‘Shut Up You Mother F***er!’: Man Suing PA State Police After Gruesome Beating & Arrest (Watch the Video Here)

(Source: Daily Mail)

A man is suing the Pennsylvania State Police, alleging police brutality after he was beaten so severely that one of the officers broke his hand punching him during the arrest, WBNG-TV reports. Video of the incident, which occurred in late 2010, was caught on one of the state trooper’s dash cameras but was just uploaded to YouTube a few weeks ago.

The suspect, Robert Leone, of Vestal, N.Y., was reportedly pulled over on suspicion of committing a minor hit-and-run in Bradford County, Pa. Some of Leone’s injuries are displayed in a gruesome mugshot where his entire right eye is swollen shut and his face is extremely bruised.

In the video, a terrifying scene plays out. Two Pennsylvania State Police cars box in Leone’s vehicle as troopers instruct him to exit. Shortly later, another trooper is seen shooting Leone with a Taser through the sunroof.

The same officer is then seen jumping off the car, kicking Leone as other officers cuff him. The troopers reportedly testified that Leone was fighting and resisting them, but the video doesn’t clearly show him being violent towards police.

Trooper Scott Renfer reportedly broke his hand after delivering “blow after blow” to Leone’s head. The suspect also argues he was repeatedly kicked and Tased while he was off-camera.

In the raw video, one of the state troopers can be heard yelling at Leone: ”Do you know who you’re messing with? This is the Pennsylvania State Police.”

The verbal abuse that ensued is undeniable.

“F***ing pull over means be pulled the f*** over. You’re going to be somebody’s f***ing butt f*** inside,” another officer can be heard yelling.

Towards the end of the video, Leone can be heard moaning in apparent terror as he repeatedly tells officers he is “sorry.”

“Are you f***ing stupid?” a trooper asks.

“I’m sorry,” Leone says again before continuing to moan loudly.

“Shut up you mother f***er,” a different officer shouts back at him.

The lawsuit asserts police did not allow EMS personnel to treat Leone at the scene and refused to let him be transported by ambulance to the hospital. Instead, they hogtied him and threw him in the back of a police car before taking him to get medical attention.

Meanwhile, the trooper who broke his hand beating on Leone’s head rode in the ambulance en route to the hospital.

Joan Leone, Robrt’s  mother, told WBNG she was horrified when she spoke to her son for the first time after his arrest.

“They put him on the phone and he starts screaming that he has been beaten within an inch of his life. They tried to kill him through the night. He has been threatened that they are going to kill him and make it look like a suicide or an accident,” she said. “[Leone said] That these guys are crazy and you’ve got to get me out of here, they’ve been beating me. And the minute they said that, they pulled the phone from him and I was disconnected.”

Leone was convicted in late 2010 of a number of charges, such as assault, fleeing or eluding police and resisting arrest. He is currently serving a 48-month prison sentence. And though the incident happened more than a year ago, his supporters are still advocating for Leone’s release and want the officers involved to face punishment.

Author and former Pennsylvania state trooper Larry Hohol has made it a personal mission to get justice for Leone. He was the one who uploaded the video to YouTube and he regularly posts updates on the case on his website. He says Leone’s case reminds him of the infamous Rodney King beating.

Further, roughly 50 protesters took to the streets about month ago in Towanda, Pa., advocating for Leone’s release and punishment for the officers who beat him up.

“There‘s possibly a good chance that there’s a cover up at all levels,” said Mike Kitner, one of the protesters. “We just want some answers, we want somebody to come down and look into it because we’re not getting any.”

In a statement to WBNG, the Bradford County Commission said:

The Bradford County Commissioners are certainly concerned about any allegations of inappropriate treatment inflicted on any individual involved in the criminal justice system.

The Commissioners recognize that there are two sides to every story and a pending Federal Lawsuit should answer some of those questions. However, the County’s sole involvement in this matter is their legal obligation to incarcerate prisoners who have been remanded to their facilities through the court system by a District Magistrate or a County Judge.

Bradford County District Attorney Dan Barrett said Leone had “abusive levels” of the stimulant drug Adderall in his system when he was arrested, WBNG reports.

The raw video of Leone’s arrest can be seen, below. (Warning: Graphic Language)

the police are armed to the teeth with glocks, sticks, tazers, vests and are terrified to get hurt.
They hide behind masks and attack in wild mob frenzies. Most of them are rhoided up ******** looking to get some licks in.

