‘Slight Nudge’ Triggers Major Brawl at Minor League Game

A melee caused by what appears to be a slight nudge at a recent Spokane, WA, game makes you wonder if you should change the dial to a little more minor league baseball rather than waiting for the Yankee captain to finally get hit 3,000.

KREM-TV:

“It took 15 minutes before order was restored and the game started back up again.

Vancouver’s Shane Opitz and Berti were ejected. while Odor and pitcher Matt West were booted for Spokane. West actually dropped a Vancouver player with a punch when it seemed like things were settling down.

Suspensions are likely to come for the players who were ejected. It’s possible the league could hand out more suspensions once they see video from the brawl.”

If only cameras had caught the sucker punch. While not as common as in ice hockey or as riot ensuing as in international soccer, baseball has it’s fair share of epic moments when sportsmanship took a back seat to fisticuffs. The Spokane Indians are a minor league affiliate of the Texas Rangers, lead by CEO and former 7-time no-hitter pitcher Nolan Ryan. Among Ryan’s many accomplishments in the major leagues include topping this list of the 10 most unbelievable baseball fights of all-time:

This is so great for little Joey to watch. When he asks what happened I just tell him, “This is what you do Joey when you are a PROFESSIONAL player and a mentor who gets paid millions and millions of dollars and you think that you’re second in line to God. If someone sins, you immediately make them pay HELLLL!”

All major sports are made up of overpaid thugs. This particular game was played by teams that are the training ground for these overpaid thugs. I am about tired of MLB, NFL, and especially pro-basketball.

The ESPN top ten baseball fights omitted Kyle Farnsworth absolutely destroying some Reds batter who had the misfortune to try and charge the mound after he objected to a pitch. Probably the best baseball fight ever…after having said that, I need to add that I really wish these things wouldn’t happen during events from my favorite sport – it just takes away from a great game, but I also think there is no way EVER to prevent this type of thing from happening…it’s just life.

I haven‘t watched the video and I don’t think I have to watch it to make a comment……hey gang, it’s just a game and quit reading into it and making a bunch of no brainer comments concerning society….blah, blah, blah……competitive juices get flowing and sometimes people act out their frustrations in unsavory ways…..I do have to say that the guy who threw the sucker punch should get the book thrown at him though. As for Nolan Ryan, well, just look at his overall record and how he conducts himself today. Remember, no matter what sport you are talking about….it is JUST A GAME.

As morals decline, so follows behavior.

Football and Basketball are especially out of control, yet our sick culture still blindly follows both of those sports. Apparently, fans don’t get the connection between the players of those sports and the culture they come from. Their lack of moral upbringing manifests itself in the trouble they get into after signing those big contracts. They can handle neither the money or the media attention. Pick up the sports section almost any day and read of yet another athlete who has gotten into trouble.
In case after case, bad behavior at midget, high school, then college level sports is tolerated. I know of a local public HS that allows kids who have police records to play sports. They wear gang- color bandanas under their football helmut. One in particular had an ankle bracelet from an arrest. Subsequently, he has been arrested for yet another incident which involved the shooting death of a gang member at a trailer park.
This public school also did nothing when my grandaughter went for help with harassment in the fall of 2010. That harassment continued all school year. Though she went to a guidance counsellor then a vice-principal in the fall of 2010, the incidents were never elevated to the principal. In the end, my GD was removed from class in May 2011 and did not attend her prom or graduation. It was clear that the school did not handle the situation correctly. They admitted it when we met with the principal.
This HS, in S Jersey, has a reputation for covering up incide

Sports don’t build character, they expose it.

Oh, and Steroids cause this type of behavior!

Reread that whole first sentence….makes you wonder “if you should changed the dial” to a little minor league baseball rather than waiting for the Yankee captain to “finally get hit 3,000″.

What I’ve come to expect from the Blaze, rather than excellent reporting, is typos and poor grammar.
