Sinkhole Swallows Chinese Girl Whole

Have you ever done something so embarrassing that you wish the ground would open up and swallow you whole? Do you have a lot of these moments?

If you’re like us (and we know we are), then consider moving to this town in China. Apparently, sinkholes are a bit of a problem.

CNN reports:

And don’t worry: if you ever change your mind about the whole “I wish the earth would eat me” thing, there is always the chance a kindhearted cabbie will save you.

This is so obviously staged with the camera just happening to pan on the girl and taking closeups. I am beginning to think that the operators of this web sites are not very bright.

Really, it couldn’t be that the clip was shown in a CNN report and they had edited the zoom. I’m beginning to think you are definitely not a bright individual.

Jeanne Moos: “No one even clapped and some blamed her…”
Leave it to a (liberal? I confess I don’t know) reporter to chide the Chinese for not rewarding stupidity with an ovation, and absolving her of her willful ignorance of safety signage, like we Americans have been trained to do. Apparently, even in Communist China, some people still react with common sense, sorry Jeanne.

It‘s always worthy of clapping when someone’s life is saved. She may have been responsible – but don’t you think the taxi driver at least deserves praise? He risked his life to save her. It’s a good thing she made it out alive, regardless if it was her mistake that sent her there.

Clap at home while watching this video on CNN, that’s fine. Take the taxi driver out for beers afterward. Give him a key to the city, for crying out loud. All fine. I’m still comforted knowing that there are others in this world (China even!) that don’t see the need for spectators and applause in moments like this that call for help and participation from everyone around. These people (taxi driver especially) were too concerned for the girl’s well-being and those of the rescuers that behaving like common spectators never occurred to them. God bless them all.

Somebody dug the whole all the way to China and sealed it with a weak cement!

I’m very surprised to see how the Chinese reacted in this video. Just a few months ago anyone remember seeing the little Chinese girl who was run over repeatedly and passed by onlookers?