We are seeing the beginning of brown shirted government goons abusing those they are being paid to SERVE and PROTECT.

      I don’t think so.

I think it is conditioning. They deal with many bad people. At times when when someone gives them a little trouble, they go off on them. These people need some sort of psychological help before this happens. There are people that leave fields like psychology or law enforcement because they are thru with dealing other peoples problems. They are spent. I wonder if police department budget for psychological help for officers.

It is a very dangerous at that point for an officer because the person in the vehicle could have a weapon. They could have a weapon, they could just be freezing out of panic or they could be passively resisting. In the latter two, you don’t go go Rambo on them.

If it were my kid I wouldn’t condone them leaving the scene of an accident but I would be suing these cops for everything.

While we don’t really know the story behind the video and no one here on the blaze has read or heard all the evidence, it does seem to be excessive when the man was already subdued. I beleive that our police force is simply a reflection of our greater society. As our society becomes less respectful, less civil, and less cerebral (more base), so do the various institutions that are no better than the pool of people that are recruited from to fill those positions. More and more both police and politicians seem to become more drunk on the exercise of their power and authority. It is my belief that when the state takes ever more increasing control of the people the temptation of the police force is to feel above the people and to abuse their authority. Of couurse I know there is great oofficerss outt there, but I do believe will see more and more abuse of power as individual liberties continue to be eroded.

walkabout, you are wrong. It is not all about conditioning. I’m sure that the police deal with stupid people on a daily basis, but, if they cannot handle carrying out their duties of securing the peace and collecting evidence so that SOCIETY can judge the accused and punish accordingly, then they should be terminated on the spot. Also, I can personally testify to the fact that many police are steroids users and abusers and they are as dangerous or more dangerous than the criminals that they arrest.

Behold the tip of the too powerful politician’s spear: U.S. law enforcement.

‘To Protect and Serve the Powerful Politicians’

As you Americans allow your politicians to wrest more and more power from you, you are growing an evil monster that will certainly feed on you.

Big government = powerful politicians = absolute power = corruption = slavery = ‘punishment’ from their henchmen (U.S. law enforcement), and eventually the military.

There is only one other way for all of this to end, and that’s a return to individual freedom.

This country is screaming toward tyranny.

The IRS will enforce Obamacare, folks. Just how do you suppose that will turn out for you and your loved ones?

You are all going to have experience with the state’s officials in the coming years, and ultimately it will not turn out well for you.

What is happening to your country now is EXACTLY what our founders were trying to prevent.

This is face of abuses of power–it is your future, Americans. Unless, you turn back now.

I think some police & mental health professionals are around too many problems for too long. There was a Highlander episode about an immortal that had too much “evil” from dealing with the bad immortals. It is a fiction series I know. But we see it in Nietze’s saying (Paraphrasing) be careful when you fight with dragons or you may become one.

I said in this post or another on this story that nothing should be off camera. Tech is cheap enough that cops should have their own personal cameras. In this case I think the cop knew he was going too far because he took it off camera. He knows the viewing angle of the camera.

If they were on steroids & that affected their judgment I just as soon as take them out back.

I don’t know when it happened, but it’s now
      “Us against them”.
I suspect it about the time DHS was formed, and cities got tons of new
killing gear. Well, all that training, and you gotta kill someone.
Even worse is that these cops will get off, and their partners will lie to cover for them.

I have long suggested that cops should all be forced to carry a small voice recorder.

Welcome to what has been SOP for years–curbside justice. Technology has simply brought it up close and personal to a video player near you, sometimes in just minutes after the act. Kelly Thomas (beaten to death a year ago by Fullerton, CA PD officers for ‘contempt of cop’) was just one of many more who will unjustifiably die under color of authority at the hands of raging police. I know because I and my back-up administered the same brand of justice one night in the early 80s–before everyone carried video cams and mandatory recorders that could refute my sworn testimony. I finally had to leave law enforcement (aka: human garbage removal) or lose my soul.

Someday the citizens will reach their saturation point and push back–harder than authorities can imagine. Go view Oakland PD’s Memorial Wall for the year 1973. “He who does not learn from history is condemned to repeat it.”–G. Santayana. In other words, “What goes around comes around.”

