Sign of the Times: Even the Tooth Fairy Is Cutting Back

According to a Visa survey earlier this month, Tooth Fairy rates dropped 40 cents in the last year.

Turns out nothing is safe in this economy, not even the Tooth Fairy.

The Denver Post reports that kids swapping their fallen teeth for cash are netting an average of 40 cents less than what they were getting a year ago. The going rate for a lost tooth is $2.60, down from $3, according to a nationwide Visa poll conducted earlier this month.

In other words, the fairy’s gotten thrifty.

Rates vary across the country, with the lowest average payout in the East. There, children can expect about $2.10, down 38 percent from $3.40 last year. In the South it’s 2.60, down from $3.30, and in the Midwest it’s $2.80, down just 10 cents from $2.90.

The only region where Tooth Fairy’s budget increased was the West, where averages increased from $2.70 to $2.80.

And apparently all teeth are not created equal โ€” according to the Post, molars and front teeth seem to be worth more.

Other findings from the study: 10 percent of children receive no money from the Tooth Fairy, up from 6 percent the year before; 7 percent receive less than one dollar; 29 percent receive $1; 18 percent receive between $2 and $4; and 18 percent receive $5, down from 22 percent last year.

Jason Alderman, Visa’s senior director of financial education, said the poll is a good way to start teaching children about finance.

“The survey gives parents the opportunity to start talking with kids โ€” even pretty little ones โ€” about money management,” Alderman said. “What we have gotten from the Tooth Fairy is seared in our brains. … You probably don’t remember the check that Aunt Edna sent you for your birthday, but you remember how much the Tooth Fairy left you.”

My son read that over my shoulder (he’s 12 now) and complained that he was getting 75 cents when his friends were getting 2.00. this was a few years back. I told him I was lucky to get a quarter. Sometimes I only got a dime.

I got a dime as a kid, gave my children a quarter! When I remembered to get up in the middle of the night, LOL. The last few teeth, they just came to me in the morning and said “where’s my quarter?” No crying over the death of the tooth fairy in my house!

3$, 2.60$ Thats a lot of money for a tooth. My kids get a dollar, and I think that is probably too much. I was thinking of going to 50 cents, and telling them that the tooth fairy is having trouble with money.

Parents! You may be eligible for Obama’s new Tooth Coupons. They are designed to prevent using cash for Tooth Fairy funds. Nancy Pelosi will unveil more details in an upcoming press conference.

The Tooth Fairy has been abducted and sent to a FEMA reeducation camp where he will be lobotimized and trained to be an IRS agent toting a 12 guage shotgun. Remember, it’s called “Revenue”.

Ya, Progressives loves to waste other people’s money.

I heard of a study in which “scientists” found there are more births in areas where there are storks.
    I’m not joking.

By the way, isn’t it amazing that these “scientists” almost always find “proof” of exactly what they want to find? They use bogus samples and manipulated statistics. That makes them “corrupt government cronies” and not scientific at all.

The Tooth Fairy is assigned to the Social Security Administration, and will be subject to ObamaCare in 2014, if a waiver is not granted. The Tooth Fairy would have more funding, but Democrats have been embezzling the fund since Clinton’s administration, and the money is now missing. Unfortunately, there is no provision on the table to fund the Tooth Fairy in the FY 2012 budget.
Call your Congressional Representative and complain.

Just be warned, rumor has it that they’ll only respond with a form email, thanking your for your concern, thereby satisfying the Freedom of Information Act.

Just as well. I think the Obama administration has taken over the Easter Bunny business too. It’s a socialist program, run by a new goverment agency, headed by the Easter Bunny Czar, paid for with taxpayer bailout money!

Right now, behind closed doors in dirty backroom deals, Cass Sunstein is working on new regulation to socialize Santa Claus. Rudolf is being defunded unless he converts to Islam, and Frosty the Snowman is about to be banned for being racist. I think Sheila Jackson Lee is in on that deal, but I’m not sure.
