‘Shut Up and Be a Good Little Socialist’: Seattle Policeman Blasts City‘s New ’Social Justice Initiative’

Seattle Police Officer Steve Pomper sparked outrage after authoring an opinion piece in his local police union’s newspaper entitled, “Shut up and be a Good Little Socialist.”  In it, Pomper rails against the city’s race and “social justice” initiative which requires public safety officials to undergo extensive training on racial profiling and cultural sensitivity, or what he calls “de-policing classes.”

“The city, using its Race and Social Justice Initiative, continues its assault on traditional and constitutional American values such as self-reliance, equal justice, and individual liberty,” Pomper’s op-ed begins. “But more to our concern, the city is inflicting its socialist policies directly on the Seattle Police Department.”

In addition, the police officer‘s opinion piece blasts Seattle’s city attorney for cutting back on prosecutions for particular crimes partly because the city claimed African Americans were disproportionately charged.

“When somebody comes in with a policy like that,” Pomper says, “it doesn’t allow us to treat people with equal justice.”  It’s socialism, he says.

City Attorney Pete Holmes defends the city’s progressive policies.  For example, driving with a suspended license is almost always charged when a person’s license has been suspended for failure to pay a fine, Fox News reports.  But Holmes says 44 percent of those prosecuted for the crime were African American.  According to Holmes, the disproportionate number of blacks being charged is a direct result of economic inequalities.

Racial minorities are more likely to be poor than whites and unable to pay their fines, Holmes says, adding that it’s a waste of city resources to prosecute those cases.  “If we start to learn and understand that one of those institutional causes of racism is actually in the criminal justice system,” Holmes says, “it’s our obligation as prosecutors to address it.”

Holmes and other city officials are looking for other ways to promote “social justice,” including a possible reduction in the minimum sentence for misdemeanor crimes so legal immigrants convicted of crimes are not deported.  Though the police seems to skirt federal immigration laws, Holmes says it’s more important for the city to keep immigrant families together.

Though Pomper has voiced his discontent, his superior officers have condemned his op-ed as a “stupid thing to do.”

“We firmly and wholly support those programs,” Police Chief John Diaz says.  “This is something that critical to how we run our department and this city.”

    Your obligation is to uphold the law. If I break the law I am subject to that discipline. The judge can take midigating factors into consideration, but the prosecutor has a duty to prosecute according to established law. Period.

    Oh and I forgot to add, I’m currently living in Washington…..the nightly local news is FULL of endless whining and handwringing about police brutality and the wimpy idiocy parading as “Social Justice” here is becoming revolting. If I was a cop here, I’d just let all the violence erupting in all the same neighborhoods night after night just go on w/o my help and let them all shoot each other.
    Why get involved.

    So you are saying that I (the employer) who created the job for the “worker” to begin with, have not created the wealth???? you said: “despite the fact that they did not create the wealth” says to me that you never have owned a business and have never created a job for anyone. Guess you are just a “worker”, or perhaps not, and may never create any wealth in your life. By your own choice you have made yourself dependent upon someone else for your livelihood. Perhaps you should rethink your role in the business world and try to create something.

Should the creator of the jobs be required to work alongside the workers they hire to earn the same wage?     I’m a self employed freelance artist w/o union perks or bennies, pension or vacation time ad nauseam….I have NEVER gotten a job/project from a WORKER/maker…..only Capitalists and the more successful and wealthy, the better the project and budget and the less time taken to pay me….and the better I like it.
    On the other hand I have been asked for freebies and experienced non payment from frothing Socialists/Social Justice spewers who are continually asking for free art and handouts, freebies and charity.

    I wonder if these people take an oath of office in which they swear to support and defend the laws of the state? If they choose to ignore to prosecute people because of their skin color, that’s racism. I wonder if anyone might consider it to be an impeachable offense to only choose to follow the laws that you agree with, and ignore some, solely due to race. If that is the case for those sworn to uphold the law as a public servant I think it’s well past time for them to find gainful employment rather than continue to waste the taxpayers money not doing what they were hired to do. Justice is supposed to be equally applied to everyone, regardless of political correctness.