When the citizens if this country finally get sick of this crap and the SHTF, the cops will never know what hit them. These goons think that the people are on their side and that they cannot ever be beaten. Watch them run like scared rabbits, ripping their uniforms off in order to blend into the populace. That is what they always do. If it gets to that point, and it will, they will be decimated.

Wow. you sound like an occupy member.

I am a police officer. I am really getting sick and tired of people like you whining that the police are to aggressive or too well armed. Let me tell you something. More of us are aware of what going on in the government and are against it more than you think. We will be the ones who will be forced to make a stand one way or the other when the stuff hits the fan. We will be the ones facing off against the feds, or some of our own who are willing to follow illegal orders or turn on the people we are supposed to protect.

Everyday we deal with stuff that would make people like yourself run in fear or break down crying. We aren’t government goons, assshat. We are the ones running into the schools or shopping malls when there is an active shooter while people like yourself run away. We have lost 49 of our brothers and sisters this year already. Last year we lost 173 officers. Local police are your last line of defense and your first responders when something happens. We aren’t trying to take away your rights. We do however sometimes have to protect people from themselves by enforcing laws.

Sure there are some bad apples out there that make the rest look bad, You have that in anything. But in this guys case, and in all the others, you don’t know the full story of what happened. You only see that one little bit of tape.

Maybe next time you need help you should call the occupy crowd.

This is true. Unfortunately there are people who support the police no matter what. I am very supportive of police, but scenes like this are an obvious abuse of power. The police state will be worse, because video evidence, personal narratives, etc., will have even less affect than it does now. Its hard to understand why so many people defend the police in any situation no matter what the evidence. And yes, policemen do get stressed and scared, but thats why they go through training so they don’t overreact and beat the crap out of some non-hostile person. “With great power comes great responsibility.”

This has obviously been going on since ‘Rodney King’ and is still going on today. I‘ve heard and assume there are ’good‘ cops but from what I’ve ‘learned’ in my(previous) law classes, it is a VERY corrupt organization. This came from a black man with 30+ years on the police force. He taught us that the police lie, cheat and do whatever it takes to ‘bring somebody down’. The whole government is corrupt.

INTERCEPTOR — “We have lost 49 of our brothers and sisters this year already. Last year we lost 173 officers.”

The year is half-over, 49 (if the number is accurate) is well below last year’s trend. Let’s hope it says at 49. Every death is a tragedy…each one represents someone who will never see their spouse, child, sibling or parent again. Horrifying.

At the same time, in 2010 (latest year I could find statistics for…) there were over 1500 officers involved in excessive force complaints. 127 deaths were associated with credible excessive force reports. This is on top of the 354 officers accused of sexual assault the same year, over 50% of which were committed against minors.

According to the Cato Institute, murder, sexual assaults and physical assaults happen at a rate of 5.5, 67.8 and 264.7 respectively per 100,000 officers. These are each ABOVE the same rates among the general population (5, 28.7, 262.8, respectively). (SOURCE: http://www.policemisconduct.net/statistics/2010-annual-report/)

Yes, most officers are not going to be involved in anything like this. However, such platitudes are more often than not an attempt to whitewash the issue. There shouldn’t be a single incident of excessive force or sexual assault by someone with a badge and we should be working to eliminate those.

Nothing going to be done because this was a white male they attacked. You could even see on of the police officers attempting to tear off one of the doors so he could get at the man and join into the beating. Police will even beat up mentally retarded and diabetics sending them to eRs for no justification. sorry, that doesn’t wash… if they taze, they are exscoriated for using too much force… if they shoot, they are called murderers. pepper spray works to varying degrees but can afflict the officers as well.

when you run from the po po, there is an adrenaline response. they have ZERO idea why you ran. anyone who tries to run should expect to be ruffed up. when we started acting like police could not be human and had to behave with ever changing, never police focused rules of engagement, we became part of the problem. i often wonder why anyone would want to be a policeman ‘or woman’ as the only thing they get is grief… they deal with the dregs of society and the good people either turn their back on them or throw them under the bus at the first hint of ‘too much force.’

i’ll say it again… if the police stop you. stop. don’t run.
then again, to the police, be careful barging into homes without offering warning… i know as well that there are ample cases where the power of the badge went to an officer’s head, or where a computer error or ill human intent sent a breach team to the wrong address.

in short, i support the officers until the whole story is known. and i suppor their enforcing the current laws, but will stand against this becoming a police state.

