‘Slam His Head on the Ground!’ The Violent Teen Street Fight Vid That Got a FL Dad Arrested

A Hilsborough County, Florida dad has been arrested after video surfaced this week of him cheering on his son during a violent street fight. The dad, 41-year-old Philip Struthers, was charged with felony child abuse and a misdemeanor count of contributing to the delinquency of a child, the Smoking Gun reports.
In the video, filmed last Thursday afternoon, Struthers’s son “Jake” can be seen brawling shirtless with another boy. The fight was apparently over a girl. Philip can be heard in the background yelling, “Knock him out, Jake!” “Punch his eyes out!” “Slam his head on the ground!” and “Punch him, punch him!”

I could show you a slew of parents and peoples of all races doing this same thing on YouTube. The problem is our societal values in so many cases have degraded to this cheap thrill seeking which is evil at it’s core. Instead of emphasizing good morals, hard work and responsibility in our children, people are teaching that violence and the celebrity lifestyle is what should be achieved.

Well … I suppose if I wanted to move a country in the direction of tyranny, I would certainly try to come up with as much empirical evidence as I could to suggest that there are just too many people incapable of leading their own life. …. and then the sheeple will just hand over control of their own lives willingly.

However when an adult is present it is his responsibility to break up a public brawl between kids; especially if his own kid is involved. He should know that a fight in public will draw the attention of the police. If for that reason, and no other,. ..he should break it up to keep his kid from getting in trouble. If the kids want to fight..they will find a way to do so away from the peering eyes of the public. The father is not acting as an adult in the matter. He should not be standing by urging the fight on with the other ‘kids’. He is a moron.

Posted on April 14, 2011 at 10:20amGreat reply. You are right. Sometimes a person finds themselves in a situation where they have to fight. I was brought up that if I started a fight I would be in trouble but also if I ran from a fight I would also be in trouble.
The point is as a father and I happen to see my son fighting i WOULD NOT be screaming to encourage him on. I too would try and break up the fight and see what was the reason. I would then tell my son that if he had not other option that he should talk with the other guy and arrange to meet somewhere away from everyone. I have found in most all cases when two people meet alone they have a much greater chance of not wanting to kill ea other. When they have the crowd and friend cheering them on they feel they have to prove they are not afraid and tough. But when they meet alone they do not have that pressure. Yes sometimes they still fight but then it is between two people who feel they have no other option and when it‘s over it’s over. Just my two cents for today. The dad will get his fat ass kicked in jail for sure as he is a mouthy person who thinks he is bad. I have also learned no matter how bad you think you are, there’s always someone just a little badder down the road.

I do not agree with you, however, regardless of spelling.
Yep, Dad’s emotionally involved and obviously a coarse individual. Nation‘s full of them and that’s served us very well through many wars.
Consensual combat between two meatheads does not erode the fabric of our society. If anything it reinforces it. Boys fight. If they didn’t, who would volunteer for our Armed Forces? Yep, Dad’s a meathead. Appears that his child is as well. But Junior isn’t obese, doesn’t appear to be intoxicated or under the influence of illegal drugs. No gang tattoos or clothing evident. All present are well groomed, have clean clothes and seem to be ready to fight themselves. And no one present appears to be obese (other than the Dad). And they are outside, not destroying a Waffle House and ruining other patrons dining experience.
So if two young men have a disagreement that they cannot resolve through talking it out, they can resolve it the old fashion way, mano y mano. Not with pistols, like cowardly domestic gangmembers or foreign national gangs slaughtering their rivals and innocent bystanders – or Burr and Hamilton. They go slug it out, settle their issue, shake on it and move on.
I agree that once a man is merely defending the fight must be ended by responsible spectators and Dad failed to teach this lesson – his color commentary doesn’t suggest a surplus of rational, deliberative thought and that was his failure. The last lesson is to separate them before serious injury, shake and end it. Bury the hatchet and resolve the conflict. The winner respects the loser for his courage, the loser respects the winner for his victory and will decide more carefully if he wants to fight about it next time. Lesson learned.
But an agreed fight between young men is far better than an escalation of violence between them like bullying, which is indicative of a societal devolution that is eroding our social fabric – just look at Wisconson. Go watch those videos again and you’ll see plenty of protestors that have that unmistakable look that comes from never being punched. It’s the basis of incivility, in children and children grown old without maturing, acting out without consequences.
Do not forget that when this nation could not resolve a divisive issue, we drew a line, picked our sides and commenced to slaughtering each other in what remains our bloodiest conflict. And it was settled, we shook hands and buried the hatchet. It is both a sad and proud moment in our nations history but one we do well to remember.

That being said, I was watching my friends son who was 8 years old. We went to a burger place with a playground and the boy wanted to go climbing. I let him do it. Inside the playground my friends boy encountered another boy who promptly kicked him in the stomach and said, “I’m batman and he is the joker”. My friends kid looked down at me and said he kicked me. I was expecting the other kids dad to tell his son to stop. The father a young Marine told his son good job. That is where I sort of lost it. I was in my mid 20′s. And not using my best judgement told my friends son something like, Okay, the other boy wants to play rough. Go ahead and practice your choke holds (My friends son was in brazilian jiu jitsu). If the kids dad wants to to “roll” or “throw” I’m game. I know I can take him out.
I proceeded to take off my baggy shirt and do a light stretch. Funny thing. The shirt under my shirt was for the street fighting school I was training at. The Marine told his kid it was time for them to leave. He never once looked me in the eye. My burger was exceptional that day. It’s funny to watch bullies when they are about to lose.
This kids dad is a coward.