      They probably won‘t arrest them for the stolen car they’re driving with that suspended license.. Oregon has a county that quit booking car thieves because they were overwhelmed in the jail.. Two kids got stopped in 7 different cars in 5 days, and still got a summons and released on the spot.. Works great that system.. Don’t leave anything of value in your car in Portland..

      Anyway, if an officer finds a suspended driver, that driver should be waving goodbye to his car as it rolls away on a flatbed. More than one way to skin a cat. Let them tell me I can’t tow a vehicle when the driver is suspended…

      A. Not respond and record if a mexican / latino commits a crime
      B. Use the full force of the law to find whites commiting some darn thing, to be made an example of
      because everytime a latino / mexican will get arrested for a crime by SJPD, the arresting officer will be opening him/herself for charges of “ racial profiling ” by the City , specially if the officer is white.

      Anyone and everyone who has any desire to start a career as a Police Officer these days is a fool to do so. Law Enforcement officers as individuals are a very VERY -expendable resource- and they will come under attack by their own peers and supervisors based on simply nothing more than political correctness. Police Chiefs are appointed, Sheriff’s are elected. Either way, they are very political as is the entire infrastructure of all Law Enforcement agencies… especially on the Municipal and County levels. Nevermind the general public who hates and despises Police Officers on principal alone. You will never make a difference in the community as the community is who the MFWIC boss so fervently seeks to make happy with ‘customer satisfaction’ and politically correct directives that hobbles you and undermines the very job you are sworn to do.

      Municipal and County Law Enforcement agencies will eventually reap what they sow as the officers that have been on duty for awhile start retiring and the new hires to replace the retiree’s will be from the bottom of the barrel since no one in their right mind will want to be subjected to such heinous treatment from the powers that be and be subjected to such deplorable working conditions where being thrown under the bus is now the norm and not the exception.

      Nowadays, the best action is to take no action as a Police Officer unless you are dispatched to an incident. No one has your back anymore. Not the District Attorneys office, not your supervisors, not your MFWIC Chief/Sheriff, not even your beat partners who only see you as an obstacle on the promotions and assignments ladder. Many of them just see a big target on your back. You are on your own. Put on the blinders and just make it through those 20+ years so you can retire and get the heck out free and clear!

      This sounds like a joke, but it isn’t! What is going on this country? Do these idiots in Seattle realize the atmosphere they are creating their city? They are basically telling those who are below a certain income level that they can do anything they want and they won’t be prosecuted for it. Is that really the message they want to put out? And if you find yourself in the middle class (and apparently if you have a college education) you will be held to a higher standard with respect to the law. This is blatantly un-Constitutional! Why are the people of Seattle putting up with this garbage? Are they that nutty? I guess they will just have to wait for their city to become a cesspool before they get it.

      This is typical Liberal/Progressive think. Instead of raising the bar and inspiring people to better themselves, they enact policies that treat people like they’re idiots and victims and punish people who succeed. This is all so people don’t feel “bad” about themselves.

      We have this same idiocy in the multicultural country to your north. And I can tell you it’s so saddening because its breeding antagonism towards minorities. There is a different and harsher justice system if you’re white. We’re going backwards in racial tolerance. And I blame it on this stupid multicultural experiment.

      People come here to seek a new and better life and then set themselves up in little enclaves which mimic the failed states they came from. And then when things are going badly back home they take to the streets and demand our government find a way to fix the problem.

      We became one of the best countries on the planet by immigrants assimilating into our cultural. We benefited from the best they brought and discarded what didn’t work. Now its all going down the tube.

      What you need to do is get a ticket, do not pay it, let them fine you and then you can take them to court for discrimination, or just wait for it to happen to a lawyer. This country has gone nuts, what is so crazy is that socialism is suppose to give everyone the same things equally, I guess that does not apply if you are white or a conservative.

      Has anyone noticed the potential connections here…

      We have the police department of Seattle working on the Social Justice used by progressives to deal with matters of race, culture, social status, and the like, while in Wisconsin the police department had refused lawful orders to clear the capital building of the protesters?

      What we are seeing is the visible hand while the progressives and the unions other hand is being cocked back to strike down upon us.