Stare at his swollen bloodied face until you feel sick to your stomach…

Now close your eyes and imagine how much more sick to your stomach you’ll feel when you can’t even identify the crushed and lifeless bodies of your spouse and children after he’s run over them in his next attempt to evade police.

Until you’ve had to walk in the shoes of these officers and scrape the yet-to-be identified human remains of your loved ones off your shoes while cleaning up the accident scene caused by a drunk or runaway driver… until then, you have no right to judge their actions in subduing jerks like this.

Do you think most cops really enjoy subduing whiny, snotty, disrespectful lawbreakers who’ve never been taught by their cowardly parents to feel anything for anyone but themselves? After doing a hit & run, leading police on a dangerous high-speed chase, causing an accident, resisting arrest, being handcuffed and even hogtied in a cruiser, this kid still chose to spit at an officer! What else can the officers conclude but that the police didn’t have his attention yet!

All you cowards who want to sue the police over this incident – you gotta ask yourself, ‘Do I wanna hear this kid’s screams of protest or my own as I bury my loved ones after this human garbage pulls this stunt again?’ If you side with this POS kid, then I pray he takes your family before he takes what’s left of mine… I’ve buried enough of mine already.

Maybe you would prefer the police wear bright floral colors and carry their gear in a nice purse, The police could hand out candy and rainbow stickers to pacify violent perpetrators. If the police could drive a Prius or a Smart car then the offenders wouldn’t be intimidated and just give themselves up peacefully. Oh hey here’s a idea, instead of jail everyone could down to your OWS tent and talk out their differences, smoke a big old peace pipe full of medical marijuana and have a group hug.

Minneapolis, MN – Late June 2012 at 2:45AM a Mr. King was beaten by police after raising his hands in the air and stating he carried a CC Permit and a concealed weapon. Mr. King had not been drinking or committing any crime. While returning to his parked car, police noticed a “bulge” under his shirt and asked him what is was. At that time Mr. King put his hands above his head and declared both permit and weapon. The police officer grabbed King by the throat and slammed him into a build, yelled “GUN GUN GUN!” to nearby officers. The police took King down to the side-walk (rather hard), pressed charges and took King to the hospital. Absolutely ZERO local coverage, and yes, Mr. King is black.

What sick disgusting PIGS they are. I hope they have short and miserable lives. I can personally attest their their perverted minds — power tripping perverts. The drug war made the United States a police state, they are everywhere on every road just pulling people over all day everyday. Conservatives and liberal politicians built superfluous prisons with over-zealous law enforcement and they make a living off of our incarceration and fines. Screw them all. I really get mad when I realize the US has twice the per capita incarceration rate as the Communist Chinese and we still have people that have the audacity to say they are freedom lovers and drug warriors simultaneously?? We are building prisons while Latin America is building cities it makes me want to puke. These A-holes need to settle the F down. We need to do something — decriminalize drugs and legalize and regulate weak ones — Like weed. And if anyone out there thinks WEED is such a a big problem that it is worth throwing millions of Americans in prison then you are an ignorant fool and if you are a conservative you should not be surprised when Americans hate the USA.

First of all my friend I’m not sure if the chinese prison population is lower per capita than the USA, but even if it is true, it’s more than likely due to the fact that they simply kill many of their prisoners.
Secondly, millions of Americans ARE NOT in jail due to criminal charges stemming from selling marijuana. 99.9 percent of all criminal charges related to marijuana offense are plead out to a summary offense not much different than a traffic ticket.
Lastly, marijuana is a gateway drug which many young people use then graduate to heroin or other extremely addictive narcotics. So NO, let’s not make marijuana legal so you can sit around, get high and repeatedly watch PT109 while crushing bag after bag of Doritos.

The biggest problem is that they‘ve been militarized and trained to the mindset that they’re going into combat when they start their shift. They‘re taught to consider anyone who isn’t a cop as hostile.
I know a lot of cops and I‘ve been hanging out with them when they’re relaxed with their guard down and listened to how they think. It’s terrifying.

