Sink Concedes to Scott in Florida Gov. Race

From the Tampa Tribune:

Alex Sink conceded the election for governor of Florida this morning to Rick Scott. The Democratic candidate gave her concession speech from Tampa, saying she was proud of her staff and the people who voted for her.

“We fought very, very hard,” she said from a podium at the Tampa Marriott Waterside at 10:30 a.m. today. “We heard those voices from every one of those 67 counties here in Florida.

“So many people who love our state and care deeply about our future gave their time, their money, their toil, sweat even their tears this morning for this campaign.

“I’ve lived a long time. I’ve seen lot of ups and downs. Every morning, we wake up to a new day and to another day. The sun is shining on Florida, and my greatest hope is the sun will continue to shine for the state of Florida.”

Scott was expected to give his victory speech at noon.

UPDATE:

Scott has just wrapped up his victory speech:

Another one bites the dust, I guess her name said it all. But she should change it to Sunk. There is hope for Florida after all.

Thank God — but I agree with an above-comment: Why so close, Florida?

Also (and I’ll probably get flack for this), but why — as the woman is married — does she not use her married name? Is she ashamed? I realize that many “happily-married” women, today, do not use their husbands’ surnames, and use the rationale that people might not realize that they’re one-in-the-same person. Then, don’t get marrried! It’s just another example of the continued dilution of the marriage vows, in our Progressive society today.

Florida – I will again include them as a Southern State. Before, I would say that from Florida you would have to travel north to get to the real south. Way to go Florida!

Way to go Florida! You’ve spoken your mind and voted your heart – West…Rubio…Scott. I‘m from Washington and we’re fighting hard, but the Blues on the westside are a tough nut to crack. California? I almost thought they had a brain, but I was caught up in patriotism. I don‘t think there’s any hope for them.

God Bless America! We begin now at two more hard years of work…and get this ship turned around.

Speaking of god I think I heard him speaking to OB this morning and giving him today’s teleprompter materials for the big speech today. I could have been wrong, I guess it could have been spooky dude as they kinda sound the same. Any way I think I herd him say something about apologizing to the American people for not being clear enough and the stupid Americans did not understand who they were suppose to vote for or something like that. We will listen today and hear gods real words when ob delivers them from his prompter.

Scary that it was even close! What is the matter with my fellow Floridians? Rubio won by a wide margin, but why was this so close? Are the people in my state really that stupid? (rhetorical question :) )

There were questions, as you know I’m sure, about his company that were never answered (no charges brought) and I think that probably played a roll. On the other hand there were questions about Sink also. That’s the only reason for close race I think. We voted Scott.

I’m sure it has to do with that Medicare fraud settlement. I don’t know what to believe about that whole fiasco, it seems shady, but I do know he was on of the first CEOs to speak out against the the healthcare bill when Clinton was pushing it and I know he’ll try to protect Florida from it so that got my vote…. even though I had to hold my nose while doing it.

I think much of the ‘questions’ surrounding him was due to the fraud settlement, but… not just that… he was campaigning on “cutting government”, and that is scaring a lot of State government workers. I am a state government worker. He was in our offices one day, and I got to meet him. Actually ran into him in the elevator. He was VERY personable. There was no fanfare, no entourage, no cameras… just him, and one other lady and he turned to me(lowly me) and said, “Hi, I’m Rick Scott… I’m running for Governor.” I was speechless… never expected him to say much of anything to me. He asked what I did there and I told him and he commented about that. He had a very genuine look to him… like, what you see is what you get. We all SHOULD be all about smaller government, cutting spending, less taxes, helping small businesses, all he stands for, but it’s scaring a lot of folks who are depending on their jobs(of course). I have to say though, there are a few I’d like to see go… those making WAY more than they should, and so many making very little… it amazes me how government can be so askew when it comes to payroll and other spending. So, I am hoping I will keep my job, but that he does what it takes to clean things up. I am looking to God for my job… not any man anyway, so I’m not worrying. Keepin’ the faith. Like Rick Scott!

Yeah, sorry guys…I have written in a few threads this morning…Yeah, I know it was the fraud issue that caused people to think twice about Scott. I sure did. I mention elsewhere that he just looks sleazy. I am not judging him, but my discernment is ringing bells and sending up red flags every time I see him.

      I hope I am wrong…

But still…It is an easy choice, I do not care if Scott is a convicted murderer, I would still vote for him over Sink…

Rebelwithacause, thank you for posting your impressions of him in person. It makes me feel slightly better. My wife is an MDS coordinator with a large chain of nursing homes. In other words, she deals with medicare, medicade, and insurance…She knows all about how the system works in the medical field and she says the fraud issue is much election to-do about nothing, everyone tires to “game” the system. It is like a NASCAR race, you really do not cheat as much as see how much you can get away with. Besides, Scott, as CEO, would have had nothing to do with the internal issues of one department.

But anyway…Let’s hope he is true to his word, he has said many good things.

@ TROLLTRAINER – well, I’m glad I made you feel a little better, but… to tell you the truth, while I liked him “personally”, I’m not sure I will like him as our Governor. Then again, I didn’t like the idea of Sink either. My field of expertise is really customer support on the technical end, but I support an array of folks who deal with Medicaid fraud and abuse and Medicaid providers and recipients. I’ve heard a LOT. A lot of sad stuff, and a lot that ****** me off. I can’t hardly believe that Scott would have knowingly allowed what was going on in his business. If he did, well… I figure… he’ll get his one day. Karma has a way of working out sooner or later. For the time being, I can only hope and pray we see SOME good come from his win. Maybe not a LOT, but… more than maybe we would’ve seen from Sink. Who knows… time will tell. However, on a personal level, I got the feeling that I‘d enjoy sitting down to beers with him and shootin’ the $hit! (for what it’s worth)
