rather kill babies than to keep God’s laws. They will burn in hell. If you cannot keep your pants zipped or your legs together, then you will likely cause a birth that if not wanted, that child will be murdered. If you drink or take drugs then you are likely to get someone pregnant or get pregnant yourself because you don’t give a flying flip at the time. God says a drunkard will not enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Those who fornicate outside of marriage are having children for their elderly parents to raise or for them to be thrown away and often live in homes where they are not wanted. You will pay for your sins, not the least of which is fornication that is causing these deaths by murder. You who break these laws that have serious consequences should realize that the wages of sin is death and many times it is the unborn who are the ones being murdered and even children mistreated after they are born who are often times killed.
