‘Slaveholders’: Mark Levin Defends the Founders From Statists, the Left & Utopians

The Young America’s Foundation, the principal youth activism wing of the conservative movement, released on Thursday a promotional video featuring Mark Levin for their upcoming movie, “The Conservatives.”

“The purpose of our constitution is not to grow a centralized, all-powerful, concentrated Federal government,” Levin says.

“What the founders were trying to do is figure out how to preserve the civil society, how to protect individual liberty, and — at the same time — create a functioning government,” he adds.

Levin goes on to defend the Constitutional and the founding fathers saying, “the Left, the statists, the utopians — whatever who want to call them — reject the Constitution, they fight the Constitution, they dismiss the Constitution. And, they dismiss the framers, the authors of the Constitution … as throwbacks, as slaveholders and so forth.”

“What those men did in that time, is they created the most free society on the face of the earth.”

“Wouldn’t it be great to have Professor Levin on campus? Too bad that’ll never happen — that’s why YAF had to make a movie,” YAF spokesman Ron Meyer told TheBlaze in an email.

“‘The Conservatives’ presents a dynamic alternative to the Obama administration and their latte-sipping professor buddies who want to make younger generations forget about ‘American Exceptionalism’ and the American founding,” he adds.

The movie features some of the conservative movement’s best and brightest minds, including Mark Levin, Michelle Malkin, Jonah Goldberg, Monica Crowley, Ph.D., Dr. Walter Williams, Stephen Moore, and Peter Schweizer.

    I am a fan of all of the conservatives in this film, particularly Mark Levin. I’m astonished when people (Ron Paul supporters) call any of these fine people neocons. Mark Levin said early on he would vote for Bachmann or Santorum. Now that Romney is the nominee, Mark is supporting him, as are many people (including myself) that wouldn’t have picked him at all. This election is far, far too important to waste a vote. I’m sorry to the Paul people, but thats what you will be doing. Obama is the most radical, destructive president in history, and he must be stopped. This isn’t a typical “hold your nose and vote” election. WE NEED EVERYONE. Even Paul supporters (as some of my friends are) must be able to see that. I cannot understand for the life of me the “more conservative than thou” attitude. I am not happy about many of the Bush establishment repub policies, but i’m not shooting myself in the foot (head) this November with a Perot style vote. We are on the brink, and have so much work ahead of us. We need to take the senate, take the Presidency, and keep their feet to the fire. This government must be reigned in. Romney isn’t perfect by any means, but its a step in the right direction.

      Those are fine men you mentioned there Cous.. but, Levin not only believes in what they say, they believe in what Levin says. Mark Levin is a brilliant mind. I wish I had the intelligence he has when it comes to Conservatism. Hannity is a bit commercial for me too but, he is a conservative. Rush too. I’m a HUGE Judge Nap fan and Schiff Fan. But, i’m also a huge fan of Levin and Rush. You could have easily just commented how right Mark was in this video but, you have to spew the Liberal side of yourself. It makes me wonder which side you are really on. Are you or aren’t you a lover and follower of the constitution? Or are you so enamored with Dr. Paul that anyone that doesn’t bow to his feet is some how not a conservative. I voted for Dr. Paul. And I campaigned for him. I know he wouldn’t like the way the left leaning Paul supporters act. Join the conservatives. Not every man or woman that is a conservative will we 100% agree with. It’s impossible. Stop trying to make each of them live up to some kind of God status. Now it’s either Obama or Romney at this point. Time to decide. I know it‘s unfortunate that we couldn’t pick a better candidate but, blame the media for that. They love a good Rhino. And the sheep responded accordingly. Keep educating more and more people to the truth. They will come around. Let’s all stop the name calling of our own. Dr. Paul isn’t the end all be all to conservatism. Neither is anyone else.

      I think if some of you would read some of the sources I named your eyes would be opened to how hypocritical and contrary to the founding principles the so-called “patriotic conservatives” you listen to on the radio and tv are when they support big-government through militarism and imperialism and condone sacrificing liberty for security.
      I used to buy into that neo-con nonsense and while it is rejuvenating to become educated in the liberty movement from Locke to Jefferson to Bastiat to Spooner to Chodorov to Woods, it is equally frustrating to see so many people willing to be satisfied with this One-Party-Pretending-to-be-Two, out of control monster that our federal government has become.