      This is along the lines of Obama yesterday declaring changes the states could make in the health care law instigation and other such junk, while on the Drudge Report it turns out the Democrats are able to use it for a backdoor to the single payer, government controlled socialization of medical care and such.

      Nudge, nudge, push, shove, shoot! Thank goodness there is at least one public servant in Seattle who has read the hand writing on the wall. And what about the Anarchist that rioted and destroyed property, they are a minority, so I suppose they should get special treatment too? Equal justice for all. Can we just move Conservatives inland and get rid of the west coast (and a few places on the east coast)?

      Oh, and another thought: How about checking the kids shoes and see if they are top of the line, and whether they have cable, XBox, cell phones, good looking hairdo, uptown fingernails, pay their car insurance, have a nice car. If they fail all those things, except the insurance, then put them on a monthly payment plan. I was in our local police dept giving a statement on an accident and a elderly black gentleman was in there paying his last payment on his ticket so that plan works.

      Seattle doesn’t have a lot of good cops, but this officer is a GREAT cop! Which means the other cops will have it out for him, the KCDA will be out for him, and the social justice ( no faith in GOD ) croud will be out for him, God please watch out over this man and every Great cop like him.
      This county, King, is a corn hole of socialistic progressive hypocrisy and folks they don’t mean to just “ go away ” because of a small thing called elections, not this time. We are seeing the fierce hatred that they have for anyone and anything which stands in the way of their achieving there goal or destroying America to establish their “ one world socialist unjust government”.

      Well, because the minorities still choose not to obey the laws, we will change the laws to make it where they are no longer breaking the laws. So because the majority of murders happen in rural or ghetto areas, we will no longer investigate them either? Blacks are still outraged that cops have not found TPAC or Biggies killers. Damned if we do, damned if we don’t. Liberals love to try to treat the causes of one actions and never encouraging people not to do those actions. Telling someone not to do an action is racist.

      I’ve seen this coming for a long time! I was a cop for 19 years in Central WA. My department had been looked at due to high numbers of hispanic arrests. Though we pointed out that the city as a whole has a higher percentage of hispanics, that was responded with things like “So that makes it okay to target them?” We, fortunately, dodged the bullet and were able to continue with our job. But this wave is coming and it figures it starts in “THE PEOPLES SOCIALIST REPUBLIC OF PUGET SOUND”. How fitting. You all stay safe! Fight the good fight!

      Just another example of how much work we as true American loving patriots have to do to clean up our country and bring it back to Christian values. This effort must be done on all levels. If you are voting for anyone with a D. after their name you are moving in the wrong direction. If you are voting for anyone with an R. make sure they are the best of all the candidates to achieve our objectives. Then if they don’t keep their promises and live up to your expectations vote them out in the next election.

      This fails the smell test at so many levels it’s difficult to know where to begin. The bottom line is, it doesn’t matter if you are poor or not. What matters is self reliance and responsibility. If you commit crime you must be responsible for your actions. Being poor is not a stay out of jail card in this situation because an officer would have to profile the suspect to ascertain if the person in question is poor or has means. Given the City Attorney’s position, you would not profile a white person because they don’t fall into that special category of “minority.” And poor whites are not part of any consideration. This is reverse discrimination and bigotry straight up.

      I’m not sure what law school that City Attorney Holmes attended, but in my degree work in Administration of Justice I never studied or heard the phrase “institutional causes of racism…in the criminal justice.” Holmes has a Social Justice position based on Progressive redistribution ideology. Mr. Holmes took an oath of office to uphold the Constitution and the laws of his state. He is in direct violation of that oath.

      I used to live in Columbia City (in Rainier Valley)
      Do remember a SPD officer we called “Robo Cop” who worked out of South Precinct
      Jeff is a damn good friend of mine as many other officers are.
      Jeff is retired on medical leave. I‘m not sure where he’s at now.
      I’ve seen quite a few shootings in South Seattle
      Doctors put me on retirement too. So I got the hell out as fast as possible and out of Washington state, and back home to Wyoming, the most conservative state in the union.
      You should consider moving out here. We have very little crime, and people do carry guns openly.
      And soon, if Gov. Matt Mead signs the bill, we will have Alaska style concealed carry No permit required.