It was obvious they were decent and you could easily profile them as such, clean shaven, well groomed, shirt tucked in..polite, cooperative. This is all but gone in our society and our police officers are dealing with more nut cases everyday and some of them average everyday people. Kelly Thomas was a young man in Fullerton, CA beat to death by police after a long **** chat on the sidewalk. He was not a criminal nor was he involved in a crime. They just thought he was since someone reported cars being broke into in the area. They smashed his face to pieces with the butt end of a taser. He died days later from massive face trauma. Cops need to throttle back! Make a clean arrest and let the courts sort it all out.

They eventually get so dependent on federal money that they will go out and hire ANYBODY and stuff ‘em inside a uniform so that they can keep on getting those government grants:

In college my roommate was beaten to a pulp by cops in our home. I was arrested that night for calling the police on the police. After my 911 tape was used my charges were cleared but the cops had no issue taking the stand and telling two completely different stories. I think we need a repeal of all federal gun laws. The only gun laws we should have if any are local gun laws. This would allow the American citizens to be armed to the point they feel safe. If the police thugs have armed trucks, machine guns, and body armor the only thing that combat that is RPGs, machine guns, and body armor. You give the citizens the ability to get those weapons cops will stop this nonsense.

Now people saying RPGs? Yeah RPGs. These cops will drive an armored truck through the front of the persons house, fire in flashbangs and tear gas, use drones, have snipers, and follow it up with 20 cops armed with machine guns to storm a house. They wont drive that truck through your house with the prospect of it getting blown up by a RPG. This would force police to use common sense and non lethal tactics when dealing with US citizens.

I would rather have few problems with RPGs than daily and weekly problems with jackboot thugs.

What I find interesting is that the liberals are responsible for things like Waco and Ruby Ridge and are definitely the one that want only the police to have any fire power at all. In the above cases the people did not attack anybody, the “police” attacked them. Conservatives need to get on boards and volunteer with the police departments and support the good guys against the bad. Not a good thing to indict all cops for the sins of the few. We must all make sure that as the public we set the parameters and hold them to it without putting them in danger. The ones suing are not sweet innocents and should not be able to get rich off this stuff, but the cops involved if proven to be culpable should be gone and all benefits terminated.

I’ve never met a police officer or state trooper who was anything but a subsidized waste of water.

However, I have the utmost respect for the elected office of sheriff. They are held accountable every year they come up for reelection and they behave accordingly. When you meet a sheriff’s deputy you will note a palpable distinction between how he behaves and how a police officer behaves. They are generally more cordial and soft-spoken. Another neat fact about sheriffs is that they have more authority over their county than either the governor or the President of the United States. My father has made nice with his sheriff for these very reasons. My father’s sheriff suggested that he obtain a CCW and offered to give him the authority to carry inside the county without even taking the test. That is an exhibition of trust which has fostered respect and reciprocal trust. It’s also a predilection you will not see in any police officer.

There have always been and will always be rejects that grow up to be cops. They had them in Nazi Germany, they had them in Cuba, they have them here. There is only one way to deal with them. When the SHTF, you have to choose a side. With the goons, or against the goons. No other choice.

The same exact thing happened to a friend of mine. We conservatives who support the police have to realize that this sort of thing happens FREQUENTLY. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts ABSOLUTELY. The police have the job of apprehending, not delivery body blows JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT!

As a former cop I have to agree with you. While most cops are great guys and I would trust them impatiently, the remainder scare the absolute life out of me. Have seen too many of them and that is the main reason that I am not longer a civilian cop.

Forgot the mention that these law enforcement miscreants are protected by the unions as much as teachers are protected for screwing up our children. When I was a civilian cop I had to be in two of these unions to keep my job.

Thank you for pointing out something that has driven me nuts for years. Conservatives are so bad about turning a blind eye when it comes to dirty cops like these savages, and it makes not sense. Corrupt police are an extension of corrupt politicians. They are covered for by liberal unions and nanny state big government clowns. But because they shoot guns, too many on the right think that they can identify with them. By definition, there is *nothing* conservative about police officers who abuse their position of authority to harm others, criminal or not.

Conservatives share as much as the blame, in their desire for “law and order” they have been, for far too long, too willing to turn a blind-eye to police misconduct or justify it.

You know, I’m not surprised. We have had several incidents in the last few years regarding PSP troopers out of the Chambersburg Pa barracks. I think the PSP has some type of serious internal problem and it should be addressed.