      A couple of things;
      First, regarding your comment that I’m spewing my “Liberal” side and that you “wonder which side I’m on” – I don’t have a “Liberal” side. At least not in the sense that liberal is used today. I am sometimes accused of being on the wrong side because I’m not in favor of perpetual wars in which we are usually the aggressors and no declaration of war was ever made by Congress. This is contrary, not only to the foreign policy of the Founding Fathers and the Constitution, but also to the Christian Just War Doctrine, so if that makes me a “Liberal” then the least that my accusers should do is to admit that the opposite position is not the traditional conservative position, but that of the neo-conservatives (who began as leftist Trotkyites).
      Second, it is untrue that “Levin believes in what they say and they believe in what Levin says”. Levin has gone on hateful tirades against Ron Paul and when confronted by the likes of Woods and Church, Levin refused to debate the issues and instead called tham names and implied that debates with “The Great One” (more like “The Grate One”) were only attempts to gain fame. This cowardly position is the same one that atheist Richard Dawkins used when he refused to debate the brilliant Christian apologist William Lane Craig.
      Sorry, but I have zero respect for Levin.

      In regards to your “join the conservatives” comment. I have voted straight Republican since 1980. Please read Judge Napolitano’s latest book “It is Dangerous to be Right When the Government is Wrong”. The entire book is excellent but he makes very clear that there is no real difference between todays Republicans and Democrats. I consider myself a libertarian-leaning, Christian Conservative. I won’t join the neo-conservatives. They are truly Statists. I won’t be a part of it. You can blame me if Obama gets re-elected but I blame the media, the Republican Party (which has been corrupted by the neo-cons), and the sheep-like GOP voters who are completely unaware of the neo-con movement and don’t even realize that they are a part of it.

      I have no bilious hatred for conservatives. In fact I have been a conservative since probably before you were born. I actually don’t have hatred for anyone, but I do have a certain disrespect (almost contempt) for hypocrites.
      I find it hypocritical to say one wants a return to the Constitution but yet are fine with the Patriot Act, NDAA, Perpetual Wars undelared by Congress, and so many other un-Constitutional, Huge-Government acts supported by the GOP.
      I find it hypocritical to say one is a Christian, a follower of Jesus Christ, and yet enthusiastically support wars of aggression rather than strictly of defense.
      I find it hypocritical to use alcohol and yet insist that someone who uses marijuana be arrested. (By the way I have never used either).
      I find it hypocritical to profess to love freedom and liberty, but to mean only for those who think just the same as you do.
      These are the trademarks of the neo-cons (who have hijacked the label “conservative” from the true conservatives typified by the late Sen. Bob Taft). Please research the history of the neo-conservatives. They began as leftist Trotskyites. The are statists. They are hypocrites.

    WOW. Just wow! In the 3 decades I have walked this earth (which means no I don’t know it all) I have see our Constitution, that set of ideals that I swore to defend, attacked equally from both sides of the aisle. I’m not just talking about the Republicans and Democrats here (we should all know that they are both worthless) but Liberals and Conservatives to. It blows my mind.

    You are not a patriot if you lie to yourself about the history of this great nation. When ppl say that the the founding fathers were slaveholders, truth is a lot of them were. It doesn’t help the matter to have Bachman say the the Founding fathers worked to end slavery, because it never happened. They had other crap to worry about. In our 236 yrs of existence, we have done some terrible things. I mean things that Hitler himself didn’t order. But we have also done some wonderful things (more than the terrible). We need to STOP changing history around to make us look better. We are GREAT because of our failures. We learn from them, we grow, we adapt. That is our strength.

    What I think has been lost in recent years is our belief that Americans want whats best for America. Now Republicans this Dems are actively trying to destroy this country and vice versa. This must stop. We are Americans all having a different POV. It make us GREAT. This mindset needs to be stopped. If you are reading this and truly feel this way then I have just one thing to say to you. GET THE HELL OUT OF AMERICA! TT

    From what I have seen, neither the democrats nor the republicans are willing to stand by the constitution whenever it stands in their way of growing government the way they want to grow it. Their fight amongst themselves is that democrats want to grow government by socialism, and republicans want to grow government by handing money to banks and military contractors.

    But they all want to tax the crap out of us and wield their political power, which is sourced in their authority to dole out OUR tax money.

    In the end, there is no difference, and in the end, it is why this country is divided – because we all refuse, REFUSE, to adhere to the constitution.

    Romney can’t do it, and no better Obama. They are both abominations to the constitution.

    The Tea Party defines itself by its desire for smaller, Constitutional government and limited spending.

