GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A 10-foot-long alligator has taken a bite out of a Florida deputy sheriff’s cruiser.
Authorities say Alachua County Deputy Victor Borrero spotted the gator Saturday evening near the Gainesville Golf and Country Club. It attacked the patrol car while the deputy was waiting for an alligator trapper to show up.
Sheriff‘s spokesman Todd Kelly says the car’s front bumper was heavily damaged.
A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokeswoman said the alligator was put down under the state’s nuisance gator policy. Under that policy, the trapper is allowed to keep meat and hide from the gator.

Report Post »No doubt, that this scenario will result in the passage, of some outlandish piece of legislation, that they’ll call “law.”

Posted on May 3, 2011 at 6:43pmI saw a pit bull do the same thing and it got the same thing the gator got, dead. Pit bulls are the same as gators, mindless killers, kind of like most of the people that own them. You know who you are!

Posted on May 3, 2011 at 6:19pmNow ya’ know why they started putting those cheap, plastic bumpers on cars… to protect alligators and angry ex-wives. The gator would have though twice about munching on one of the chrome steel bumpers of days-gone-by. I’ll tell you the ex-wife vs. chrome bumper story another day.

Posted on May 3, 2011 at 6:15pmJust wondering … since the story mentions that the bumper was heavily damaged, with just one ittty bitty gator bite .. was it a Government Motors bumper? My F-150 could stand up to that tiny bite !!!

Posted on May 3, 2011 at 6:21pmNo, that’s a Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor. Same ol’ plastic (cheapo) bumpers that are on just about everything nowadays. Junk, and expensive to replace.

Why would he want to hide from the gator? Is the gator looking for him?

Posted on May 4, 2011 at 7:14pmI knew I wasn’t the only one who was questioning that comment. Does this mean it is illegal to hide from an alligator that isn’t a nuisance? That would be odd.

Posted on May 3, 2011 at 6:06pmThis is interesting, but it’s not as good as the story of an alligator that emerged from a canal while some utility workers were repairing a telephone line. The sheriff was summoned to the scene and before he got out of his cruiser, got on the loudspeaker and told the alligator, “This is the Broward County Sheriff’s Department. Get back in the canal!” The newspaper that printed the article was careful to mention that the alligator did not respond to the officer’s orders. Absolutely priceless.