      The number one reason why Conservative Americans reject Ron Paul as a candidate is as follows:

      He is whiny, sniveling, and unelectable because he can’t verbalize his positions without whining and squinting and spewing nutty-as-hell ideas off the top of his addled head.

    Simply put, the Democrats, as presently constituted, want to destroy our constitution and the country that our forefathers gave us. While we have had many problems that have been faced and corrected over our 236 years. This is the first time that we have allowed people to gain power in our structure that have a goal to subvert our way of life. The Democratic party of my father’s era would have been the first to throw the “present day Democrats” in jail for treason. This is a provable crime that is being committed on a daily scale! If the people who love this country do not take this country away from them this November, we have lost the ability to do this peacefully. It will then have to be “by force of arms!” This is why they are trying to get rid of the Second Amendment. We will end up with “The Second American Revolution” remember this and get everyone that you know out to vote!

    Mark Levine defending the Constitution? How about our government giving money to foreign nations? How about the Patriot act? How about the NDAA? How about the endless undeclared wars? How about gun control laws?

    All of these talk show hosts love to say they are for the Constitution but they always support people who go against it. I blame Hannity, Rush, Beck, and Levin just as much as I blame Fox for us being stuck with Romney.

      I strongly support Ron Paul. And it is sad that there is not much hope for Paul. The questioning is good: “If you support the constitution why do you throw Paul on the back burner?” (the question was a good one months ago, the reality check does have to come into play now though)

      We could have had a great movement, even a strong write in campaign, but it is not totally the fault of these talk show hosts, it is the fault of the Paul supporters themselves. WE blew it by being angry, non budging, and most of all casting an image on Paul that he did not deserve. We proudly positioned ourselves (not me, and many other sane Paul supporters) as a bunch of people who just wanted drugs to be legalized. I agree that it should be, but legalizing drugs will not save the world that we created for ourselves. So we can blame it on ourselves for not being taken seriously.

      I was at universal studios a few months ago, and seen someone (Ron Paul supporter) with a shirt that said “sex, drugs, and Ron Paul” I wanted to punch the dude in the face…..Yes you should have the freedom to make those choices (on the shirt), but we built up an image of Ron Paul, that was not about liberty, but about being a bunch of immature dopey kids…..WE messed it up more than others did.

      What major nation changing polices has Romney proposed that are different from the polices of Obama. I dont want to hear, who ate a dog, who was raised in what church, or is or isnt a communist. I want to hear real policy changes. Ron Paul‘s polices were very clear and a vast contrast to Obama’s. Romney has the same polices as Obama.

      No doubt our ‘conservative’ talk show Radio Hosts—Levin being foremost among them, clings to this philosophy, which is anthema to true ‘liberals’, and the essential philosophy of Republicans at least prior to WW2, advocating anti-constitutionl policies that you have listed.

    Uh Dora Levin is a constitutional attorney so I would watch what you say before you even try to take this guy on. He would tear you apart on what the country stands for. He knows exactly what the left wants. CONTROL! And the left IS the polor opposite of the Tea Party. Does the left want fiscal responsibility, free market solutions and limited govt like the founders? That is exactly what the TEA party is founded on part one. Part two is that Tea party wants to take on RINO’s that have crossed the aisle and forgot their principles.       Dora, wrong on all counts. Levin is a constitutional attorney, an author and a talk show host. You, however, do not seem to deem those attributes as qualifiers to being bright. What are your qualifications? Perhaps community organizers are more impressive. Levin also states what the left wants with clarity, “The purpose of our constitution is not to grow a centralized, all-powerful, concentrated Federal government,” It may be too nuanced for you, but he is stating the left wants an all powerful centralized government. As for your comment of leftist being individuals, by definition the statist, communist or socialist freely give up their individuality for the sake of the greater good….”you didn’t build that”….remember, there is NO ROOM for the individual on the left. This philosophy runs counter to liberty, freedom and smaller government which are all tenets of the TEA Party, TEA stands for taxed enough already…so you are wrong on all counts. Perhaps you can apply some logic and reason to your next post with factual examples.

      Dora, may I suggest that for one month you listen to Levin’s radio show? All his shows are available online for free at MarkLevinShow.com. The live feed of his show has some dead air during commercials so instead you may want to listen to the podcast that’s available a couple of hours after the radio show ends (nearly all the commercials and dead air are edited out). Also, if you really get the impression that Levin isn’t “especially bright”, try reading “Ameritopia” or “Liberty and Tyranny”. I consider Ameritopia to be a tour de force achievement by one of the America’s top advocates for conservativism.
